well perhaps blue should be reminded that strife and millie continue to step in when needed despite the lindens washing their hands of everyone long ago. i reckon they have shown an unreal commitment, a commitment i know for certain no linden has or will possess. i think on the new forum strife and millie should retain the ability to step in when needed, independent of some 3rd party moderating team.

Cybin as well.

Rio, you don't need to return to the same DSN kiosk that you originally signed up at. You can visit any of them to subscribe/unsubscribe. There's a list here:

Thanks, Skell. I was just wondering the same thing myself. :)

I believe that Lil and Oryx did. If they really do outsource the moderation, I see no reason why not. The only reason why NOT to have a general area would be if LL moderates it themselves; then it might take too much time. However, Blue has expressed to me his own surprise at how well the current forums do, basically unmoderated. Nearly all of the umpty-million residents are here for fun, so all communication vehicles that LL uses should allow for fun in some way. Note, for example, what they permit on the new blog discussion threads in the way of pictures and HTML. Really ferret-licious threads. I've looked at 5 boards now that use Jive software - not one of them permits all that in their postings. They simply configure the software not to show the options of images, bolding, indentation, etc.
.

Hopefully. When I talked to Blue, I stressed how important a social area in the forum is to the community, it's a deal breaker for me, and the Lindens should be more a part of the community, both inworld and here. He seems to agree, a dd admit that they do need to get out more.

I am still a bit dubious , even with good intentions, LL has shown to be totally inept at communications, so while people such as Blue and Torley may get it, I wonder if collectively they do as a company.

Now you have just made people curious - and that is mankind's strongest instinct, did you know that?

Did anybody go to Blue's office Hour yesterday?

I did Brenda. It seemed to me that he quoted you a couple times. Like not directly, but he said things like "Some residents have told me they want... xyz" and xyz would pretty much be exactly something that you had said you talked to him about. My feeling is that you made a very good impression on him and he took what you said to heart.

Hmm I'd have to go with sex.:o Though I'm pretty curious as well.Maybe a tie. Mothering is not one of mankind's strongest instincts. Unfortunately. Hunger is a necessity,no?

We spoke for 2 hours, and he was very receptive and sympathetic. I wanted to send a transcript of our convo out before the meeting, but didn't have time. I going to do it right now through the Group.

No...it's fear.

Fear will keep them in line. Fear of this battle station!

eep....sorry, I went all Empire for a second there. I'm better now.

But my vote for strongest instinct is fear. :)

Fear.
Fear and suprise,
Fear, suprise, and a ruthless efficiency.
There are THREE main weapons.
Fear, surprise, a ruthless efficiency, and an almost fanatical devotion to the pope.
Aaaaaaaaaargh.

Without curiosity no-one would ever have found out about sex.

i would say this is true for most large corporations.

This is true, but LL's need to communicate with it's customers is a bit different than a lot of consumer product companies. Most simply make the product, sell it, and the consumer uses it. The maker may have to provide some support and service, but for the most part it ends with the purchase.

In SL's case, the customers ARE the product in that they are essential to it's growth and development. Not having clear channels of communication is just bad for the business as a whole.

while i don't disagree, i do think you are banging your head against a wall. because like most corporations, (right or wrong) we are just a means to an income for them. as you say, they don't get it.

(edit: which is why i felt forced to take it upon myself to create an alternative communication location in case this 'type' of place goes south)
