How does one get there to take a peek? I would love to say I had actually been there - just once. I have the corn from there but it is not the same.

It was a force teleport by Blue. I have no idea what that means.

That sounds like it was an authentic punishment. Done for that realism effect no doubt, drat I would have hoped they had opened as a museum build or something. Maybe I should IM Blue and ask about it.

Those are great pictures though Mari, you lucky girl :)

I think it involves duct tape.

Duct tape is good. I have had interesting in-world uses for duct tape. ;)

It requires a Linden to force teleport you there (or, persumably, being a Linden to directly TP there). It is now a private, closed estate. I s'pect you could beg a Linden to send you there, but I also know that it's really only the Lindens who've been around who even know what it is. They no longer send troublemakers there, nor have they for a very long time.

From what Blue said, it was at once time its own grid of sorts, much like how the teen grid works. This was how it would "cut you off" from main grid communication. It no longer works like that.

It was cool to visit an stuff, even into our second hour of playing with our gesture collections. ;-)

Oh, an Force Teleporting is being discussed elsewhere on the forums right now. It is a Linden "power" where they can teleport you without a blue box acceptance (you just go). It also allows them to pull you into places you would not otherwise be allowed into (like group only parcels and stuff). Yesterday was the second time I've been Force Teleported, an for more fun reasons all around.

Thanks for the explanation Mari, some of it I was aware of and some of it was new to me. Maybe I will bug Blue when I have some spare time (yeah right) and try to get sent there lol :)

Very, very cool. Linden penal colony or not SL needs more really way out places like this that give it that air of myth and mystery.

How about...

LindenWorld Lobby (and LindenWorld 1 through LindenWorld 4)

The other grids beyone Agni and Aditi

The private estates where those login screen photos were done

Some of those interesting private islands near Crash Me

I'm sure there are others, but these are the ones that came to mind.

I have heard of LindenWorld but I had no idea there was anything left from it. Can people get there? I never saw LindenWorld obviously and would like look at the remnants.

Not sure what you mean about other grid beyond Agni and Aditi, presumably you are talking about LL grids and not OpenSim grids? I was not aware of any grids other the live grid, beta grid and occasionally some preview grids that have been in use.
Do tell more please.

Again if you have links to the login screen estates I would love to go see. This is very tantalising to me lol

Again I have never heard of CrashMe nor the interesting places near it that you allude to. I will definitely be going to check those out.

Thanks Mari, as always you are a veritable font of historical knowledge :)

in fact, there's two! the owner was asking me to point any land needing friends his way lol.

But of course, if you'd rather not pay rent, I'm sure I can set you up a little stalking hut...kinda like those things twitchers sit in all day.

i take care of my stalkers :)

Well, LindenWorld the amusement park is history. Luna has been reused and now houses the Luna Oaks mall. The other (Coney? I dun recall the name off hand) is long gone. There's signage from it in the basement of the GOvernor's mansion.

LindenWorld was also the old name of Seocnd Life before "Second Life." Here's a video of that:: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uK3x3FNlleU

The current sims named LindenWorld is a private group of places used by Lindens to have private meetings, including meetings with residents. I was there a while back for a fateful meeting about SL5B.

If you have the brid pull down menu enabled on your login screen (I dun recall the keyboard thing to do it), you'll see the name of all of the other grids. They're LL grids, I assume for testing purposes. Maybe someone else can illuminate both of us!

Pop open the man an take a look. I believe that FirstLook Island is near there too. It shoudl still be publically accessible, or was last time I was there.

...which gets me in no small amount of trouble from people assuming I'm FIC or someting. ;-)

That's awesome, thanks for the replies and info.
I don't think of you as FIC at all, but people with a big interest in history and who have been around for a while are almost certainly going to soak up a wealth of knowledge over time about cool stuff and places.
We need more peeps like that, I expect there is an SL historical group and I am probably not aware of it but if there isn't there needs to be :) VV

Ya, I'm a history nut in both worlds. :-)

I know there is at least one resident run historical space inworld, as well as the linden controlled basement history space in the Governor's Mansion.

:) I love history too but must admit I lean towards to stranger parts of it mostly. I find it fascinating too that myths and mysteries spring up in a place like SL as well as RL. Time seems very much accelerated too here and so it does not take as long for something to fade into myth and beyond the memory of all but a relative few.

Morning Threadies. :)

Haven't finished my coffee yet, so I'm not up for kicking butt and taking names, Amara.

Here's a bit of trivia for you: Records being released to the public from the National Archives indicate that Julia Child (among many others) was a spy for the OSS (precursor to the CIA).

Can you imagine? Julia, the chicken, and a wickedly sharp knife.... looming over the hapless interrogee...

OMG I heard that today also and was flabbergasted. I think I'm going to the International Spy Museum in DC on Saturday and it suddenly occured to me whether there is a special room for her. Maybe a secret kitchen set off someplace where you can interrogate chickens under a blinding light, and then maybe flambe them ;)

I've searched the Thread, I've searched SLexchange... I will have to rely on someone with a better memory or better shopping skills. A few days ago, I think, someone posted a link to sexy coveralls (the bib overall type.) I really liked them, but didn't note the link at the time, and now, of course, can't find them. :(

Does anyone remember the product?

Thanks so much.
