For those with custom shapes, have you used the avatar proportion guide posted elsewhere in this forum to check or modify your shape? If so, how did it go? Where you happy with the results? Funny you mention it - I read through it this week because I was working on a shape for a new avatar and it wasn't coming out right at all. So I worked out the proportions - eyeballing it, but using the guidelines. It really came out well, I think. I'll post a picture when I get to my own computer. . _____________________

Aw, thanks for asking -- I'm just really busy. But lurking like a...lurking lurker! I've been meaning to send out rez-day wishes, birthday wishes, comments on the lovely (and handsome) pics, and so forth, but I'm so far behind! It's going to be like this all month. ...and that reminds me I need to send Kaimi a message. ![]() _____________________

Wow, I got a little distracted and forgot my usual "Howdy folks!" I'd like to take a short break from the party planning to rant just a bit. First a brief intro. I have a son now 25 years old. He was born premature and as a result has had eye problems all his life. He lives on his own, has a job but no medical insurance. I was able to cover him under my insurance until he turned 25. Yesterday he had outpatient eye surgery. His doctor says it went fine and after a bit of recovery he should be back to normal (normal for him at least). So, praise Jebus on that one. Thankfully we live in Houston which has an excellent reputation for it's medical center and hospitals. Here's the part that bewilders me and pisses me off. The doctor gave us three choices for where to do the surgery. He stated that all three use the same equipment, have excellent staff, and that he had no reservations about any of the three. Hospital A wanted $11,000. Hospital B wanted $8,500. We went with hospital C, which is a well known major hospital. I was very happy with the care we received there. The bill from the hospital is $2,035. Just to make matters worse if an insurance company was paying for this they would have received a huge discount and only paid about $1,100. How did the US get to the point that medical care has become a bigger gamble than buying a used car? Thanks for letting me rant a bit, but PLEASE I don't want this to spark a debate on health care issues. Thanks. And now we return to our regularly schedule never ending thread. Have a nice day! I'm very glad to hear that you could afford the care your son needed and that all is well for you at least, for now at least. _____________________

Ah, but as I expressed at the time, it matters to me. I tower over people in RL. I selfishly want Mistress taller than me. ![]() This matters to me as well. I wonder if it is a submissive thing? For myself I know it partly is. I'm just slightly shorter then my Mistress and have adjusted my height everytime she adjusts her's. I tried the proportion kit but was not pleased with the results. Like many others, I felt too short. My AV is a mix of the RL things I like about myself and a few things I wish I could achieve in RL. I'm 5'4" in RL and have always considered myself average height until I moved in with Mistress and all her friends started calling me "short." Funny thing is I'm barefoot and they are wearing shoes when they say it. |

You know, I have never seen a gun in person. All I know about guns has come from fiction books that mention them, and me looking them up on google so I know wth the book is talking about lol. _____________________

I did, Love. I was very optimistic at first, but I found the results to be unsatisfactory (just IMO, of course). First I tried the demo "correct proportions" shape. I thought it looked very unflattering and the head was way too large. Then I tried modding my own shape. I enlarged my head bit by bit, finally ending up with a shape that was about 8.5 heads high (I started at around 10, eek!) I wore it for a few days, but eventually went back to my previous shape. I guess my eye has been permanently spoiled by all the tiny-headed avatars, including my own. In the end, I did enlarge my head a little...enough to have to re-edit most of my hair. But I'm still nowhere near the "artistic ideal". Nevertheless, I think I look MAHvelous. Like anything else, the proportions guide is a GUIDE...and beauty remains in the eye of the beholder. _____________________

The idea is to use the height of the head as the reference length, and adjust the body from that. To get an RL realistic shape. So I must have been too tall before, at least from that perspective. ![]() _____________________

*laughing* for the benefit of our international friends, let me out myself as an American who does *not* own a gun and has no desire to. There are a few of us, contrary to our global reputation as a nation of gun-toting citizenry. ![]() And yes, I have fired a gun before, and no, I didn't particularly enjoy the feeling of power it gave me. It's not a type of power I value for myself, or wish to experience again. And I'm kind of horrified by the number of people who think they are a good problem solvers. By which I am not referring to any one here. _____________________

I did not really get a feeling of power when I started shooting. For me it is mostly the plain simple fact that my constitution gives me the right to have guns so that my government cannot as easily repress me - and now that the government is trying harder to take them away, I decided it was time to own a few. _____________________

I seen too many people and children being shot in this city, shots fired every single night, sometimes several times a night.(Read the police log for my town,it will blow your mind..) Admittedly I live in a crappy city with high crime. But It doesn't really endure me to guns. When married,we use to own guns, but I never went near them.

There are a lot of folks who think Americans all own guns. I don't, and in my circle of acquaintances, very few do ... but I was surprised at the high proportion of households myself. 2004 survey on firearm ownership in the U.S., Harvard University:
38% of households and 26% of individuals reported owning at least one firearm. This corresponds to 42 million US households with firearms, and 57 million adult gun owners. 64% of gun owners or 16% of American adults reported owning at least one handgun. Long guns represent 60% of the privately held gun stock. Almost half (48%) of all individual gun owners reported owning >=4 firearms. Men more often reported firearm ownership, with 45% stating that they personally owned at least one firearm, compared with 11% for women. ![]() |

That is how HMO's work. If they are contracted with a certain hospital or Doctor, the bill will always be cheaper Tex. That is why HMO's require referrals from your PCP. When your doctor refers you out of his physician network or hospital, he is saying"That's okay we will approve funding of this, even if this doctor is not in our group." Which is why that will rarely happen unless the network does not have a certain specialist or machine. It's a pretty complicated system but it does make sense if you know the inner workings of HMO's. _____________________
