*laughing* for the benefit of our international friends, let me out myself as an American who does *not* own a gun and has no desire to. There are a few of us, contrary to our global reputation as a nation of gun-toting citizenry. ;)

And yes, I have fired a gun before, and no, I didn't particularly enjoy the feeling of power it gave me. It's not a type of power I value for myself, or wish to experience again.

I'm right with you there Madhu... :)

ETA: and I would venture that the non-gun owners outnumber the gun owners two-to-one. We're just quieter about it (basically slinking around in the corners hoping not to get caught in the cross-fire.. :p )

i am also tall in rl, and have no desire to be tall in sl. bri must be the taller of us, no negotiation!
From: Lexxi Gynoid
Ah, but as I expressed at the time, it matters to me. I tower over people in RL. I selfishly want Mistress taller than me. :( Now I must start again the search for shape.

Not sure if it is a two-to-one thing, but I am sure that the non-owners do outnumber the owners of guns. There are many that support the rights but do not own any guns -- like me up until about a year ago.

And thankfully, we have the choice, at least for now, to own or not to own a firearm. And that choice should never be taken away from us.

Lil, I SO want that AR15.

I believe that it is a law that you must own a gun in Texas.

At least that is the idea I get from reading SLU.

You will probably be scared at first, before you find out how much fun it is. Every woman I have taught to shoot has been amazed at the feeling of power in her hands and how exciting it is.

mmmmmmmmmmmm gunnnnnnnnsssszzzzzzzzz :D

Yep, that's it and I have a 22 that my husband got me to just practice aiming with. We each have AR15s and he has 2 pistols and a bolt-action rifle also. And he mumbles something about having over 10,000 rounds of ammo for everything.

the list is too long, and i don't know all of our guns to show you. well, their guns. i have one. they own the rest. most are rifles and various lengths of shotguns. =/

I did not really get a feeling of power when I started shooting. For me it is mostly the plain simple fact that my constitution gives me the right to have guns so that my government cannot as easily repress me - and now that the government is trying harder to take them away, I decided it was time to own a few.

i just like to be a sniper.

Re guns- as Lil mentioned, not everyone that is ok with guns and champions our right to have them actually has one. I do not own a gun. I have shot a few, it was just sort of like my non-existant fascination with cars. Husband however, is quite another thing. As a veteran he is quite the connoisseur.

In Florida - we have the castle law.

That is how HMO's work. If they are contracted with a certain hospital or Doctor, the bill will always be cheaper Tex. That is why HMO's require referrals from your PCP. When your doctor refers you out of his physician network or hospital, he is saying"That's okay we will approve funding of this, even if this doctor is not in our group." Which is why that will rarely happen unless the network does not have a certain specialist or machine. It's a pretty complicated system but it does make sense if you know the inner workings of HMO's.

Good explanation. I do understand how/why this works. However, to me it seems a bit like extortion. I make a decent salary, I'm willing to pay my own way, but if I don't pay for the insurance I get charged 3 or 4 times as much for the same service.

I'll be the first to admit I don't have the answer, but it sure seems that things need to change.

ETA: Thanks to everyone for all the kind comments. :) My son had a follow up visit at the doc today at noon. I just got word that everything looks good so far.

When your employer signs up with an HMO,they are paying a certain amount to the HMO to get you this"discount". The group you sign up under is also investing their funds in this HMO for having you as a patient. I can't remember the exact rate but the group also gets a certain amount per patient per year. The doctors are getting money from this HMO, the hospitals etc...It's all a bunch of math that makes my head hurt. But anyway, it comes out to "managed care". It's to keep costs down. Which as you see as uninsured, the costs are ridiculous for hospitals. HMO and other plans make it more manageable as stupid as they may seem. Anyway if anyone is doing extortion, it's the Hospitals. Not the insurance companies or physician groups. If that made any sense at all..I'm tipsy.:/

Awesome news about your son:)

I want this one. Can't find it anywhere though. The only Dame Vaako dress I can find is a complete avvie and it has the 'battle dress'. The black one she wears at the end.

I can see me having to attempt it myself and fail miserably lol.

/me returns from the pub, replete with a good meal and a not inconsiderable amount of booze. (I would have stayed later and got drunker, but I have to be up for work at 4am tomorrow.)

There is nothing to match getting a lift home on a warm summer evening, in one of these with the top dropped:
