I have a silly question but don't feel it needs to be brought up in the open RA area ...
What is the point of Facebook? Does it really add anything more than what I would get either loggin in to SL or talking on this very thread? Someone sell me on the idea of Facebook because what I see is just a light version of Match.com so I must be missing the point somewhere.

I have never used Facebook. I do not know what Match.com might be. (other than thinking it is a dating website based on the name).

From: Seven Okelli Thanks - I just needed to hear someone say that. Sorry, Three - it *would* work, but I guess I'm used to calling her Six now. I'm really going to start on Monday, but I put up a preview so you can see what my blog looks like: http://seven.mothmade.com/. Good start, Seven. I'm hooked.

I have a FB account because a deaf group that I am president of, has a group page there. It's the only reason I'm there. I have no friends on my personal page there and have it locked down tight. I 'Ignore' all friend requests that come through. With all the other social venues I belong to, I have neither the time nor the inclination.......

From: Kylie Jaxxon Rhonda: Isn't it along the same lines as MySpace? Well, yeah, but then what the heck is the point MySpace? If I want to meet new friends or email random strangers, why not do it in SL? My spouse is hooked on Facebook. He sits there all evening long with Facebook up on his laptop. Even if he is playing WoW or something on his main computer. It doesn't bother me and I am glad he is making friends but .... I just don't get it. Maybe it is that between SL and these forums I have plenty of peole to chat with and would not have the time to chat on FaceySpaces anyway. But then again, in SL I look like this: So why would I ever go anywhere else?

From: Seven Okelli Yes, ironing in itself is fine. I like doing it. But Mom lets it pile up in a massive way and then tries to get it all done in one shot. To the extent that I forget that I have certain items of clothing. I still believe she has caches of un-ironed clothes somewhere in the house. I just pretty much refuse to iron. I have a couple of items that always need it and I just don't until I really really want to wear them. If my husband needs something ironed, he does it himself. My ex just took his work shirts to the cleaners, which was fine with me.

Geez, would you believe that they have blocked all of those sites -- classified as "annonymizers".

I know you won't believe this...but I have a FB account for the cartoon me. I think I mentioned "The Damsel Files" magazine I will be soon appearing in, part of being in that group is having a FB page for your Avatar, for publicity purposes. I understand FB is a tool like anything else and is dependant on how you use it, but holy crap, the signal to noise ratio on that place is astounding. It's just a bit too much for me, and a SL account is all I ever want. I don't get all the random friend requests from people you don't even know or have said one word too..it's worse than SL. And the amount of personal info that people put up there for all to see... And employers now want access to FB accounts.

A dryer sheet with a damp washcloth thrown into the dryer will "iron out" a lot of your wrinkled stuff.

From: Eli Schlegal Back from lunch. Here's the skinny.
They are going to close my branch. Probably within the next 8 weeks. They don't want to lay me off. They want me to move into sales. I will have to take a 15% pay cut but i will make commision on my sales so I can make a lot of that back. I will be working about 5 minutes from my house which will be real nice. I will be working for a guy that I used to work with as a peer. I think it will work out great. Technically it's a step down from management to sales but I am going to have a lot less stress and will only have to worry about myself. I'm not upset at all.
Thanks for the well wishes. Congrats, Eli and best wishes.

Someone sell me on the idea of Facebook because what I see is just a light version of Match.com so I must be missing the point somewhere. Rhonda, they are completely different. (EDIT: Pointing out Lexxi's comment about the Match/Facebook similarity/and or difference) Match is specifically for hooking up to meet someone to date (I met my ex-husband on Match). You look through peoples profiles, see if anyone looks interesting, email them, they look up your profile, and if interested, email you back. From there it gets taken off-line and you choose to meet or not (eventually, in theory). Facebook is more of a tool for keeping in touch with friends, family and business associates. Yes; it has an entertainment value to it as well (which Match does NOT have - there are no games there, no quizzes, no groups, etc. which Facebook does). Facebook can be used much like Twitter (which I prefer completely) to send quick notes to people to let them know what you are up to, where you're heading out to for instance. I use it as another gateway for networking, most certainly did not view at as a way to meet potential dates although I'm sure some people might use it that way. I can see how it *might* work that way, but frankly there are much better ways to accomplish that. Overall, for me it is a great way for me to keep my presence out there with good friends who have busy lives (and vice versa) that don't have the time to spend on long phone conversations for instance, but we want to let each other know we're alive and well, and keep each other in the loop about what's happening. And, Ghosty and I use that (and Twitter) to keep each other aware of what is going on with each other during the daytime when we are at work, and not able to necessarily get to a phone at a moment's notice but we can easily text a message, and peek at our cellphone to see a Tweet or Facebook update and respond accordingly. I do agree, however, that it can be somewhat addictive like other things, and is a lot of silly content attached to it, but you can ignore it (and, for that matter, perhaps should; a friend of ours had his bank account robbed of $1500 recently by one of the makers of those "games", Zynga, somehow and he doesn't even play the game!). Overall, a decent tool to stay in touch with people, useful but no - not necessary overall. Again, I prefer Twitter personally, but it's all about what you make of it anyway.

Three of my kids are on Facebook and one of them made me join. Then I connected with some of their friends and some of my friends who were there. I don't go there very often but when I do I see what folks are up to. If I ever get up to anything I might post about it there.

I have a Gmail question. Is it possible to create a seperate inbox for my blog linked to my account, and have blog related corrspondence sent there, or should I create an entirely seperate account?

If my husband needs something ironed, he does it himself. My ex just took his work shirts to the cleaners, which was fine with me. Sam here, Lil. My philosophy on ironing is don't buy anything that will ever need ironing and if I accidentally do I usually just wear it wrinkled. We do try to hang up my husband's dress shirts while they are still wrinkle-free from the drier. But it's pretty rare that either of us actually gets out the iron. I do most of the laundry here, every few days because that is one job I don't mind. I stress out over other things like dusting the books - which I have now put off for so long that in my mind it has become and utterly impossible task.

From: Brenda Connolly I have a Gmail question. Is it possible to create a seperate inbox for my blog linked to my account, and have blog related corrspondence sent there, or should I create an entirely seperate account? You can do either or both. It depends on what you want to do. Mainly, are you going to be sending emails as Brenda Connolly? If you are, you need a separate account in that name. Up to now, I used one gmail account for both my real name and for Seven, since the only Seven stuff that came was IMs when I'm not inworld. I set up a filter to stick the label "Seven" on that stuff and to move it out of the inbox, so that everything in the inbox is for the real-name me. I click on the Seven label (in the left column) when I want to deal with the Seven stuff. That effectively served as a separate inbox. (I also get the IM emails for my alt Moth there, and another filter takes that stuff out of the inbox and labels it "Moth".) Now that I'm going to be sending email AS Seven Okelli, I got a new, separate Gmail account in the name of Seven Okelli. Also, if you're using Firefox, you can use the Gmail Manager plugin to keep track of multiple gmail accounts. .

. No I use IE. OK....thanks. I looked at the filter set up. I have no idea what that's about...I'll just set up another account.

Thanks, Elora. I guess I will never grok the big draw then. I have email and a phone for RL, get SL message on my email and as a habit from my job, I live on email. If someone does not have my email or a way to get to it (like IM's in world) then it is a sure bet they do not need my email. But if my hubby uses the debit card on anything online without me knowing about it I will skin him alive.

The only think I used MySpace for, was the music section. They have the ability to have musician accounts, and some SL artists were on there. So I'd listen to their songs to see if I should hunt them down in SL. I'd listen when I couldn't get into SL.
