What I'm saying is that it is not cause to go after a person in real life, or their real job. Based upon speculation.
Or their prim chickens.

Do you think it's right for a representative of LL to be targeting a resident and promoting harassment against said resident?

This is a logical error known as a loaded question btw.

That graffiti sucks anyway.

THIS is graffiti:

Even LL's graffiti is amateurish.

All LL work is pretty much amateurish. Best work is done from people who aren't part of LL company. That starts with the any visual work of any creation and dosn't end with server coding or client coding.

Its the community that makes things better or worst.

Lias, my friend! Let's try sticking to some facts, k?

The chalk incident poo-pooed by Linden Lab

Nobody poo-pooed it from what I can tell. Phillip apologized in a really nice letter which was rewarded with an epic rant in return. I couldn't bring myself to read most of it.

enabling the mob to single out one resident

Who enabled anyone to do that? Why would LL want graffiti on their building?

From: Lias Leandros
promote the mail clerk to Community Manager you cannot hope for much professional insight from them

If you are talking about who I think you are talking about, that is actually not even remotely true.

Remember: Water dissolves chalk.

Is anyone claiming that it hasn't been cleaned up?

Yes, it is a logical error. But rhetorically, it's fair game, and often very effective. As in this instance.

Rhetoric IS dirty! It's the art of persuasion. By ANY means necessary. And it works.

Unlike some gadflys (you listening, Pep?) Prok actually has something cogent to say about real issues...and is obviously motivated by a deep belief in virtual worlds.
I am a very good listener.

Pep (Did you say something about "real issues" and "virtual worlds" in the same sentence? ROFLMAO! :D )

You want to say dirty rhetoric is the art of persuasion?

In RL you have to, like, be married to someone or be stalked by a specific person before having that person just standing near you to be treated as harassment.
Could be threatening behaviour, contrary to Section 5 of the Public Order Act 1967, at least if all this were happening in the UK rather than SL.

Whether just standing next to the person was likely to cause them harassment, alarm or distress, would be a factual question for the court to decide, as would the defendant's intentions at the time, but if a group of people happen know that -- for example -- some local eccentric gets freaked out by people standing next to him wearing Man United shirts, and then, for the fun of getting a rise out of him, individual group members make a point of doing just that, then the law will step in to protect him, even though the individual concerned might not have done it before.

It would be up to the court to assess what was going on in a particular set of circumstances, but the law -- at least in the UK -- tries to protect even people who might seem to most of us rather over-sensitive and unreasonable from deliberate harassment and provocation.

I gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you here. You would have to have a complete lack of ethics to persuade by any means necessary.

Are you mixing up rhetoric up with oratory?

No, I don't think so. Rhetoric, in the Ciceronian sense. Although, maybe post-Ramist, given the implied separation of rhetoric and logic . . .

/me ponders ponderously . . .

She should use all the land tools at her disposal against the offending group - ban, mute, disable scripts, disable object entry. disable push, autoreturn etc

You can't ban Lindens. This is is why this has been brought up. What is one to do when the griefers are people of authority who are in fact supposed to be the ones to protect you?

I haven't heard or seen anything about this. I remember being asked by someone whether it would be OK to come by to visit the office with a bus, and I said it sounded fine but that going into the LL office wouldn't work because we couldn't give tours, etc. Not really sure why anyone would even bother to ask - it's a public street. I certainly didn't approve graphitti (or hear any mention of it). From this picture it looks like chalk - at least I certainly hope so! It would never be OK for a Linden to write something like 'Ban Prok', or for that matter anything desparaging about a resident. I wasn't there so have no idea whether any Lindens were there at the time.
I know NOTHING!

There were Linden employees on the party bus. If you goto the SLCC flikr pictures you see folks in writing thanking the Lindens that were with them on the bus (probably sanitized at this point). Those LL staff members should have not allowed the Prok thing to be written - or should have thrown their beer on it as soon as it was written.

And yes, this had devolved into a discussion of the person, and not of the issue. Back on page 3 or 4 when I mentioned I wanted to close the thread, I did report it. As you see, so far LL has failed to carry out my wish that it be closed.

Just more griefing on their part.

That's the problem, the person IS the issue!

I know now and then i can be really hateful but prok radiate of hate against anybody and anyone that is sticking out of the mass, wether you're young, old, small or tall , if you have an opinion and voice it openly she will gets her rant on you.

Anybody like her living in an autonomous village community would be exiled very quickly.

Although that made me LOL, you missed the part where he said he left on a camping trip right after the event. It is plausible that he knew nothing of this.

I beg to differ. A quote from his unresume: "...over 15 years of experience participating in and managing online communities, from dial-up BBSes to popular forums to Second Life..." This is in addition to being a generally awesome, multi-talented and wonderful person.

I don't have a link to this and didn't see it in the original post. Are there actual pics of Lindens standing there while people wrote this?
