i lost interest when DW #17 retired. as a replacement, i do like Tony Stewart also.

He's got a new car and owns his team now, too.

NASCAR... hmmm...

Now I know that stopping a bunch of hillbillies from getting their jollies racing around in circles won't solve this problem, but do you ever wonder about supporting a sport that doesn't base itself entirely on consuming petroleum products and spewing their byproducts into our atmosphere?

Jus' askin'.

Very valid point!

My only response is, we all have our vices. :)

No.

Good luck to the grandkids Brenda.

Make sure you get rid of that beachfront property.

it would have been 11PM or so. Too late to restart.

Good point, which brings me to one of my pet peeves. Television corrputting the natural order to suit their own prime time needs. If the race had started at a proper time it would have been completed before the rain arrived.

Another example is the Super Bowl. IMHO the game should be played in the afternoon. Starting so late in the day, again to suit the needs of the TV network, is ridiculous.

Agreed. The almost 2 hours a pre race hoopla was nauseating.

And TV has totally destroyed baseball and the post season games for the same reasons. It's a disgrace that a baseball game is starting at almost 9PM and going beyond midnight.

BTW, I own neither grandkids, nor beachfront property.

The weather was so bad at Stage 1 of the fourth Amgen Tour of California that the tv coverage didn't include pictures for much of the race. The course was 108miles (173km) from Davis to Santa Rosa with several moderate climbs.

Shortly after the departure in Davis, yesterday's Prologue winner Fabian Cancellara retired from the race suffering from a bout of fever.

Spaniard Francisco Mancebo of USA team Rock Racing attacked just 8 miles into the stage. And he stayed away all day. Two riders joined him for awhile but then he rode away from them. Two more riders bridged the gap to join him near the end but he was able to pull away from them to win the stage and take the overall lead. Quite a remarkable feat.

DW you mean? I was also referring to Tony Stewart. He is his own owner as well now.

Interesting juxtaposition... the news today, and the adulation over a sport that is based upon the cause.

I used to think we were smarter.

Don't think that anymore.

NASCAR... hmmm...

Just curious, in the news today there was a story that "The pace of global warming is likely to be much faster than recent predictions, because industrial greenhouse gas emissions have increased more quickly than expected and higher temperatures are triggering self-reinforcing feedback mechanisms in global ecosystems, scientists said Saturday."

That's what I love most about this sport! I was barely aware of Mancebo before today but when I saw him cross the finish line after staying in front of everyone else for over a hundred miles, against all odds I knew he deserved to be as happy as he was and I was happy for him. I love that part. Lol they must all be glad when each days ride is over, especially a day like today, but the happiness of finishing first is a whole nother thing!

Yes and yes. Both Tony and his teamate Ryan Newman were driving backup cars, as they both wrecked in time trials. The cars run about $200K each.

i guess he was reporting (i heard them saying) that his backup car was running better than his main, so it worked out for the best.

Since you are new to our neverending thread, I thought I would point out that we prefer to leave the drama and crap out in the other threads.

Sorry. I didn't see those rules posted.

That's the problem with skimming. I always miss the important stuff.

If you change the "you" in that statement into "we" ("we" meaning modern society) then that becomes a very profound statement.

I have a fairly long list of things that I think are a disgrace. I'm always willing and find it very interesting to discuss and compare them with others.

However, as it has been mentioned, this thread is most likely not the place to do that.

Yeah, that might be why many forums suggest monitoring a site or thread for a while to get the feel of it before jumping in.

But we get over things easily here too.

Well I reread the Official Second Life Guide to Forum Etiquette and indeed you are correct!

Rule Number 8 (luckily I didn't have to read very far) plainly states that ANY utterly trivial, insignificant and self-absorbed subject matter MUST be dissected and examined in length, but that a subject that has actual impact on reality or borders on the (shudder) serious or thought-provoking shall be deemed "DRAMA" and banished.

So really, my bad. Won't happen again.

Say, anybody see the bouncing sl boobs on youtube? I can't WAIT till my partner gets a pair of those!

WOOT! WOOT!
