Can someone post replacement forums, or is that forbidden. I find forums so nice for researching answers and learning more about SL, and while I keep to myself mostly in world (and don't post here) I feel connected to people here when I read their stories and ideas.

We have a growing forum http://slapt.me there is Ann's forum at http://www.annotoole.com/forum/default.aspx and http://www.secondcitizen.net/Forum/index.php and more I know but cannot remember them all lol I would suggest go and have a lurk and then find one or 2 that suit you and then sign up :)

Looks like it could be just a few weeks away. I say this because Blue Linden strongly hinted at this timing during his office hours today.

Is there a transcript of what he said about it available anywhere?

I can't post at SCII. I registered there a little while back but they denied my registration for some unnamed reason.

I went to have a look at that forum because, from what I've gathered here, it's run by people who have my respect. I had a look in what appeared to be the general discussion forum and saw two locked stickies about content protection and such. They were written by someone who I'm convinced stole the system that he sells. That put me right off.

Nevertheless, I tried to register but the method is too cumbersome for me. Having to go and find an in-world terminal to confirm my registration isn't something I want to do. I would have competed the registration had it just sent an email, as forums normally do. I imagine it's because the registration is for the whole selling site and not just for the forum, but I'm only interested in the forum. I've never offered anything for sale external to SL, and I've no intention of doing it.

Incidentally, the retuned page, after submitting the registration form, contains a box with the activation key. That box displays vertically, with one word per row. I'm using IE8.

If you don't post in their "Ellis Island" forum almost immediately, they reject your membership request with a delightful "Unfortunately your registration at Second Citizen MK II did not meet our membership requirements. Therefore your registration was deleted."

Oh. I didn't even know I could sign in and post immediately; I thought I had to wait for approval. Well shoot.

As a forum lurker for years this would be one of Linden Labs biggest mistakes. The information and help these forums have given are invaluable. Yes there are great alternative sites out there but this has always been like home base.
Things have and will always change in Second Life, like the introduction of the blog. Change for the most part is good but I find the blog confusing and difficult to navigate. I have tried to follow posts there and they have either been moved or just disappear. One post I was following was people pleading for a commerce forum, if I could find it I would post the link.
If Linden Labs wanted to close down this forum they should have and kept the SLex forum as a replacement. The entire SLexchange site wasn't broke so why did they fix it?
They can't close down this forum because I haven't even looked at the "just ignore and let this one die" post yet.

Darn! This forum keeps me informed and entertained while I am at work. :( It would be nice to somehow have a listing of other sl related forums. I have noted the few that was mentioned in previous posts.

Anymore?

The forum software has been modified so that it will self-destruct when the post count in the Undying/Never-ending Thread gets to 100,000.

So... the last post in the Forums will be along the lines of "I think I win!!!!"
The precise timing will be very uncertain as posters will be gaming the post numbers by deleting their own previous posts where they can to prevent others from hitting the magic post number.

Well...if we all stopped posting in the Thread, or deleted posts to keep it under 100K...would that keep this lemonade stand open?

(Might be worth a try)

I am at Second Citizen, and I like it there. If you need help getting activated, LET ME KNOW. I can tell one of the mods that you're a real person. You have to join, then post in the Ellis Island thread or contact one of the moderators. This is to keep spammers out.

I agree. I was reading a recent article that talked about how hard it is to figure things out and to find people in SL, and I was going to point the writer to these forums...

I'm registered the other places, and will peek in when I can, but they are NSFW so won't be often. This one didn't throw a giant red flag to my tech dept, but the others would, can't chance it. :(

I wonder if there will be notice or just try to log in one day and get a 'page not found' error....

I will miss you guys so much.

I do not know where to go when this one ends

If you google my name in quotes, you can find an alternative.

I think I've posted in this thread before. Or maybe one of the other "forums to close soon" threads. Or maybe 10 of them..

/me continues to go about her business until something actually happens.

If/when they do finally shoot this place, I dunno.. I very, very much like the separation between SL/RL and don't know that I'll be going to 3rd party sites much. I'd probably take that over the damn flogs though. At least until LL gets them working properly.

I'll believe it when I see it....Since I started in June 2007, there has been talk and it hasn't happened yet. That's, what....two years, seven months? It'll go on at least that much longer... :D hopefully ;)

Did somebody already mentioned MVX as an alternative? It's not only a forum though, it's a complete e-commerce site dedicated to virtual worlds like SL and has a waaaaaaaaaaaay more attractive and efficient user interface for merchants and shoppers compared to most other alternatives I've seen. It's really worthwhile to have a look and to register.

/me hopes that people who don't want these forums to go away have told Blue Linden about it. Notecard, office hour, chat, blog comments, whatever.

hmmmm....I guess I never thought of that, since I don't believe they care a hoot what we think or feel...but maybe not a bad idea. I'll send one, guess it couldn't hurt. Thanks ;)
