I don't even know why I'm posting this. More than likely just out of distaste for some. Granted all net mediums have their issues/drama/egos so on but really COME ON!!
The longer I deal with people who are online all the time, the more the cliche runs true. A place for fat, 40 somethings who are collecting disability ..or have something "wrong" with them to congregate, make themselves look like a model and adopt a spoiled bitches ego. Its quite frankly daunting.
Long flowing hair, tramp stamped and an overwhelming sense of entitlement. Multiple alts to be able to "marry" all the ones who come after them that they like. Keeping it on the "down low". On from the moment they wake up, to the point of passing out on the keyboard. Christ. Is reality that bad?
I can't stress more to some, contrary to popular belief, you are NOT your avi. If Sl shut down would you have a funeral for yourself? (I wouldn't be surprised if some did. posting a grave stone with their born and death date on facebook or myspace to continue to hold some type of illusion of superiority).
The mental state of some really needs to be questioned. I just witnessed some stripper freak out and quit a job at a club here because the manager asked her to take of her scripted pregnant belly. My jaw literally dropped. "Mmmmm... thanks for the tips sexy!"... "So and so is flooded with warmth knowing her twins will be born soon".... errrrrrr.. wtf!
I've seen desperate folk logging into multiple accounts to give some sense of popularity when others are around and have full out conversations with themselves through alts for show.
Granted, it takes all kinds to make the world go round, but wow. Just wow. I'm sure others have far more pathetic stories than some that i have... and these are just a few recent ones. After 3 years here, I can almost say I've seen it all... but some may prove me wrong below.
Are people really this pathetic? Do they see what they've become? Do they only dream in virtual now? (I know a few who do)

I think you might be hanging out at the wrong places. Also, if we gonna talk psychology, we might discuss why this upsets you so much

From: Smith Peel I think you might be hanging out at the wrong places. Also, if we gonna talk psychology, we might discuss why this upsets you so much Actually, it doesn't upset me at all. It's interesting all around. I'm honestly trying to understand the complete reality displacement.

(I know a few who do) Well obviously YOU are not- after all - almost three years for you- you are obviously well adjusted individual with no need for the acceptance of others- and are only doing this for the betterment of the community as a whole- we do appreciate the time you have take to share with us your comfort and well meaning input. Thank you so much- i for one can cast off the chains that heretofore bound me to this ballast that is SecondLife and the computer internet world entirely! Thank you- i have seen the light- or i soon will when i turn this off and take my rightful place on the grass and fresh air- thank you thank you thank you- Free at last etc, with a nod and apology to Dr. King.

From: Smith Peel I think most people are just trying to have fun, whatever that means for them. I completely understand that. Its a great social outlet for many who are home ridden. Many use facebook, my mother does, for the same outlet. It a medium for conversation and a sense of belonging to a collective that they can't achieve in real life. My heart goes out to them. But all the other crap that inevitably come into play is just odd. Sure it happens everywhere. Online, social cliques in real life..the list goes on. But ... ya. I don't know. Takes all kinds I guess.

Welcome to Friday? From: someone Are people really this pathetic? Do they see what they've become? Do they only dream in virtual now? (I know a few who do) Appearantly some people have gotten to the stage that what others do for entertainment bothers them. Sad, really, but nothing new...

My first question, WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU? I will be 40 in two weeks. Yes I am over weight now. Lack of ability to exercise and 4 mega doses of steroids a year tend to do that to a person. So yes, I do make my AV look like I did when I was 25 and healthy. Sure beats the hell out of what I look like now. Yes I am collecting disability, I paid into the damn system for many many years. Would I rather be doing something else? Hell yes. When I had to leave for a time because pain kept me from being able to sit at a desktop, I did write an obituary so my friends would know I was going. I did cry at leaving, friends of mine cried and those friends of their own free will got together and got me the tools I needed to come back. YOU have a problem with that? This is my lifeline, the thing that keeps my brain from turning to mush watching tv 18 hours a day. So I ask again WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU? If anyone is the pathetic person around here it is you.

Or, did this sense of superiority just kinda grow on you with time? You did say you don't know why you're posting this. I don't either, you actually had to come onto the SL forums to say this. For what purpose? If I felt like you do, I'd just leave......

Welcome to friday! with those obligations out of the way, i'll just say this: this show of disgust with what you believe to be the average "player" hints strongly at you being like that, and THAT is what you don't like. Sl on the whole is a great place, I know many well rounded people who use it to create and have fun. More to have fun than anything and its great. By no means do I hold this opinion about everyone, nor is this a full out attack in any way. Its more of a conversation I felt like having about the way some people take this medium to a whole different level and make it their complete lives and it turning on them in a negative way.

Now, you didn't say that implicitly but you certainly implied it. Please re-read your posts. Even the title is offensive to those who enjoy SL and have no intentions of quitting. You are using a lot of provocative and judgmental words. If you don't wanna talk to cool people, what is the point of SL for you? Could it be that you enjoy feeling "superior" (your word) to the people you are judging? Furthermore, /me leaves ya to the freaks!

You are too close to the truth for the habitues of this forum, Tore. Even my friends here ("Friends? Who the hell is he talking about?" would admit under pressure or oath that their real lives are not the "Happily married to my childhood sweetheart, had 2.4 kids, in good mental and physical health and been working for the same employer for 20 years" types. If you check out the "perverts" thread (sorry no link but I am sure someone will oblige) you will get some corroborative evidence, but you'll also find arguments that there is no such thing as "normal". Well, at least in sl. Well, there may or may not be, but it is less likely in sl than in real life, mainly because the same moral, physical and practical constraints don't apply. Even then, do you reckon you could identify ten of your friends who might be outwardly considered normal - and *then* consider what they do behind closed doors? You're going to get a few tirades from people like Chris who will take your pointing out the bleeding obvious as an implicit personal criticism, but that is what the forums are about; people expressing personal views as if they are universal truths. It's what you have done, so why shouldn't everyone else pile in? It is Friday after all. I'll be watching to see how this thread develops. From: Chris Norse My first question, WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU?
I will be 40 in two weeks.
Yes I am over weight now. Lack of ability to exercise and 4 mega doses of steroids a year tend to do that to a person. So yes, I do make my AV look like I did when I was 25 and healthy. Sure beats the hell out of what I look like now.

YOU have a problem with that? This is my lifeline, the thing that keeps my brain from turning to mush watching tv 18 hours a day.
So I ask again WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU? If anyone is the pathetic person around here it is you. You left out the last line of "spoiled bitches ego" and the superiority complex of it all. Adding in the acts that follow in my original post. THAT'S the part i find interesting and a cause for conversation. If you read my other posts in this thread you'll see i think its a great outlet for those who are stuck at home and such through no fault of their own. It the FEW who take it so seriously that the sense of self is gone, and only the avatar is real. A complete displacement. Seems everyone for the most part, who are replying to this thread automatically assume this is what I think about everyone when I never said that. Or that I'm attacking everyone. Its not an attack its a conversation of some of the personality types I see, and I felt like discussing it. Now the attacks against me are coming. My lack of sex life, that somehow me writting this is me mad at myself because it "must" be a reflection of what I'm feeling when I look in the mirror.... I'm sure the list will go on as this thread continues and it will just make some peoples true colours show.
