You don't

Tomatoes are from Mexico, potatoes are from Patagonia (modern day Argentina).

I stand corrected. ;)

We also invented monster truck rallies, NFL cheerleaders, the 4th of July and Pro wrestling.

OH! I almost forgot. We didn't invent meat on a stick, but we DID invent the world's best meat on a stick. Corn dog anyone?

Ahh which religion is it then? I havent heard of "the Secret" religion.

I looked up "The Secret" it didnt say what religion it was part of, or that it endorsed.

You said Eastern

Shinto, Bhuddist, Tao, Confucism?

Colette? Hello...It's ALL of them. And none of them. The entire concept of The Secret is sewn through-out ALL religions. The text has been taken from a myriad eastern literature.

I believe we all pray to the same god...regardless of literature...some religions are completely different. But the majority of religions (east or west) have FAR too many parallels to ignore...hence...the same god (see: the tower of Babble).

Enough about Eastern philosophy now. We British conquered the largest empire in the history of the world, and the United States has become today's dominant super power - and we both did it using the superior values of Western Consumerism! Long live the free market. Let's see Eastern Philosphy do anything so magnificent. (note, the current Chinese economic renaissance coincides with an increase in Western ideals within the general population. Coincidence?)

It's all part of the gentrified pseudo-cultural "I was in woodstock but now I drive a range rover" class that has the "Free Tibet" bag that they take to Pier 1 Imports after talking with their "black friends" that they refer to as their "black friend" at the wine tasting session.

I grew up in Portland, guys. It's the capital of pseudo-eastern faux-philosophy and quasi-culture and it's rampant there. Anyone remember Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh?

This time of year, my favorite dinner is a crab cake sandwich and side dishes of summer squash and fresh picked sweet corn.

Eat local. It's healthy. You also support your neighbors and your local traditions.

There's no such thing as being rich and unhappy. People who have money and aren't happy just need even more money to sort things out.

Honestly, this statement discredits ALL that you say. I'm sorry.

Light bulbs and cotton yes. Penicillin no. Penicillin was discovered by an English doctor named Edward Jenner. Or it might have been spelt with a G. I forget.

The same nuclear weapons that eneded WWII Earlier than probably without, and that kept the russians from overrunning Europe in 1945. *And will probably enable the Chinese to overrun all of us soon*

I'm glad you're content. However, we're not talking about the secret any more, it's old thread-news.

So, those tomatoes then.....

Thank you, Conan for bringing this back to what's really important. Shameless plug: I've got a recipe available at my dock in southeast Peronaut for a truly delicious crab and tomato bisque. I might have to make that again this weekend.

The people with mental disorders were kept in hospitals, until the 60s and 70s, then the courts turned them out on the streets. And I don't consider drinking and drug use to be disorders, they are personal choices.

I am aware of that, I was merely pointing out that the drinking and drug use homeless are actually a small segment. What is far more prevalent is mental disorder and the people who are so poorly socialized that they cannot function in normal society. Now, we can argue what should be done in all those cases (and I suspect we agree on that point) but it is a mistake to assume that homelessness in general is caused by drug and alcohol addiction.

Did you mistakenly think that I was making a criticism? Nuclear weapons have been responsible for the longest period of world-wide peace the world has ever known. The Chinese won't overrun us - calm down. It's all about unity. Yes, there may come a time when China becomes the most powerful single nation in the world, as the USA is now. However, no nation can or will ever be more powerful than all the others put together. Ever.

I love seafood. I was watching a cookery program last week and the chef had these enourmous prawns from Mozambique. Seriously they were about 12 inches long ( no, they weren't lobsters, they were definitely prawns.)

Im sorry its hard to do a comparsion between something with an established history and world presence.

And a philosophy that can be described as "Its All of them , And none of them."

sounds like your original comparision wasnt apples to apples, it was apples to a clouds.

Good point. Substitute "Breakfast burritos" for pro wrestling in my post. Go anywhere in the world and try to find a decent breakfast burrito. You won't be able to do it.

The Aztecs were in the Americas, so they count. I'm all for expanding the definition of America if it means I get chocolate.

Now - I'm off to shoot up Snoopy's doghouse with my biplane.

That's not expanding the definition of America, that's merely using the correct one.
