So, Colton and a Linden-to-be-named-later are joining the search. I'm not sure what to make of that. Hopefully it's good news, but it's very interesting that one of the Lindens doesn't want their identity known. Maybe there are secret recordings from the inner offices of LL. Is there a parking garage where the meeting can take place?

I imagine it was more a case of Colton not wanting to "out" a fellow Linden. They can sometimes be a reluctant bunch.

Every picture I've seen he looks very grumpy. I can't imagine moleskin pants would do that to a chap, so I'm guessing he has standard issue Linden pants in at least one size smaller than they should be.

Yes maybe he had bad case of Mr. Evil Pants enough to make anyone grumpy and want to go off in some cave where they could be pant-less alone;)

Future Meeting...?
05-06-2008 01:56
From: Marianne McCann
I spoke to Colton Linden tonight, an he wanted me to let everybuggy know dat he an another Governance Linden are ready and willing to lend a hand to the search (and have, apparently been doing some exploring on their own). He also wishes to know of any future meetings of the explorers.

Hi Sal (hope you are no longer see-through!) how about another meeting at the Bodega Base? We could invited the gathering number of Lindens who are following and helping this cause - they may be able to help arrange a trip into Bay City...

I'm not sure what to make of this either, Argos. I went and checked out Colton's parcel in the Linden Village and he has stuck Mari's poster up next to his front door. There is also a photo on his wall of him holding a Where's Magellan sign and next to him is an unidentified person wearing a backpack and a Where's Magellan T-Shirt. So perhaps our efforts to "spread the word" in the Linden Village have made some headway, or have caused the Lab's investigative searchlight to be directed toward us, or both. Either way we should proceed with caution. I wonder if the one in the backpack is the other Linden on the Governance team that Colton referred to?

It may be that the Lindens are looking to infiltrate the Explorers for intel. I suppose that could have been accomplished better with alts or by just Grid-tracking us, so perhaps this is more of a legitimate offer for help. (Fortunately the parcel access controls at the base have been modified to prevent Grid recording or transmission of parcel activity when it's activated.) It may also be that these Lindens are going out on their own and attempting to find Magellan without the Lab's official consent. Sort of a "plausible deniability" situation. After all, there has been no official mention of Magellan on the Linden's Blog. Just the photos that Jeska posted on her Flickr account. If so, they may be risking more than we know.

I would want to make sure that Colton and this other lab worker are not just puppet Lindens who's job is to string us along on some wild Magellan chase. How do we know we can trust them? I'm still trying to figure out what that whole situation in the Lab's basement was all about. I suppose engaging with them would be the best course... get to know them a bit. Keep the friends close and the enemies closer. Are they enemies or are they just folks like us trying to find their way in this world?

I agree. Another meeting is in order. Time to catch up, get everyone up to speed on recent developments and get the new folks, interested in participating, acclimated. I'll send out a notice as to the day and time for the next get-together.

Yup. He tole me about dat piccie, an indicated he also gave a copy of it to Jeska. At the time, too, Colton was wearing a "Looking for Magellan" group tag as well. It seems as if it was his own creation, however, and not a sanctioned tag.

That Colton is a puppet is without question (see http://sluniverse.com/pics/pic.aspx?id=268266 ). The real question wil be who pulls his strings.

I'm working on a new item to aid the search. More details soon-ish

Whenever you get a meeting time figured out, don't forget to post about it back here. I think my groups are already full, and there may be some other lurkers on the thread that are interested.

I'll send you a notecard, Argos. Any lurkers out there just send me an IM. I'll pass the notecard on and make sure you're on the Explorers' Base parcel list.

Whenever dat meeting is, I'll bring my new toy. A decoder ring that also works as a Magellan detector. :-)

so bay city is open now, any sightings yet?:)

edit:
I (well, my alt) just found a piece of debris, created by someone who seems to be into building airships, close to the bay city airship terminal in Bay City - Docklands

Yet another day of waiting til I can get home t'explore! I want to see if I do indeed find an airship mooring along the waterfront.

As soon as I heard the city had opened, I rushed over and set to exploring! I made a beeline to the airship terminal. Sadly... or perhaps fortunately I wasn't able to find any of the wreckage that Schobbejack pointed out.

It was a little haunting to climb to the top of the Airship terminal and look over the same scene depicted in Jeska Linden's photos. Interestingly enough, there was a curious picture hanging on the terminal walls ...

There's a picture of Magellan's Airship on the wall of the airship terminal. It was created in 2002 by newbie_template Linden. I don't think we'll be able to track that one down now. There's still no way to tell if the photo is from before the Gaeta crash or after.

I would tink before: the numbers are more visible on this image, and appear to match the wreckage at the Squall crash site.

it looks like a small hull plate under water near the bridge, but could be from just any airship

I haven't been able to go beyond a quick 2 minute stop over yesterday - I'll be there tonight (tonight UK time which is 8pm GMT or 12 noon SL time) so if any fellow Magellan Seekers are about, say HI :)

Yer welcome!

Field notes, Marianne McCann, age 5 1/2 (excerpts)

"... Passed a few more decoders amongst the explorers I could tink of. I gotta collect more box tops an get s'more..."

"... it took a bit, but II found the mooring. It was kinda crowded though, which made it hard to spend much time there. In comparing it to the piccies from Jeska's photo album, though, it definitely looks like the same place. More proof of dis was found below, in the lobby -- a piccie much like dat form th' album, an it looks like the registry numbers match the wreckage in Squall!

http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/pic.aspx?id=275582...

"...Did't see much else dat seemed to relate directly to Magellan, but knowing he was here before any of us makes me feel good. Tells me dat he is out there an 'sploring. But while his footprints is sorta here, where is the man himself nowadays?..."

Explorers Meeting Saturday, May 10 @ Noon
05-09-2008 09:13
I've been having trouble uploading a new notecard to the Grid so thought I'd take Argos' request to heart and just post the meeting time here. I'll try to send one via Gridmail as well.

With the griding of the first portion of Bay City this week, and a parade next weekend (Saturday, May 17 @ Noon), I thought it would be good to have a quick Explorers' Meeting this Saturday, May 10, at the Explorers' Base in Bodega (northern coastline) to catch up on developments. Perhaps even take a quick trip to the Airship Mooring Mast in Bay City after the meeting. We can start speculating on where Magellan might be now and what he might be up to. Plus try and figure out the timeline from his visit to Bay City to his campsite in Gaeta (or vice versa).

See you there!

I explored Bay City briefly. Haven't found anything new about Magellan, but there are some interesting places there - asylum, archeological place, strange abandoned lab with notes all over the floor... And it's obvious the city was built by... ehm,... moles.

Yes. Moles!
And they've left their poo all over the place.
Small animals, big turds, like bowls. (bowels?)

It's been very quiet for some time, any news?
I must say I'm a little dissapointed with the result of our search in Bay City... somehow I expected to discover some more clues of Magellan than one photograph hanging on the wall... Maybe those mole people would know more about him? Has anybody tried to contact some of them?

I did a systematic search of Bay City and came up with nothing Magellan related, although I did find some of the storm drains quite by accident. I have a full account of my explore on my blog in the New Babbage Ning
