From: Rhaorth Antonelli I use prolly because it is what I say in RL I rarely say probably, and prolly is so much easier to spell too
and same with puter, I rarely say computer... it is either puter or pc
sorry bren I will try to not use it when I chat No need. I'm over it. Actually I've probably done myself a disservice. I announced a weakness. I can think of several bastiges here who will exploit it at every turn.

From: 3Ring Binder "wrongly" is very very wrong. the correct word is "incorrectly". just sayin' I think incorrectly and wrongly are pretty much synonymous although wrongly can carry a bit of a connotation of moral wrongness.

I have an intense dislike of the word "hate", and try not to use it. I also use the word "Mac" rather than "'puter"

From: Bruise Shepherd I have an intense dislike of the word "hate", and try not to use it. True. It really has been overused and diluted. Kind of like outrage. News stories are always flashing headlines:"Outrage Over Kitty Litter Price Increase" or "Radio Host's Farts Spark Outrage". I hate that.

What actually annoys me is people who complain about other peoples grammar, it's so anal this is a forum it’s not the boardroom.
Grammar, honesty who really cares…………..isn’t it about communication more than anything else.

In the context of the forums here, perhaps you have a point. In a much broader sense, the whole of the Internet, where children and young adults are increasingly picking up extraordinarily bad habits, I think there really is an issue there worthy of consideration. Granted, the Second Life forums are probably not the most ideal place to discuss it. But I didn't much feel like working today. From: Kaimi Kyomoon I think incorrectly and wrongly are pretty much synonymous although wrongly can carry a bit of a connotation of moral wrongness. it definitely relates to justice and morality, and should be used in that regard. the title of the thread uses it incorrectly also.... but since Phil wanted to depict truth and facts, it makes the allowance... in other words, it's acceptable in that use.

Yeah, in 50 years everyone is going to be talking all that gibberish from "Blade Runner" that Edward James Olmos spoke/spake/speaked/said.

From: Brenda Connolly I heard Asshat in RL from a friend in Australia years ago, I've always loved it. I hate to admit, but seeing 'prolly' and 'puter' instead of computer makes my teeth grate. Please don't hate me....but in the end I've learned just to accept it all, as long as I can understand the message. But my hatred for chat speak will never go away. I started typing "puter" rather than "computer" here on the forums and in chat just with my recent computer death - but mostly that is because to me saying "puter" goes better with my pouty unhappy face. Edited to fix some problem with these darn quotes.

From: Bruise Shepherd I have an intense dislike of the word "hate", and try not to use it. I knew someone in SL who was so against the word "hate" that she couldn't even say that she hated what Hitler did. I can go along with not hating people but, imo, it's good to hate some of the things that people do.

Just sayin... I just think sometimes people worry more about the grammar than the context of the post. My grammar isn't always perfect, I try to make it legible. In the most part I'm just interested in what the person has to say. The only time it's annoying is when people use a lot of text speak, that to me is more annoying than incorrect grammar.

Grammar, honesty who really cares…………..isn’t it about communication more than anything else. Phil? Don't look at me. The only bad grammar that I dislike a lot is the failure to use full stop (periods). It often makes things difficult to follow.

Grammar, honesty who really cares…………..isn’t it about communication more than anything else. If you want people to take you seriously and you want them to understand what you're saying, proper grammar and concise wording will help you in the long run- especially in an international environment like this where many people speak English as a second, third, or fourth language. If you're a native English speaker who doesn't mind looking foolish to your peers, or you don't care that people may simply gloss over your posts because they're too difficult to parse (or just worded too poorly to take seriously), well then go ahead and confuse/omit punctuation to your heart's content. Aside from the above, I actually see language as a self-respect issue. Our thoughts and memories are verbally-encoded. If you don't understand your own language- and especially if you have a limited vocabulary- your brain isn't organized as efficiently as that of someone who does. The thought of so many heads out there full of misspelled thoughts and misunderstood phrases just plain makes me sad.
