Is there anyway to tell if the woman you are talking to is not really a man? or vice versa?

Is Linden Lab considering adding gender verification to protect people from getting tricked into hooking up with the undesired gender of personal choice?

This is of paramount importance to one third of all players!

I do remember a thread back some time, a poll to be exact, it asked what you played in SL and what you really were in RL. Alot of sl women, are really men.

But we knew that.

Speaking from experience, before I really got to grips with SL, the novelty of "being what you want to be" spurred me to play a female for a short while. My major reason was, I preferred looking at a pretty girl .. than a guy!
However, not understood by me at the time, I found situations developing that were for me unacceptable, hence reverting to origin.
I found the experience liberating and educational but now understand the inherent dangers of commiting to a friendship where gender is questionable.
In the registration process Linden Labs demand to know real gender. I understand this is for protection of others who report unacceptable behaviour (griefing).
I guess the key is to just remember, is friendship governed by gender? I believe and fervently hope, not.

It's already in place. Move your avatar within 10 meters of their avatar and then press the W E B C A M and ? buttons on your keyboard.

Although I've tried it myself and have had mixed results. In response, they usually press the F,U,C,K,O,F,F buttons on their keyboard.

Personally, I find that women use less punctuation in chat than men. Also, if things get steamy, men's typing goes south much, much faster.

lastly, there's a couple of good tests: if the character invites you back to their place, and there's a kitchen, then it's a real woman. If their hairstyle is basic but their bod is bodacious, then it's a man...

I think Jauani is referring to the statistic bandied about that one third of people in SL are there to cyber. This may be true, I don't know.

I am a straight male with a male and a female AV. It's interesting to "walk a mile in the other guys shoes". People do react differently, despite the fact that I am still me, with the same sense of humour - people are much more willing to chat with my female avatar, although I have to keep Busy on to fend off all the suggestive IMs I get.

I like Gummi's tests - yes my female av is super-hot, but I have also devoted some considerable effort to her clothes. Gummi is right about the hair though - just because she's super-hot, doesn't mean she's necessarily a guy - plenty of girls want hot avs. No Rl girl would be seen dead in basic hair if she had the means to acquire prim hair though. Not over her dead body.

That's another test, if you see a female av regularly, but she seems to have a very limited wardrobe and wears the same clothes a lot, she's probably a he.

Gummi is also right about the kitchen - my RL fiance has a kitchen in her SL house, and I can't figure out why when it serves no useful purpose. It baffles me, but that's women for you.

Basically Jauani, if you're concerned that you're polishing the one eyed gopher and it's actually another guy at the end - it's okay, it doesn't make you gay. Just try to remember, you're avatar is having sex with their avatar - you're not having sex with them.

Incidentally, I managed to fool my fiance into thinking that my female AV was an actual girl - she still doesn't know it's me!!

Not only that but some ppl have a spouses or whatnot billing info and name on their account.

even LL can not really be sure of a gender

What if I'm a girl from a staunch religious background (like in Stephen Kings novel "Carrie"

where I was denied all knowledge of the naturalness of my own body and taught that periods were sent by the devil. I may not be able to answer your questions then either. Or I may have been born without a womb (it happens).

Ofcourse, they might be make-up questions, inwhich case any professional actor / drag queen worth his salt will know the answers too.

SL is populated by 100% males. Adding gender verification will result in the loss of one third of all the players, most of which are inclined to hook up with genders not similar to their own, and totally detrimental to the apparatus vendors and highly damaging to the economy.
