OMG Help!

An old friend of mine talked me into signing up for My Face, or Space Book, or some such to keep in touch with her so she could let others know I'm okay, still alive and well, etc.

My email today had like a page full of friend requests, people I haven't seen in years! Most very dear to me, but. . .

I'm really very reclusive and now I'm overwhelmed. Is it too late to back out? I guess I don't have to post anything there except semi-occasionally.

Still, that was frightening!

I appreciate any advice if you have experience with this.

Weston - I'm on Facebook and was hesitant at first. I can give you both sides of the coin on it.

First, you can post as much or as little as you care too. Nobody judges you on the quantity of what you write there. Some of my friends barely post, others are very prolific. I fall somewhere inbetween; having some days where I post a lot and then can go several days where not much is said.

As for friend requests; pick and choice as you see fit. I've declined some and had some decline me. No big deal. I think that most people if they are normal will respect your need for privacy when you don't answer the friendship request. I too, find it overwhelming when I see names of people I went to high school with pop up for instance. I have NO desire to be in touch with these people; I use Facebook strictly for my SL friends and a few people that I truly do care about or have gotten to know through other people that matter to me. I do not even use my real name there, because I don't want to be found easily. I am, Elora there like here.

If you decide not to keep up with it, all you have to do is put it on hold, or deactivate it. Again, no big deal and no explanations necessary. Ghosty recently put his on "hold" as he was finding it to overwhelming with all the other social networking he does (and he is a master at these things).

I actually found that I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. Recently, a good friend of mine in Australia found out I was there, and this is SO much easier than a few emails every few months when we suddenly remember that we're alive :)

I also ran into Ghosty in world. But he ignored me :(

(he ignored me even after I took his silence as acceptance and started shaving him. Shaping his fur into images of kitties. Then started painting his hooves pink and orange.)

That was very informative. I haven't used it but am glad to have more information on how it works. Thanks!

Thanks for the reassuring post. It might do me some good to get back in touch with these people. You can't really go back to the old gang and expect it to be like it was, but they were a big part of my life. Besides - they were used to my long silences even back in the day.

It's good to know you can turn the thing off. I don't want to become a part of the Hive Mind just yet.

Poor puppy! I am on Facebook, ONLY because I am president of a deaf club that has a Facebook group also. I don't have any friends there (my choice). People finally stopped trying to friend me, because I ignore all of them. (that's your only choice, accept or ignore). It also has a SL connection, for your SL avatar name, etc. I don't use that either. I have the whole thing locked down. lol. You can choose what people see, how much they see, and who gets to see what, about your personal business. Just your friends or their friends too, . you get to choose. It might be good for your quest to become more social. It was good to see you inworld at the Cartel party. Good luck!

I'll rustle up a Welsh breakfast while we are waiting for mo - she's probably making breakfast for the emergency services.

Pink grapefruit juice for a change.

and strong coffee - grab your own

Pep (Not worried - Mo is indestructible!)

I thought some of those dances between you and Iz lately were just a tad too close.

How does Eli feel about this?
:p

:D

I have no problem with it. Iz, might though... when she finds out how much she has to pay in child support. :p
