/me listens as the distant roll of a bloody great thunderstorm starts moving inexorably closer and the sky darkens to Judgement Day hue.

That'll be me offline with modem/phone/TV aerial unplugged for the next few hours then. See you on the other side.

I hate those mail in rebate schemes. They usually are over complicated with sending in receipts, UPC codes, box tops, the deed to your house, and they expire in like 12 minutes after you leave the store........Christ. Just give me the fargin thing and be done with it. But making it complicated is all part of thheir insidious plan. They know a certain percentage of people will either send the wrong stuff or just won't bother at all. I usually avoid them.

I agree. Our local Office Depot is always selling things with rebates and wanting me to get the OD membership card, extended warranties etc and so on ad-nauseum.

One day the manager was running the register, playing he role to the hilt, offering extended warranty (no), offering rebates (NO), and offering a membership card (HELL NO). I told him you know there is one thing I would really like to get from his store.

I want service. I want a clerk to show me where the item I am buying it located. I want the clerk to walk to the items and point at them and answer my questions. I want to get in line at the register, pay for my item and go home. Without getting fourteen sales pitches. If an item is discounted then discount it. Don't sell it to me at full price promising a rebate check that will never come.

Not to mention that for some stupid reason it takes 8-10 weeks for them to get the freakin rebate check to you. Snail mail is not quite that slow.

I would offer my first born child, but I don' think they would really take him - it costs to much to feed him.

I tried offering a "buy one get one free" (Son 13, daughter 10) but I couldn't get any takers.

I walked out of a Ralph Lauren Outlet Store a few months ago, leaving $200 worth of stuff on the counter because of all the incessant attempts at Data Mining. "Zip Code?' No. "Phone Number" No. "Name and mailing address" NO.......I just want you to take my money and let me get out of here. "I'm sorry. The manager says we have to ask these questions" Well, tell your manager it just cost him a sale. I took my Ben Franklins and walked out.

The phone company have said the line should be fixed in 24 hours, but I've heard it before, so I'm not holding my breath.

Phone number, name, and address are pushing it; I wouldn't want to give those either. But zip code? Is that such a big deal?

It's not the point. I'm there to buy, pay in cash and get out. Not answer questions.
