You notice how I'm missing from Brenda's picture she posted?

Someone has to wear red :(

Now see...Lexxi reminds me of the episode, "Mirror, Mirror" when there was the alternate universe and Lt. Uhura wore one of these little numbers. Very nice indeed!

It has been a really horrible period here of unwarranted attacks and massive insanity... be afraid -- be very afraid...
The massive insanity is a requirement for this place.

*Begins personal rant*

The innocence and sportsmanship of the Olympics have been long gone...since Berlin 1936. Avery Brundage made sure of that. From that point it pretty much became a sort of cold war, especially in the 60's and 70's where the Eastern Bloc countries were using what were essentially professional athletes, while Western countries sent amatuers and college kids.

The 72 Munich games were a disgrace. They should have been at the very least paused when the Israeli Team was murdered, but Mr Brundage was a known anti semite so they just played on. As unsportsmanlike as the US Basketball Team may have been, the event surrounding the officiating of that game were disgraceful as well.

The Games have been nothing but a media fueld, jingoistic, flag waving, money grub, starting with the thieves are the IOC. A bunch of Internationally Sanctioned Political Hacks, a lot like the UN, the only difference being the IOC has been doing it a bit longer.

*End personal rant* BTW this rant wasn't aimed at anyone in particular, I know a lot of you are enjoying the games, so just ignore it.
QFT - I do enjoy watching some of the competitions/athletes, but you are so correct on this.

but they started it
the Olympics were a stuffed-up political mess when the Greeks invented it. I just think it would be nice if the athletes just took the high road. The world was watching. Everybody knows what just happened. But acting like spoiled brats shifts the attention, unfavorably. The media talks about the "protest" and especially things like wills years later? C'mon. If none of the prima donna stuff went on afterward, sportcasters wouldn't know what to talk about. They might actually have to sit there and talk about "what bad officiated we just witnessed".

there are plenty of athletes competing that do so only to prove they can defy nature... i ran track & cross country in high school. i was pretty good. i didn't care that my name was on the wall and people acknowledged me. in fact, i was quite embarrassed by it. believe it or not, i was very shy in H.S. at that time, all i cared about was beating my (or anyone's) last best number by just one second, just because i am so competitive.

No I am not advocating doing away with them. The athletes should have their place and should be commended and those that wish to can cheer them on. I just ignore the whole thing as best I can.
I must agree with everyone's Olympic rants. I remember when we at least gave lip service to the concept of sportsmanship. Back when my husband played college basketball he tells me he would have been benched for showiing off if he had ever dunked the ball during a game. Now...
I cringed with embarrassment when I watched the 1984 opening ceremony in L.A.. It was three hours of extravagant bragging about how much better everything is in the U.S..
But then I wept with pride as I watched Joan Benoit attack in the first km of the very first women's Olympic marathon and run the whole race alone to win.

Uhm.. you are missing Claires half unclad body under the fruits and beer :)

Someone find Brenda and firmly duct tape me to this thread with a little leash that allows me to wander over to the Sales and Advert thing- What the hell has happened to people?? Everyone has gone stark raving mad- God- who let all these mean people in here anyway- you try to help someone out and they bite- first that moron with excel now some damn fool who can't ask a simple question like, "I'm sorry, I didn't understand the relevance of what you said to my question" with out tossing in "WTF are you on about" like I have a problem communicating-

You heard "One riot, one Ranger"? New rule for me- one question- one offer for help - period- end of story.
(Threaples and Sales/Marketing peeps excepted)
/me smiles peacefully to my self... ohmmmm :)
