Even saying all that, the idea of wandering New York is slightly frightening.

FYI, a statistics report was just released last week if I'm correct and NYC's crime rate has dropped dramatically this past year (has been steadily for many years). The subway system actually went down 100% in crime. 100%! It's actually a very safe city to walk around in, and it's reputation sadly suffers from people remembering it from 30 years ago and more. Certainly in the area you'd be staying in, you would have nothing to worry about. It is bustling well into the late evening hours because of the theater/restaurant foot traffic.

Heh, it is walking around a strange city, not the crime issue. I was told London at night is worse, crime wise, than New York. And I wandered around London at night. All over. And it was around the time that they thought the IRA might start up again, or stop completely.

But then, that involved walking. Not train, not taxi, but walking. Which is why I was looking for walking distance in New York. My knee is acting up, so my walking distance is lower than it was in London. I routinely walked from Soho, theatre district up to the train station, not the tube, but the train, to head between cities. Oh, and I also walked all over Ely. And I wandered near a full football stadium as it was filling up. And none of them even looked like hooligans! I was disappointed.

I had a month to wander around and adjust to the idea of London. I was looking at 2 days for New York. So I was going to try to limit myself to a certain sector.

I'm rambling as I can't seem to find a point, sorry.

*yawns* morning threadfolk. Hope everyone had a good weekend. I'm wiped out even though mine was pretty lazy. Hope to see everyone at the cafe tonight - continuing the next phase of the blue girl's retirement, Carter will be the host and the DJ.

I've gone whitewater rafting on the Shenandoah, and I went to college in Shenandoah valley. Great area :)

I was looking for some way to see some good plays. Kennedy center will have some later in the year, including some rather famous actors. But that is later in the year. You can see good plays in Washington DC (I saw 12 Angry Men, or whatever that one was called, here, with George Wendt, and Noel Cowards . . .um . .well, a play by him, and that red-headed comedian whose name I can't recall now, also saw Bob Newheart, and had tickets to see Jerry Seinfeld, but was ill that day :(). The entertainment here, though, is hit or miss. Very scattered.

You can't find a bad place in Downtown. There are lots of nice hotels in the Times Square area, and price is a good indicator of quality. Marriotts and Hiltons are excellent. It's very easy to get around the City but be careful. Good luck.

I had this error too, disconcerting is not the word! The other error I've been getting is the one where the AV disappears, leaving the clothing, hair, and UGH! eyeballs... completely gross looking. I'm thinking it's only happened with the Snowglobe viewer.
This particular issue of mine -- head, but no body -- is not limited to the Snow Globe viewer. To save resources, I had logged the alt on with an old Nicholaz viewer and the 'head only' was showing on that viewer as well as the Snow Globe that I was logged on with.

"the AV disappears, leaving the clothing, hair, and UGH! eyeballs... " sounds really really creepy looking.

Well in that case, NYC is very easy on a person. That area you would be in, the theater district, is flat and all numbered streets on a grid system. Easy to navigate, difficult to get lost in *laughs* I have knee problems too, so I empathize with what you're going through. Lots of restaurants close by too, so you wouldn't have to leave the neighborhood to get a meal (of all price ranges).

I've always found this city rather difficult to really lose your bearings in, especially if you stick to the midtown area. Downtown is a whole other story (Greenwich Village, Tribeca, Financial District). My job is in the Financial District and has named streets that wind this way and that, it always confuses me. I used to live close by in a sort of enclave of the area (Battery Park City) never quite got the hang of it down there.

Lexxi, did you look at The Pennsylvania? I stay there sometimes on little "getaways". It's right across the street from Penn Station and Macy's and would be a quick cab ride or one stop on the subway, from the Theatre District.

I had posted a thread about this called Age Verification in the time of Mature or something like that- any way- like i sd there i had over heard a conversation- it later turned out the guy went off to verify and when he returned he could see her. So for them anyway that was issue- now as far as Hera and I with Damien- that was quite odd - and had never happened before so it has to be an issue with Damien's side- iguess we can check it next time i can get back in world with him- but as either me or Hera, he could not see me other than grey. Come to think of it now- during the home tours (same day but earlier) Steely took pictures of me- Amara and all u could see was my face and head, my body was there but I was all grey- of course I was fully dressed at the time touring around so its not an age thing there. I think it's just the fun and excitement of our 'Predictable Experience'

Not complaining here, just reporting - I got into the Hair Fair over the weekend. I saw some hair in one of the blogs that I wanted to try but didn't manage to find it.

There were only four people on the sim with me but we were in a river of lag. I could tell from the way they were walking that they were in the same molasses as me.

Even so, I managed to see a couple of booths, got some idea of the general theme.

I usually don't suffer from lag much so I was surprised. Maybe there was a big influx of frell. Maybe LL needed to divert energy from secondary systems, reverse polarity, or recalibrate the harmonics, I don't know.

It's too bad. Just have to be patient. Maybe I'll get another crack at it.

I tried the Hair Fair a couple of times this weekend -- late at night, early morning, mid day -- and it was always laggy no matter who was or was not around. I decided that I have enough hair for now - I am not going to try to go back.
