16sqm plots of land

I bought new land this week, beautiful and ocean fronted on a new sim.

Yesterday, the person who bought the land behind me, sold it and the new owner has split a lot of it into 16sqms on which are rotating ads going up quite high in the sky. Many of the 16sqms are for sale. I have 2 questions:

1. Did I read somewhere that LL have started to remove 16sqm plots?

2. I am tempted to buy some of them to remove the rotating ads but then I think the owner of the remainder of the land will just split it up into more 16sqms. Anyway I would hate to give these people money. Do I have any other options other than to build a high wall?

Its a land sellers trick .... they make the land around you essentially worthless..

I dont know about the lindens removing 16 m parcels ... but i agree its REALLLY ugly ...

Ive had to sell land in the past due to the very same reason ... and a major loss as I couldnt bare to look at them any more.

I noticed last night ... there was a few and the pictures were REALLLY nasty ... and the 16smw plots were up for 3k EACH!!!!!!!!! so it goes to show you doesnt it.

Yes, REALLY ugly. So I need to build a very tall wall with pretty textures my side.

That's probably your best option for now - don't give in to the extortion and buy the plots at those inflated prices.

You have to think like a Linden. In times past, "griefer" builds like that were "free expression".

Oh, except this month, Linden Lab is opposed to free expression. I think that you can fully expect that they'll do something random, confusing, and generally ineffective about the issue if it gets media attention.

What I have done before ... is buy all the vacant area around...... build mega prim walls and TOTALLLY obliterated the adverts..... A few of my in world friends do the same.

Not ideal ...... but building a wall is about the limit of what you CAN do atm ....

and to be honest ..... im getting PRETTY pissed off with the "free expression" shit that i keep reading .....

the defination of free expression ..... ok ... im a slave trader .... I want to express my need to earn money by selling africans....

im a drug dealer .... I want to express my need to show other users what its like to have no money and be doped up all the time...

im a pimp ... its my right to express my need to earn extra money from my "biatches" so I slap them around a bit for not turning "bigger tricks"

This person just wants to live there Second Life ... how THEY choose, you cannot say that sex adverts are expressive AT ALL ... I think "free extorsion" would be better terminolgy.

Thanks Valentino, I am going to the Arbor location in world to sign up. Its weird but the person directly behind me has removed the 16sqm plots and has put a house on his land but the person behind him now has the 16sqms and loads more for sale. The rptating ads are like 'want to be a porn star' and 'adult dvds for rent' yuk.

Then I come back and build the wall.

you've been around a while Latonia so i'm sure you're aware of how fast the mainland evolves. instead of wasting money on those plots, build that nice wall you're talking about (huge prims are your friend) and sit it out.

It's difficult to see who owned the land originally, so many owners of the mini plots. One of them has lag master in the land name. Nice huh

There was a real danger of a huge ad farm near one of my properties the other month... and someone from the AP came and cleaned it up in no time.... one 16m2 plot got through before they'd finished, but better than the alternative.

Another thought - what if i bought one of the plots, some are under 600L (tuppence in old English money lol) and put a tree on it? I would have to carefully ensure that the base was on the 16sqm if that is possible and that might obliterate some of them. On the other hand there is the danger that they will move the ads even higher

I have joined the Arbour Project group and need to see if I can find the original owner of the land.

That's why they do it. They put annoying ads and set a high price for it thinking maybe someone with pay that high price to get rid of them.

Sorry in all 3 of your cases force is being used against others. This invalidates all claims of free expression. Ad farms, however ugly, do not include the use of force. If you don't like them, don't look at them, build a wall, sell your land, or buy theirs.

Thank God SL is not a democracy. Democracy is nothing more than mob rule. This is why the true "Greatest Generation", the men who founded America and wrote the Constitution, did not implement democracy, but instead a constitutional republic. Of course the steady drumbeat of democracy is being pounded into our heads.

i beleive i am on the blacklist, but i never cut up 16s. i only buy a few already created and i REMOVE any ugly advertising.

I focus mostly now on buying 512s and 1024s and landscaping them, putting nice houses etc on them.

alas certain land barons whom use this blacklist service have lost out on alot of sales from me and alot of opportunity to turn areas of their boring empty sims into nice looking growing districts.

oh well your loss. I could still buy your land with these teleport home scripts on them and do some nice developments or even chop them into a million 16s if i wish, cos the blacklist system is flawed. but i choose not to as i am against mob rule and i spend my money with more appreciative land barons / owners and help develop there land instead

Does the Arbor Project buy the 16 m2 plots from the extortionists? If so, doesn't that simply feed them and encourage them to buy more, set them for sale at some ridiculous price, fill with horrible images/ads and then wait for the Arbor Project people to buy them out again?

The ONLY reason people put those up is NOT for advertising. It is to extort the neighbors into buying them out. Can't you file an Abuse Report for that?

I don't know if you can AR them but I do know I won't give them money by buying any of the 16sqms. They can rot in hell.

If you buy where there are a lot of fresh 512s for sale, there is a 90% chance some will be carved up by ad farmers and your view destroyed.

I am a member of the Arbor Project. I had another run-in with a 16meter ad farmer last night and I must say that while we are all God's creatures and I love everyone unconditionally, I hope all spam farmers die a slow and painful death choking on the few extra nickels they make defacing the Mainland with their ugly ads. Every estate owner owes them a huge debt of gratitude for sending people their way. ANYONE who carves up 16s is basically making the Mainland unlivable if you have any aesthetic sense at all.

They are a micro-example of the greed that is killing our planet: The only thing they care about is short-term profit at the expense of others, community and the environment. And no, I don't feel like I'm overstating anything. It's the same exact self-seeking myopic dynamic that must be changed if we are to survive, in SL and RL. That's why I have this in my signature: Read Eckhart Tolle's book, "A New Earth".

Is anyone ever influenced by these ads on 16m plots? I don't think I've ever followed one up!

I used to buy pairs of 16m plots, combine them into 32m ones and put my boxed goods for sale on them. I had a steady trickle of items sold plus I usually sold the land at a small profit too eventually.
