I personally try and buy up the small plots on land just to make SURE that they dont get rebilled as ad farms.

I see so many conflicting views about " its a game so I can shit on people" or " LL is american and as we have the bill of rights that makes US right"

SL is an international thing.... people dont particully like ad farms... UNLESS they are a farmer themselves.

As for my elitism ... too f***ing right, I beileve in fair treatment .... good prices for good quality builds etc... If you buy 16m plots and landscape them ... WEYYY HEYYY nice one...

If you buy a 512 ...carve it up .. and fill it full of porn adds ... then its a shame that you see SL as nothing more than a pimp show.

Perhaps you could give your point of view on exactly what these 16m plots are good for besides just lining the owner's pockets?

First of all unless a person owns a number of 16sm properties he doesn't have a lot of prims to take to a property war. If you want to harrass them as they are harrassing you then see a previous post:
"neighbour prims crossing my parcel border"

This will only work for the ones touching your property and perhaps you can afford a couple of those for sale props. This solution may only be temp if a linden gets involved.

Your view doesn't offend me in the slightest but I think you're naive. If people can put up the price of their land by building ad farms in such a small space then unfortunately that's capitalism at its finest.

This is something I wouldn't do but those who do it, fair play to them, that's the world we're in.

Yeah and idiots will put 20 of the same sign in the same place in quiet resdential sim instead of one sign in the right place, thenagain perhaps the people pating for the advertising are the dumb ones and someone should tell them 20 small signs in the same place don't give them 20 times more business.

I totally agree. Boycott the offending advertisers. You may also send an im or notecard to the owner of the business letting him/her know that you will not patonize the business and that you are asking your friend to do likewise.

Oh definitely agree with that. I think we remember bad experience for something like 23 years on average but all I was trying to say was that if they can manipulate the market for land in this fashion, that's an unfortunate side effect of SL. I wasn't condoning it at all.

Actually, it's social extortion at it's worst, and the people who would knowingly deface SL, and annoy/grief/bother/plague/spam others just to PURPOSELY try to get them to buy up to get rid of it are complete garbage. These losers actively look for plots that will maximize their annoyance factor to the neighbors, effectively taking part of the visual aspect of the area hostage, and demanding a criminals high ransom to get it back. No... i don't believe they should have the right to do that.

That's the way businesses work. In the UK house prices have gone through the roof. Ridiculous inflation on the price of houses and building firms buy houses very quickly to keep the prices going up. They are purposely exploiting the market but if someone is willing to pay the asking price, that's business and whether you think it's morally repugnant is not the issue.

I don't like it anymore than you do but it's a business practice, how you can call them losers when they turn out making more than they should is a tad confusing.

This happened to me, I moved away from a large area that myself and my group held. Since what we had been doing with the land didn't work, I moved back. And right next door was one group of 16m land parcels. We bought a couple of the lower priced ones, but don't want to raise our tier for the others. Not to mention, the land with the most disgusting ads is selling for 4500. LOL, but we will win. I built a wall, 30 meters high. *Gasp* She lifted her 3 prims of ads taller then my wall. I built my wall taller. I don't care how high she raises her stupid porno prims. I have over 2k prims, she has three. I surround those plots on 3 sides. If anyone pays over 1 linden for them now, they're paying way too much. I win.

BTW for those curious, my walls can't even be complained of as visual spam. My side shows a lovely forest scene. The opposing side, nice green GNU moss.

Maybe if we all sent them IMs they might get the message? I don't believe in miracles but you never can tell.

The Arbor Project maintains a list (based on observance and research not just hearsay) of the people who cut up parcels into 16m2 - the Parcel Cutters - and freely distributes a script which bans them from your land. It's the Arbor members' way of saying "you're not welcome". Currently there are over 350 members with scripts in over 600 regions.

Oh - I should also say - the project doesn't just Ban the Parcel Cutters, it tries to enter into dialogue with them and 'educate' them; some of them have ended up reforming because of our work. So you don't necessarily stay banned for ever.

I almost surrendered. But better than fighting for some pretty theory why not accept the human nature "as is" like many open sources, and go beyond accept or not accepting something as "good" or "bad"? Isn't what art is all about? experimenting the unexpected and bringing out the good in the bad and the bad in the good and make us all a little more small, insignificant and humble?

why fight it and make it stronger when you could do something with it and invalidate their purpose? that's the challenge, that's the real art and that's the real hard thing to do

but if you wanna jump to conclusions and antagonise poeple they are bound to react and become ruthless. and (not that I would ) but ive heard of other ad farmers chopping up land in areas they are banned from just to get there own back so keep that in mind
