From: Stylee Streeter LOL cmon man it was a 192 with adfarms all the way around it. therefore i am not ruiinng anyones land it was already ruined! did i put any ads on it? no did i cut up a nice area? no i am careful about what i do in SL. unlike some poeple! but if you wanna jump to conclusions and antagonise poeple they are bound to react and become ruthless. and (not that I would ) but ive heard of other ad farmers chopping up land in areas they are banned from just to get there own back so keep that in mind Yeah I know the area already didn't look so hot, but still, I'm just pointing out the technicality here. Can't say 'never' when the answer is really 'sometimes'. And really, why start a chain reaction by cutting up more of the area, which in turn encourages other people to cut more, until the whole sim has gone to crap? It's gotta stop somewhere. I just can't help but antagonize people, I suppose. And you're absolutely right about some of the ad farmers - they have bought land from me that I put back together and banned them from and then they chopped them right back up again. That's why someone made a proposal in JIRA to stop people on parcel ban lists from buying it.

Maybe the 16m fanatics should just buy their own sim and carve the whole thing into 16m to their hearts content

What annoys me is when they are thousands of lindens. I helped a friend buy a bunch of bits and peices near her sim to help her village. Except one spot because the person wanted 500k in lindens. I want to board it up with big prims and my friend told me not to because I could be reported for mega prim abuse.

I wouldn't call it megaprim abuse as you can do the same thing with regular prims. You are not hurting any residents or businesses (something with a building). It's not crossing anyone's land, etc. Just box it in, make it phantom, and add some nice textures.

From: Ciaran Laval That's the way businesses work. In the UK house prices have gone through the roof. Ridiculous inflation on the price of houses and building firms buy houses very quickly to keep the prices going up. They are purposely exploiting the market but if someone is willing to pay the asking price, that's business and whether you think it's morally repugnant is not the issue.
I don't like it anymore than you do but it's a business practice, how you can call them losers when they turn out making more than they should is a tad confusing. What you describe isn't the RL equivelant to ad farms tho... it's the RL equivelant to SL land flippers. Totally different... flippers make profit by turning the land over at an increase... they DONT antagonize others on purpose to try and force someone to pay their huge ransom. There's a different business and moral model at work... one really is just normal business, the other is just lame and low. The term "loser" referred to their ethics, not their money. One doesn't have to be poor to be a loser.

If you two want to get into a pissing contest over some stupid little 16m2 plots, do it somewhere else, please. Dorks.

I was going to buy a 16sq plot in order to get a chat relay working, but now with llRegonSay() I don't need to buy a 16sq plot.
In RL you can't divide a lot into 4x4 squares and sell it because it would cost too much.
I've also looked at buying land along a linden road and decided against it since it had 16sq plots between the parcel and the road.
On the otherhand 16sq plots are still usefull for two sim comunications as llRegonSay() does not cross sim bourndys and thus you need a small plot someplace within 100m to get a llShout to it.

Land flippers turn a profit from cutting the land into smaller sizes and selling those at a higher rate. Pick any sim with large parcels and see how it survives the next few days. The parcels get smaller and smaller until one land flipper finally buys a 512m² and starts cutting that into ad plots. E-mail and XML-RPC work just fine for inter-sim communications.

Dorks. im realy sorry about that Sindy, i realy dint want to have to do it, and i had a long conversation with the leader of the arbor 'MOB' and after trying to be diplomatic and getting nowhere i had to take action which i warned them i would do. I will happily remove those signs (as i never put signs up usualy and delete any on land i buy), as soon as a certain someone moves their monstrosety off MY land.

Here's a summary of Stylee Streeter's response:
"It's ugly and awful and terrible when other people do it, but when I do it it's OK."
I call foul. He's just as bad as the rest of them. He's a part of the problem, and indeed by thinking (or at least saying) that he's not a part of the problem, he just makes it all worse.
He's either completely disingenuous, or very good at dispelling cognitive dissonance. Either way, his response is a load of horse puckey. As long as he's cutting land and putting in ad farms, he's contributing to the decline of the SL mainland, and doesn't deserve the time of day. Even if he's not lying about "only defacing places that already suck," he's making them worse, and he's making it harder to clean them up.
He deserves to remain on the blacklist. (And, by the way, the veiled threat was understood, Stylee; everybody else, ignore it.)
The only business model that makes sense for those 16sqm plots is extortion, and anybody who's doing it should be given the social respect that an extorting bully deserves.

-Rob part of the problem? lol. there is no problem as far as im concerned. im just enjoying playing the game by the rules and tbh i couldnt care less if you like me or not rob lol. ive as much right to be here as anyone else, and i try and be considerate whether you believe that or not. and if LL say its ok to buy and sell 16s its fine by me. and if LL say what arbor are doing is greifing then that is what they are doing. stick to the rules of the game, not mob rule. if you dont like the rules go somewhere else! and for the record, my business model is to buy good ad land spots at a reasonable price and sell it to people that want to advertise in game. its not my fault you dont like adverts. hey why dont you boycott your local tv station cos the commercial break is ruining your view!

From: Stylee Streeter I focus mostly now on buying 512s and 1024s and landscaping them, putting nice houses etc on them. From: Stylee Streeter my business model is to buy good ad land spots at a reasonable price and sell it to people that want to advertise in game. So which is it? Unless you're one of those carving out the ad space and keeping it barren up until the land sells and then only the next day you put down the ads. Very ethical indeed.

Very ethical indeed. its both! i have nice plots on nice sims, and 16s on crappy sims. and no im not one of those lol, ive told you already. but even they are playing by the rules. like any online gaming world if you wanna win the game you gotta be smart. if ads are such a concern to you either go live on a private island or buy a plot in a nice already built up sim instead of trying to gang up on game players.

From: Stylee Streeter like any online gaming world if you wanna win the game you gotta be smart. Fundamentally, this is the real issue here. Thank you, Stylee, for pointing this out. This may be the only time I thank you for anything, but I'm sure it won't break your heart. Some people in SL, like the land cutters and some of the bot runners, see SL as an online gaming world, and the way to win the game is to make lots of money. Other people, like participants in the Arbor Project and people who wish to make nice homes on the mainland, see SL as a virtual community and want to be good citizen participants in their online world. These two groups of people collide, and we end up with threads like this one.
