An Oscar Meyer Wienermobile crashed into the home and outdoor deck of Nick Krupp in Racine, Wis. on Friday morning, July 17, 2009. According to a witness, the vehicle was parked in the driveway. The driver lurched the vehicle forward instead of backing out of the driveway, hitting Krupp's deck and cracking the foundation of his house.

i will never understand the celebrity of american news readers.

If this is in reference to Cronkite - he was different. Nothing like today's news mannequins. He wasn't called the most trusted man in America for nothing. This was an era when the news was told with no bias or spin. It was just pure journalism. Yes, he and others of the time made commentaries, but they were clearly labeled as such, and his were highly influential. For the post WWII baby boom generation, he was the tour guide to all the wild changes in the world throughout the 60's and 70's.

And we were there.

/me sits back and waits for better comments about the suggestive nature of that pic and story than he can come up with at the moment.

Besides, they weren't just news readers. They were there, as it happened. On the battlefields, in the planes, on the ships, at the floods and earthquakes. They found their stories, investigated, them, wrote their copy, what is now done by a staff of people, they did all by themselves. That all changed when TV news started in becoming entertainment, leading up to the absolute garbage it is today.

Side note: As a kid in school, we watched recordings of "You Are There", with Cronkite. What a great show that was.

That seems to be the hardest thing about aging - so far. Almost everyone I grew up admiring is gone. New celebrities seem to come and go and I couldn't even tell you their names. And worse, friends start passing too.

My BP is coming down this morning finally. It has a way to go yet. I have to figure out a way to keep work from killing me. Can't just up and quit in this economy.

.

/me hugs KB guy - Weston life is grand :) aging is the price we pay for a life well lived- i hope when my time is up i will smile for no page left unturned. Regrets- sure but who cares- regret worse what you dont do. I have not lost a friend, it is not a pain i am familiar with- but it will come and i hope when it does i can smile and say they had a grand time.

Damn- too early for such depth- bring on the silies please someone :D

/me pets the puppy you and hugs kb guy one more time just cause i want to so there!

Yes, he was definitely part of a generation of reporters (REAL reporters) that I miss so much.

@Mari: You really make one want to think about becoming a kid again, if only for a little while. :)

@Treasure: Great house. It is something I could see me living in, and kudos to the builder.

@Rio: What can I say except.......We're going to the beach, buzz off..*Hands Eli her Home Depot Card*... Go out and buy yourself some power tools or a gas grill.

Goodness me - a pretty heavy mood in this thread lately, and in some other threads too. It must be something in the air. I've had a rough couple of weeks and just about abandoned SL and these forums temporarily. Thought I'd catch up a bit and found that several others are having rough times too. Hope everyone is feeling better soon.
.
Yesterday was a very rough day in lots of ways (work, home and SL). The SL side has been worked thru and is happiness again. And that makes dealing with the rest much easier.
:)

Today's vanity pics come from the vaults of yesterday, from 2007 to be exact. I have so few of them, in some ways I'm glad, but also sorry at the same time.

They may have been posted before, I'm not sure.

There are two thumbnails that aren't showing up, both on page 1

Kittens and Pups...and More Luscious Lashes.

I think I see it the way you do - on page one I see thumbnails for all but two (kittens and pups and more luscious lashes).

Sweet, innocent looking Brenda, wonder who she is thinking of tying up in those shots
