I couldn't find this one, but I did find a clear glass bottle with the following message in... oh my aching heart...

Aww, poor HB... you're just a romantic at heart.

And a broken hearted on at that. But I shall soldier on, never fear... I shall bury myself in thoughts of what tonight's trip to Magellan's camp will bring!

I'm at the Magellan camp right now. It's definitelly a crash-site, there are remainings of an airship, built by Michael Linden - seems it was bigger than the one on the old crash-site. Huge part of the construction is on the shore under water, maybe it would be reasonable to search in the waters around Gaeta for some more clues?

"16 April 2008

Dearest Magellan,

I am searching for you on the new continent, and I hope you are all right. About the last time we met - it's all water under the bridge now. I hope you understand. Let us never mention it again. Please come back.

Your loving Os"

This is what the message says in the bottle, just touch it. Ya know earlier i was there before when there was only a campfire and these 2 peeps show up and the guy who i didnt recognize the name or remember since i didnt think it was to important at the time, set out the loose logs by the bottle with the message. Well check the creator and the owner on those ;) could he be in a disguise?? ;)

Field notes, Marianne McCann, age 5 1/2 (excerpts)

"Wow! Magellan was spotted, an in Gaeta!

As soon as I could, I rushed to th' site on my pony an took a look around.

http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/pic.aspx?id=270115

I did not see Magellan there at all, but it was clear he'd been there. It looked like a purty bare site when I visited - a campfire, some bottles strewn about, an a rough little dock. I did some poking around, even spotted a message in a bottle.

http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/pic.aspx?id=270107

The other bottles jes smelled like dat funny liquid my folks say I shouldn't drink 'til I'm 40 or someting..."

"...the site seemed different after only a half hour, though. Maybe I wasn't payin enough attention, but now there's some wreck stuff there, from an airship.

http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/pic.aspx?id=270113

Me an Cube an Meade an Osprey an Salazar an my brother an my sister an Amonim an some other peoples did come through an poke about a bit. Still did't see Magellan here, but the site is purty interesting on its own.

I wonder how he crashed. Did someting cause havok with his airship? It is a no flyin' area, so maybe dat caused him troubles. Then again, it does seem like the land is a bit unstable, too, and with the wreck at first not bein visible, I wonder if the area is some kinda bermuda thing, 'cept a different shape from a triangle..."

Sindy probably cheated to read what was printed on that prim. She's not an evil texture thief - not at all - but isn't beyond bending the rules a little when it comes to solving puzzles. I took a look at it and don't think the texture on the paper has anything to do with the story of Magellan.

Guy Linden flew by, too!

He didn't stop to say hi, though. :(

Dunno about the black square - haven't seen that yet! You don't mean a black square on the minimap, do you? I think the 'tower' in the water is part of the airship crash.

/me wonders what Magellans insurance bill is like. He seems to crash a lot of really expensive vehicles.

To be a little fair to Magellan, it's not like he's the only person in SL who has problems flying here, maybe no one has told him to reconfigure his aircraft controls to work with Havoc 4, he's probably still using Havoc 1 settings?

Not at all..

If you look at the bottle, you can see a piece of paper rolled up inside it. This paper is made from a couple prims. These prims, like all prims, have a texture on them. The flowers note that she mentioned a page or so back in this thread is what the texture on the paper says.

When I looked closely at paper in the bottle, I couldn't read the whole note - the way the prims are twisted up made it too difficult for me to read. There are other ways, ways that are not entirely kosher, to see what a texture really looks like without it being distorted by the shape of a prim. This is entirely separate from clicking on the bottle and getting a notecard.

Aww, it's okay HB, it just takes a special person to appreciate us hybrids. And I know of several special people who do. :)

/me hugs HB consolingly and offers a cookie.

Sounds like the note Osprey wrote to Magellan and stuck in the bottle might have been written on the back of another note? Maybe one that her brother, Oz, wrote that ended up at the Photography Studio in Grignano? That's her studio.

This telegram was written/sent last year on the 18th of October. The note Osprey wrote (on the back?) was written on the 16th of April this year. The original telegram may not have any bearing on present events.. but you never know. Who is Anchor Gascoigne?

Osprey, what has your brother been up to? Does he know Magellan?

That sounds like a most excellent and probable explanation. :)

I did hastily write the letter on the reverse of an old paper I found in my pocket. I hadn't even read it, actually. I'm not sure why it was so close to hand, but it has nothing to do with the current goings-on. I don't see Ozymandias very often and we aren't close any more (more his doing than mine) but as far as I know he doesn't know Magellan.

Ozymandias's friend Anchor was the recipient of the telegram. They have been pals for about twenty years, I think. Anchor lives somewhere on the mainland, and Oz is usually off somewhere, so he must've asked Anchor to do something he couldn't do himself. How the telegram wound up in my pocket - dunno, unless Anchor wore my coat one day (hard to imagine).

Another watch over with...
04-17-2008 14:48
... and still no Magellan sightings!

A few of us hung out at the camp tonight (tonight UK time - mid-afternoon, SL) but saw no Mag. Saw Dee and Guy Linden, but they hadn't seen him either. I passed on my info to Soft Linden and asked him to speak to Guy on out behalf... maybe he can find something out.

There is an odd 'shadow' that appears on the minimap but not the main map - a square roughly where the pier is. We thought that it may be a construct above us, but when I flew up (as high as 10,000m!) I found nothing. We thought that as the fly settings have been disabled over the cam, that this would be part of his "Follow me..." clue. Another dead end, it seems.

A frustrating night. I hope others have better luck tomorrow.

Strange happenings in Gaeta Camp site
04-17-2008 18:08
I went earlier this morning and saw the wreckage...and saw on the mini map the "box".

I don't know if my eyes are tricking me, but it seems the box has moved on the map slightly since this morning. And then when I was talking to SpykeMcCallister Kayvon I noticed that while the mini map and my radar detected only two people there were three people in the vicinity that were showing on the map.

Perhaps there is a secret chamber/lab/hidey hole there? I asked Magellan out loud if he was there. And then the third dot disappeared from the big map.

coincidence? conjecture?

/me goes to repair the wounds I received from HBA's pirahna. (i fell in getting the milk carton)
