Who cares what anyone else believes? Believe whatever works for you.

Personally, while I've not read The Secret, I have found that deciding what you want and coming up with a plan for getting it is usually a pretty good way of obtaining quality results in life.....

True, but the vital third and fourth stepa of putting that plan into action and seeing it through to the end are missing from your statement - I'm pretty sure that's what you mean't though. The problem with the secret (I can't bring myself to use capitals anymore, it doesn't deserve them) is the suggestion that merely wanting something is enough to get it - it isn't - the secret seems to absolve people of the need for hard work and that's where it all comes unglued.

The point is, positive thinking isn't the answer - elbow grease is. Positive thinking just makes the hard work easier to tolerate.

I think it was Thomas Jefferson who said "I believe in luck. It just seems that the harder I work, the more good luck I get." It might have been someone else though.

"btw, it's your fault that you're in this situation in the first place!"<-the place-holder

But, it is your own fault. That's no secret or special recipe. We reap what we sow. To say otherwise is to place yourself in the role of the victim who has no power and no control over your destiny. Choices matter.

Fly around in medieval rp areas and screw up their scenario. What! Forsooth! It is some great witchery in the sky! Lol - ok, that last one would be kind of mean - don't do that.

This contest is nothing short of epic. EPIC!

I used to go to Gorean sims dressed as some bizarre alien in armor acting as a traveller sent to observe their primative culture...to help form plans for conquest!

It was pretty fun, actually. People actually played along for the most part!

You choose to be a victim when you buy crap like "the Secret" and "What the Bleep", THAT'S for sure!

I'm all about people taking responsibility for themselves but this stuff alledges that it's your fault for having a disabled child or for not having enough money. Rational people know that there are certain things that happen that we have no control over. What you do AFTER those things happen is what defines you.

Anyway, I like breathing.

Brenda...you may not buy it, because you haven't seen it in action...at least, you aren't aware of seeing it...it's all around you.

I used the secret for things as large as getting my new job, to finding a parking spot. I'm not kidding...what I DON'T agree with about The Secret is using it to get rich...that's like praying to God to win the lotto...

I don't see a lot of difference between those things. They are all for persoanal gain.

Breathing is good. But Isablan has a point - some things are our own fault. Having a disabled child isn't - but if you live in a country where education is free (and most of us do) then not having enough money is most of the time. Let's face it, most poor people in developed countries with a decent educational system are poor for one of too reasons - (a) they have no qualifications and therefore limited employment prospects or (b) they spend too much on luxury items they can't really afford.
There might be a few exceptions - people who suffer injury and are unable to work for example - but the majority of poor people (in developed countries with education, as stated) fall into one of the above categories.

Whats the difference from claiming Positive or Negative thinking affects things you have no control over and claiming your thoughts are capable of altering reality?

Im sure positive thinking helps give people confidence and what not - but it can only affect things you have control over.

Hang on!

I already HAVE a biplane!

I wonder if it's copy/transfer.......

Crap - I forgot to check. If it's no transfer the deal's off. I don't think it is. At any rate, if you think you can get rich with one biplane, imagine what you could do with TWO biplanes. You'd have the beginnings of an empire. How about a charter biplane service to fly people around when tp is borked? As long as LL doesn't outlaw biplanes, you'll make millions.

Squeeze - That's brilliant. I wish to hell I'd thought of that. The rp'ers I've run into have fallen into two classes - one that is just there to have fun and go with whatever happens and one that is seriously into it and has absolutely no sense of humor at all. I like the first one much better.

Bingo!

And thanks, Trout for the prize donation. I'm going to check in periodically to see how it's going. A biplane sounds awesome!! Does it do barrel rolls? SL needs more barnstormers.

EDIT: Awww....I see we were posting at the same time. Maybe we could offer a t-shirt with a picture of the biplane? No? Not the same thing :(

Before someones asks..I am NOT into breath play.

Our lives are controlled by many things. Our choices, the choices of others, and random events we can't control, we can only react to them. And sometimes these random events are the results of other people's choices.

I'll certainly take the L$3 though. That's a 300% increase in my current wealth.

Well, I don't think it's no transfer, so the donation is still on. In the interest of full disclosure, I've never unpacked it, so I don't even know if it flies. I got it with all that other free crap that you get on Help Island and it's been sitting in my inventory collecting virtual dust since then.

I'm thinking of changing the contest to the best post about what you would do with a biplane in SL. 3L and the stupid...I mean totally awesome..biplane to the person who comes up with the best use for it. Assume it actually flies.

Brenda - Yippie kai ayy mf'er, and pass the mead and turkey legs.

Edit - crap - I thought you said Bruce Willis. /me goes off to google Bruce Campbell.

These theories have been around for ages (Old and New). Billy Graham, L. Ron Hubbard, Dr Norman Vincent Peale, The Inner Game series, The Chicken Soup books........

There is nothing wrong if you read them and what you read inspires you .....more power to you. But to be a believer of one of them and to posture that anyone who doesn't believe it is somehow not getting it or is somehow less intelligent is no better than saying one religion is superior to another.I don't look to mock any one's faith or lack thereof. I don't need a lecture on how some other belief is the truth either.

Note to Conan: I seriously recommend you find the book "Lamb" By Christopher Moore. I think it will be to your liking.

Wow, you guys. Would you DARE go on a forum and post that Christianity is "hippie bullshit?"

Incredible. It's NOT hippie bullshit...it's just as scientific as it is spiritual. If you knew that, or were capable of understanding that...you wouldn't have posted what you did.

Incredible. This is The Secret in action...lol.

I'll dare.

Long hair - check.
Long beard - check.
Both having a silly book that makes no sense -check.

Yup. it's hippy bullshit.

Of course I feel that way about any such practice.

Wow. You just said that out loud!

So there's little chance of someone going bankrupt from medical bills or a messy divorce or having their bank drained by a drug-abusing spouse? I guess getting sick or loving the wrong person is their own fault.

And decent education systems are great if you can afford to go to college after getting out of high school. And what about the people that live in the poorer school districts? How good of an education are they getting? You assume way too much in this area.

I guess you live in the upper crust so you don't see some of the things people have to deal with. I don't disagree that there are plenty of people that are poor because of their own ignorance and bad decision-making, but your neo-con attitude towards this subject is part of the reason there are still homeless and hungry people in the richest country in the world.

Urgh the Chicken Soup books! I hate that kind of thing. It depresses me that we've become such a weak gutless people that we would actually choose to invest money in crap like that. I was going to write a self help book once. I was going to call it "Pull yourself together.....worse things happen at sea."

As for L.Ron Hubbard. He invented a device, simillar in appearance to an electrical voltmeter or altimeter, to test wether something had a soul. I saw a picture of him testing tomatoes with this device.

What has the world come to?

I blame California.

Sure. It'll be no match for my biplane squadron of doom.

I honestly don't know what the deal is with the turkey legs. They can't have been that prevalent in the 1400's. Maybe England was overrun by turkeys while Ireland was battling snakes. They sure are delicious, though. (the turkeys, not the snakes)

Now I have to google Bruce Campbell and Medieval cuisine.

(Still irritated at myself for reading "Bruce Willis" when you clearly said something else.)

Jeesh - my typing skills are shot, too. I'm worthless today.

I want one! I'd modify it to see if things have soul. I'd test it out on Kenny G and Curtis Mayfield to see if it worked.

I agree on the turkey thing. Turkey's, as most people know, are native to North America, and were not discovered until around about the founding of Jamestown 1600andsomething (still technically the rennaissance, which lasted until the Industrial Age began in the 1720s - but they just feel wrong.) I was at a Medieval banquet in a castle last year and they served (shock horror) another American import - POTATOES!!!!! I was most disappointed.
