Should LL employees enable griefers?

I know there will be a lot of people who don't care, or wish to deride this post. However, I believe there are some things which simply can't be ignored or let to stand.

The story so far:

During this Year's Second Life Community Convention, A bus full of members of the Woodbury Univerity group in SL stopped by Linden Lab's headquarters. While there, they placed a lot of graffitti on the walls of the building, using chalk. Among those graffitti, was the statement "Ban Prok". Many have stated that LL gave the approval for this to happen. However, as time has worn on, two interesting facts have emerged.

1) it was a Linden who actually wrote those words, not one of the members of Woodbury.
2) as Phillip states in his letter to Prokofy, he did *not* give anyone permission to put graffitti on their building, and does not believe such statements are okay for a Linden to be promoting.

Now, at the same time, a mystery Linden starts popping up on Prokofy's land, basicallly acting as 'backup' for several known griefers to continue their harassment of Prokofy. You can read the chat log and see the pictures here:

So the question is simple. Forget this is Prokofy, forget all the grudges, forget all the stupidity.

Do you think it's right for a representative of LL to be targeting a resident and promoting harassment against said resident?

no, and has it been firmly established that it was a linden? or a hack?

either way, anyone who is supposed to be a representative of a company should never get involved in vandalism. if anything they should have been policing it. i truly hope that whoever that linden was, they were terminated.

If you're going to point to three posts from Prok's blog, I think this discussion should be confined to media where Prok can respond, in his own name, to make his case. Since he's banned here, it's a remarkably ill-chosen place to discuss those blog posts.

As to your question, of course no one thinks Lindens should aid griefers. Nor do I feel that your posting gives me enough information to know that they are. Nor am I going to go looking for more information.

On the other hand, if you're looking to get more folks from this board to enter the fray on Prok's blog, good job! But it ain't workin for me.

No, and if a Linden was actually involved and the identity of the Linden involved is known they should be dealt with by Linden Lab.

Facts? I guess I could accept that #2 is a fact if in fact Prok quoted him correctly. Where is the proof that #1 is a fact?

I am not a fan of Prok's, which can be evident in reading the archive... but I do not believe that even Prok deserves to be targeted for griefing.

If there is the remote chance this is true, I hope LL does investigate, finds out if it is true and if it is, punishes the Linden involved.

Staying completely away from this topic in a forum where relevant parties can't defend, and where I can't call it like I see it without naming names.

Not banned - I have no idea why anyone assumes that.

Some employees at Linden Lab still think they are in Beta and can do as they please. My cable company wouldn't do this to me so why does this utility company do it?

People assume Prok's banned because in one of the old iterations of the forums, they were. It could also just be limited to RA?

Don't nip pick. Lindens were there and participated. Lindens saw the graffiti. It is not funny if the person's name on the wall is not in on the joke.

Prok can post in classified and in Events, but last time I checked (admittedly over a year ago), was not able to post in Resident Answers.

While the idea of real life griefing using chalk to write silly things sounds like a fun idea, what was actually written was not funny at all.

It is not right no matter who it is, if it happened. Unfortunately that hasn't been proven here, and in any event, this is not the place to discuss it in my opinion.

Hmm.. put in perspective..

If someone did a chalk graffiti saying "Ban Raudf Fox!!" or some equally silly thing, I'd demand pictures, shrug and laugh about it for months to come. I might post something like, "Wow, I mean something to someone!" or "I just can't believe how bored these folks are!" But beyond that, it's one good rainfall or swipe with a water hose and it's gone.

They chose Prok because they knew Prok would have a screaming fit about it. And that's what griefers get off on, getting the glory, the attention for their "pranks."



I stand by my earlier about the in world griefing if it is true. If I saw a Linden just standing idly by, or worse, encouraging the griefing, then yeah, I'd pitch a fit. I mean, it's hard enough to get find a Linden to actually HELP sometimes..

I don't think anyone would care a lot if it were one incident, or two - but it has been years of really deliberate and hateful griefing directed at one person.

It's astonishing how often this very basic rule for dealing with trolls/griefers is ignored.

This is very true in theory, but I think for some people speaking out is part of their persona.

Also, if once you say anything, after that the efforts will be increased to get a reaction - so it may be that once the threshold has been crossed the irresistible force meets the immovable object, if that's the personality type.

In my family, my older sister is very much an immovable object. If someone said, "Keep quiet about X for your own good." she'd say, "Why should I?" and continue to do exactly as she saw fit. She'd be in the right, however most people would rather do what was in their best interest.

I actually think this is what they call "lulz".

For those saying this isn't the place to discuss, I respectfully disagree. I said forget it's Prok. The issue at hand is the behavior of people employed by Linden Lab actively engaging in activities which are personal attacks against people they don't like. This is just the latest example.

If this is the wrong place for discussing the thoughts of the customers of Linden lab about the professional behavior of Lindens, I'm very perplexed. I think this is exactly the place it should be discussed.

And should I give more examples of this type of behavior, against other residents? Would that make the intent of the thread more clear?
