Yeah, what Lil and Brenda said.

The thing is, it's ALL fractured. Not just the community, but if you go to an alternative forum, there aren't any/many QUESTIONS. I mean, people who can't figure out some aspect of SL.

I wish Trout were here. We really should have one last "Letter from The Lindens".

The other was on how to report bad posts over there - the answer, which I find a little hard to believe but appears to be true, is to contact Lexie Linden directly..

's true. They do not have a completed, working "report posts" functionality in the Answers blogorum, nor an actual support staff base for it beyond, Lexie, Blue, and I believe one other Linden staff member.

But wouldn't that be.... (oh, what's that phrase?)... "not scalable"?

We found common ground here because it was the "offical" forum. This forum really has no distinct personality of it's own, although some might disagree with that. But all the 3rd party forums do, and people will be drawn to whichever one suits their tastes.

I'd say the Forum on the Cartel web site has the least personality. In fact, soon it'll have to be treated for Schizoid Personality Disorder.

When all the activity of the Forums migrates to the blogorumforum thing, only the non-abusive bits will move. The question of scalability therefore does not arise. Simple!

And..... Qie gets zero points in the Love Machine that bit of 'negativity'. :)

I just tried to sign up to that forum but I didn't receive the code (I'm logged in). Maybe it only accepts Cartel members.

lol. That's probably it. I tried another forum yesterday that asked me to jump through hoops (go inworld and find a box etc.) so I didn't bother. Do you think that all SL forums are programmed to deny me access?

All the ones that I've managed to locate. :p

You actually had to go on a hunt to join the forum? What nonsense. That's like the requirements at SC. "You must post in this thread, you must have a forum avatar."

That's one of the problems with 3rd party forums. They become gated "Members only clubs". The good thing about this one was the only requirement was you be an SL account holder. I used to complain loud and long when you had to be PIOF to come her, and was happy when that was done away with, and enjoyed all the people who went hysterical over letting "those peole" in here.

Ah but you needed to make sure that all the administrators knew - Slack just let me in, so your efforts failed :D

Is there a transcript of what he said about it available anywhere?
Not that I know of. I forgot to turn logging on myself. But, trust me, he did reconfirm that the Forums were going away in favor of the blogs and implied it was weeks away versus some nebulous time in the future. Now I could have misinterpreted it but I don't think so.

In the real world we have senses that help us to navigate the world and be successful. In Second Life we have senses, too, but they are different. One very important "sense" for me has always been this forum. It's a bit like a sense of smell (I hear you laughing) - important information is transmitted that way, and often it's the first way we receive that information. For instance, in the real world I might smell smoke - and go to investigate. Or I might need more information about something - say, milk - and deliberately sniff it. In real life sometimes there's a fresh scent of new mown hay, or an indication that I'm near the sea - or unpleasant odours that warn or inform. SL's forum, too, can be a first indicator, a way to gather more information, or even a complete experience at times.

I've appreciated all this forum has provided, and have really attempted to make use of the information, and opportunities to be helped or provide help. There is no substitute, as far as I can see.

Oh, I trust you on it.

It's really wishful thinking on my part. I still hold out some glimmer of hope that the replacement for these forums will be better forum software, not the blogs.
