@ Mo- IT is one guy- my boss - and he farms out what the cant fix. His solution ot my plight yesterday was to lend me OS discs, wish me luck and tell me to work on it on my own time. Well- i thank him for the OS discs since Dell didnt see m to think it was important I had them.

I did get help on the phone from a friend who I thought had helped solve the mystery- yay! But soon it became apparent it was not really a fix and it all went to hell again. Right now i am responding from lappy but it is very iffy and i am sure it will die again. I am making sure i get off of it anything i cant bear to lose cause i feel there is a total wipe coming. Which I don't mind so much as long as it will return it to its previous glory... I hope

I am also searching here yet again for the link to download the other Open Life viewer- in hope it is less taxing on my system and i can put it on pc where the vid card so sux! God I need a resident pet comp guru!!!

If you guys already up can help me find it- i think Lil may have posted it - it started with a K - it shd not be too many pages back but i cant find it!

Unfortunately with the screen going dim, doing a wipe and reinstalling the os isn't going to help. It isn't caused by a virus or software problem, it's hardware. Sounds like an FL inverter board, which supplies power to the backlight bulb(CCFL tube) or the CCFL tube itself. Unfortunately, since I am already the bearer of bad news anyways, FL Inverters are not cheap.

For people not comfortable troubleshooting/working on thier computers, I would recommend asking around and finding a good reputable, computer repair shop/parts supplier in your area. It's a bit like finding a good mechanic, but they are both worth their weight in gold.

In a nut shell, someone found out that SL gor can be harsh, she named names, and blamed LL and the population as a whole for her ordeal. Lots of vulgarities and explicit discriptions. All this done to the tune of an angry rant with several paragraphs.

Thank you Damien- yes that was the one- I am going to try it tonight on PC but I am sure I need to bite the bullet and get that Vid card installed there- I know i seated it correctly but i need help letting the comp know to look for it- any of you comp gurus gonna be in town soon? No? Oh well- CompUSA here I come... eventually- first though- lappy needs CPR... when i plugged it back into the wall it was no longer dim.. so it may be a battery problem argh- when it rains it pours! In any case it definitely needs professional help Big money I am sure... I better get busy and make lots of nice sales! hah! As if- I can't even get in comfortably enough to upload new stuff

I actually tread very carefully across the street. I participate only in the SL discussion forum, and try to keep strictly factual. I've never been able to figure out what triggers the storms of negativity the place generates ... popular people over there are worshipped, others get simply stomped on. I try now to avoid contradicting anyone there, and am very careful not to appear to think I know more than the regulars about anything.

Edited to add: It is very very easy for me to become enraged over there. And react badly. For the most part that is because I use IE at work (can't use anything but Firefox and IE at work, and Firefox doesn't have the flash thing downloaded at work, so I can't play games with Firefox). And IE freezes for five minutes when I am over there. Constantly. And it causes problems for my whole computer when it does it. And it drives me insane. Like just now tried looking over there and kept freezing. I feel like chasing down and killing and eating some mice, just clean bitting off their heads. And without playing with them first!

I couldn't agree more. The funny thing is that they will deny such behaviour exists to their dying breath, and then proceed to stomp on you for even thinking it. Anyway, I resolved it all by simply leaving. The few people I do want to remain acquaintances with can be found here or on ToT.
