Incredible progress!!! I've examined those pictures fairly closely and imprinted the outline of his ship on my mind. If anyone sees Magellan's ship, it may well be worthy of friendly escort. Never know when sky pirates might be about, and they might spell trouble...

From: Ayumi Cassini Can we reconstruct the story? Jeska said she thinks Magellan was able to build a new ship while he was crashed at Gaeta... And it does seem it happened, looking at the photos. You know what it means - we shouldn't be exploring Gaeta, he left to discover new land! All leads go to Bay City, and although it seems he already left there, we might find some new clues, once it's open (this week!).
It seems like the ship which crashed on Gaeta, was Jessica sure they weren't taken before the crash? Anyway, it's great progress Is the city beneath the ship Bay City? And since he's using the word "we" in the notes under the photographs, seems there are more members of his crew...

Yes, Jeska is sure the campsite photo was first and that it's where Magellan started off from (she confirmed through IM). For me, it all makes sense. He crashed, made a camp, and started collecting pieces for his new ship - that's why he appeared every now and then in various parts of Gaeta. Once he built the ship, he left the camp. The new ship elements that appeared on the beach must have been simply thrown from water during high tide. Also, the new ship must look similar to the old one, since it's made of the parts of Magellan's old ship. From: someone Is the city beneath the ship Bay City?
It seems so. I haven't seen Bay City yet, but I assume the photos' titles are accurate. I just wonder which part of Bay City that is... From: Violet Faulds I IM'ed Magellan a few days ago asking him if he would please talk to us, and this morning I got a response (while I was off the grid, of course). Message follows:
"aargh the bees!"
I don't know what this means. Did he run into a hive of angry bees? I think that might be helpful once Bay City is open.

From: Natacha Chernov It seems like the ship which crashed on Gaeta, was Jessica sure they weren't taken before the crash? Anyway, it's great progress Is the city beneath the ship Bay City? And since he's using the word "we" in the notes under the photographs, seems there are more members of his crew... Field notes, Marianne McCann, age 5 1/2 (excerpt) "...read about some piccies. I examined them back at the base after school, and the best I c'n figure is that these hadda be taken before the crash. The engines match what's at the crash site, an the walkway inside the blimp matches with some of the other wreckage, especially within the makeshift tent. Even the tanks match what's at the crash site..." "... http://www.flickr.com/photos/jeskalinden/2421928062/in/set-72157604663110428/This piccie shows the tanks, including the one being reused as what looks to me a makeshift shower or someting. It also shoes the walkway... gangplank?... that makes up some of the tent. It also looks like some of what's below the water. http://www.flickr.com/photos/jeskalinden/2421928084/in/set-72157604663110428/These panels are no where to be found http://www.flickr.com/photos/jeskalinden/2424040180/in/set-72157604663110428/Here you c'n see two engines, but there's only one at the crash site. There's a pylon for attaching the other engine in the wreckage below the water, so clearly there was two -- but now only one..." "... http://www.flickr.com/photos/jeskalinden/2423227879/sizes/o/in/set-72157604663110428/ is a little rough, but it looks like there's a number in front of the engines, on the side. II wonder if this'll match the ones on the tent flap. I'll hafta ask my brother or someone to go with me to the crash site so I can poke around s'more. http://www.flickr.com/photos/jeskalinden/2432778522/in/set-72157604663110428/So he was exploring Bay City, which dun surprise me, given his previous explorations of Nova Albion. But it's a loong way between the two, an clearly someting happened to knock him way off course. He musta hit a heck of a squall. The comment on the' back of the piccie talks about bad weather, an the next one talks about not being able t' stay. I guess he mighta pushed a bit too hard to get goin... somewhere an did't pay enough attention to th' weather..." "... http://www.flickr.com/photos/jeskalinden/2432778654/in/set-72157604663110428/This might be the most important of the bunch. He labeled it as a deserted camp, an said he left some tings behind on it. Dis implies dat he's travelled on from there, prob'ly in some sorta craft made out of the parts that are missing from the campsite. This would tie into What Jeska said, an what Solomon was tinking too. I hafta assume dat Magellan has left dis camp behind, makbe moving over or around Gaeta to some other part of th' island? I dunno...: "...The view of the camp implies someting airborne, but it could jes be some camera trickery. My Aunty Carrie does tink one of them engines might make good boat parts, too..."

Wow! Great work, peoples!! I'm a little confused by the timing.. It seemed like airship pictures over Bay City should have been _before_ the ones at the camp site. For one, Bay City was discovered several months ago and the camp site is pretty recent. That and the whole thing with the airship being in one piece in the Bay City pictures and in several pieces at the camp site. I dunno - maybe LIER dropped him enough supples to rebuild (that'd be a _LOT_ of supplies) and the camp site pix really did come first. Finding that a little hard to buy but I guess it could be true. I peeked inside the camp site tent and it says "LL 1980". I can't quite make out the number in front of the engine is but it does look like it might match.

The advantages to airships are many... slow speed when needed for leisurely observation, steady camera platform, large cargo capacity (relatively speaking), no need for long or improved runways, etc.
On the downside, they are so at the mercy of weather it's not funny. Given some of the comments about the weather, and the latest campsite wreckage, I'd guess that proved the case here.
It looks like Magellan needs to find a happy medium between the incredibly swift but unstable rocket vehicles and the very slow and majestic but vulnerable airships.
Maybe an autogyro or something similar?

I'm a little confused by the timing.. It seemed like airship pictures over Bay City should have been _before_ the ones at the camp site. I believe they do. They certainly come in that order in the photostream -- the airship ones come before the camp ones. So I have to assume that Magellan was exploring Bay City first, then either accidently made his way to Gaeta (bad weather) or left Bay City on his way to Gaeta, and then crashed there.

Maybe an autogyro or something similar? It would seem, given his history with the HMS Malmute and "LL 0891," that perhaps he should try a boat, instead?

Well, a boat can't necessarily go all the places he might want to explore, Mari. Though maybe... a boat suspended from a blimp? That way, if he's forced down over water, he doesn't have to worry...

From: Argos Hawks Then shouldn't they already know how to fix some of the problems? They should at least be able to use the time machine to avoid releasing terribly worded blog announcements. I think it's notable that Jeff Linden used the phrase "escaped from the future." I wouldn't want to assume that Linden Lab MegaCorp, as a whole, is interested or willing to doctor with the past. It may even be that their existence DEPENDS on not interfering with it. It's also interesting that Jeff Linden no longer shows up in the People Search, much like Magellan. Perhaps that is a residual effect of temporal displacement?

The Void can't be completely empty; don't we travel through it when we Teleport?

Suddenly, that thought makes me want to echo Bones McCoy's sentiments about traveling via transporter: "Crazy way to travel, spreading a man's molecules all over the universe."

Maybe Magellen has been out there in the Void, existing as a disembodied string of particles... maybe he can't even remember being there...

From: Solomon Devoix None of them have turned up again, though, have they? Sorry if that brings up painful memories, Salazar. Not to my knowledge, no. Thanks. It has been encouraging to witness the reappearance of the rare item or structure in a newly gridded region, but so far I'm not aware of any people. There were rumors that mammoths were seen on the Heterocera Atoll right after it appeared and, in a similar way, dragons on the Southern Continent. The world is getting so large now it's hard to keep track of every new revelation. I'm sure there are things appearing that I will never know about. If this type of phenomena is occurring, I hold out hope that my dad and the rest of my family were not lost in the Erase, but either displaced or (strange as it is to think) disembodied/disintegrated somehow. If the latter... I hope that they haven't been aware of the intervening time and that there is a possibility of reintegration.

In a place like SL, where real-world physics don't always apply and *anything* can and does happen, there's always a chance. It could be that they ended up in some other world, and simply can't communicate with this one.
