How cool to have critters so close by! We had a family of possum under our deck once- but that's about it except for ducks and the occasional egret wandering by.

/me waves back at Allie- yup - just rainy stuff so far :)
When I was a kid all the time we used to have large flocks of egrets flying past our house between Mission Bay and San Diego Harbor. Now we occasionally see one or two individuals. It's sad.

When I've finished bestowing an entire summer's rainfall on Stockholm this week.

My rain-making knows no bounds. I managed to provoke the heaviest deluge Dusseldorf has ever seen when I flew in last week.
Yeah we need you here. The only way I can make it rain is by going to a drive-in movie. That actually is quite reliable for me but we don't have them here any more.

Unlike 3Ring, I'm too old to find this kind of thing funny. I did laugh quite a bit when I watched it though. And I love Cagney and Lacey.

I'm hoping all our Florida friends stay safe and dry. We had Edouard heading towards Houston a week or so ago. That turned out to be a non-event. It never gathered much strength and turned north just before reaching us.

Watching the local news coverage was something though, I wasn't sure if I should laugh, be embaressed or feel sorry for them. They were all prepared for the second coming and not much happened.

A recap of the coverage went something like this;
A plywood sign blew over in Dickenson.
Some patio furniture got tossed around in Kemah.
Two inches of water in the streetes in Pasadena.
When one reporter annouced that after two hours of standing in the rain she was so drenched she had to change clothes.......well....I almost lost it.

Obviously these storms are no laughing matter, but the local news sure is.

Sad, isn't it... When there is no news, they have to manufacture it to keep us all watching.

Even though I lived in Kansas for eight years the very worst weather I've ever experienced was in Houston. The sound was deafening and all we could see out the windows (which we were staying well clear of) was flying leaves and water. Then visibility got a bit better and we saw about 100 feet of the neighbor's fence come down. When things got a bit calmer my then ten year old son waded out into the street and was in water almost up to his waist. It was very exciting, but not quite a hurricane I guess. I can only imagine what that is like.

I wish ours did that but no- they have to frantically run about as if it was some desperate thing- this is Florida- no big shakes... the idiots that really do leave it to the last minute deserve to be stuck eating inedible canned goods- I mean hell, it's a hurricane not an earthquake- you know at least a week ahead of time to get ready.:rolleyes:

So yeah- our news peeps have to get out there and get slightly moist and pretend the world is coming to an end.. oy...
