ResMod Recruiting: Volunteers Wanted

Okay, I was thinking maybe you had finally snapped lol.

realize you've been BUSY =), but could we get a progress update? even a "no progress to report" would be nice.

I've asked for another status update, I'm going to give it a few days. So far the names have been passed along to Everett Linden. If I don't see some movement I'll be giving LL a call.

Are you able to share the names you sent? I did volunteer and am just curious if I was put forward. PM me if you can't share publicly.

I'd rather not share that information at all, it's an invitation for drama. Unless LL takes action it's all for naught anyway. Frankly speaking there is a type of person who no matter how you explain to them they will not accept a judgment. If I explained to every person I didn't recommend I would come across a few. I don't need to go looking for trouble.

I don't want people saying "I'm better then them, why didn't I get recommended?" Jealously is a terrible poison, can turn a productive community member rotten.

Confirming or denying recommendation status would rock the boat.

Thanks for the status update, Strife. Hope LL makes the time to anoint a pal or three for you!

I imagine there will be some resettling, and lots of loud complaints, if/when new resmods are knighted, as peole get used to increased mod presence, and new styles are developed/experienced... might be a bumpy ride for a bit.

I'll make oe prediction though. mod haters will be vocal either way, either rejoicing and calling for strife to be axed too, or complaining loudly how LL is ruining 'their' forums, by letting 'these people'(mods) 'run amok' =)

UPDATE: Here's whats going on, LL is looking for a new Community Manager. The decision as to what to do with the forums is stalled until one is hired.


We have seen the game played before too, but if they directly attack the moderators they will be subject to the Private Discussion guidelines, if not they will be subject to the Flaming/Trolling guidelines. It's how the old guard got banned, they kept pressing the issue and worked their way up the punishment ladder.

Since I know I'll never make resmod here - couldn't pay me enough - I'll pass on the high road this time and call you a whiny little bitch, mal. Over and over and over and over you go on about how somebody was mean to you and you do it in the most insulting ways. You're far, far worse than Strife is.

Mal, may I make a suggestion to you?, or rather present an idea?

not everyone believes as you do. some believe that these forums are both useful and worth supporting. and they do so in various ways, answering other residents questions, directing them to information, warning them about problems and policies, even helping moderate. attempting to belittle people for supporting what they belive in will not sway them, nor does it make you look any more enlightened. in fact it makes your arguments seem to come from personal motivation, and people will get the impression that you've a chip on your shoulder the size of Gibraltar.

if you really want to forward your opinion, you have 2 great options available
1) state your case without all the vitriol, use clear concise and relevant examples and comparisons, and logically counter the points of view that you feel conflict with yours. otherwise people will get a negative impression of you over time, and write you off

2) if, as you have said before, you believe these forums have outlived their usefulness, vote with your fingers, find another place that you do believe is useful (or even create one) and spend your time improving that community and giving others a viable alternative. if enough quality people leave here, it will die a natural death of disuse. Continuing here only feeds the beast you hope will die, is that really your aim?

As usual, Linden Lab is overexpecting the requirements for application.

If it wasn't for the fact it was located in San Francisco, and the fact I speak plain english (I see a degree in BS is required) I could quite happily cope with that position and do it well.

Such a pity that a progressive company like Linden Lab won't break the mould, and instead recruit people based on their suitability for the position and experience in the field, rather than a worthless educational qualification.

I dunno i put him on ignore awhile back because i found him a bit umm overboard in the insulting category. I dont enjoy being called a name every other sentance. I dont consider that much other then abusive. If its your thing to be rebusive and refer to peopel as tards and troll em into oblivion to the point they just ignore you then I guess he succeeded, but that may not be umm part of the shall we say TOS. Being rude is being rude if you meant it or not is irrelevant in my opinion. Its like going out and "playing evil" and then someone coming and tell you they hate you and then the person who did such a good job at playing evil is offended cause he actualy came across that way..

If he wants to play this game then fine but he's gonna get dinged cause well it can get pretty abusive at times.

And yes right now you could not pay me to do this job. Its people like this guy that make the job a test of will. Its not realy roleplay its not theatrics in an appropriate setting and at the right time its just a guy making a ton of noise in every way he can to derail threads to the point of insanity. There is a time and place for roleplaying and in a thread where someone is trying to recruit for something is not it. Its entirely inappropriate and not particularly smart, but I dont think smart or wise or intelligent is what he is after he is after being banned from the game. WhY? i don't know he can just leave but this is so much more entertaining for him/her I suppose seeing the ulitmate goal must be to not play the thing.

It only really show this guy personality wise even though he is making a very bad attempt at RP is about nothing more then his own personal fun factor and to heck with what anyone else wants or respecting of peers or other gamers. Its just about his fun and self fulfilment nothing more.

I'm so glad I'm not strife when I see people like this because I have no idea how I would deal with it other the picking up the phone and getting on my hands and knees asking them to permanently remove him from the boards so people can talk without being perpetually trolled when he becomes "Unbanned"

1. I really don't believe you have any business whatsoever making snarky comments like this about other residents, regardless of how you may feel about them, or how many others you are relying on to agree with you.

Not only is it against TOS to make personal attacks, but as resmod, it would seem you should be setting a higher standard, not a lower one.

And I don't care WHO you're talking about. It quite offends me to hear you talk about ANY other resident this way.

I also don't think you have any business putting down a whole other forums. That, too, is behavior most unbefitting a resmod.

It's not your place to take your position and use it to signal which residents or which forums don't require respectful treatment, regardless of what they have said or what you think of them.

That is an abuse of power.

I'd AR you for it these comments, but the AR's would only go to you. You would no doubt pass that on to the Lindens, in the interest of fairness, but they would, of course, entirely ignore it, just as they apparently ignore any AR's anyone has ever made about you, if any have been made.

2. In addition, if I have understood this correctly - people will NOT be applying to LL for position as resmod for the official SL forums.

People will be in fact applying to YOU, and you will be choosing which applications YOU want to pass on.

I used to think you were sincere about the future of the forums, and about having our best interests in mind. But no one who is would hog the applications to himself, and pass on only those he wishes.

Offering your opinion when asked is one thing, but if you are the gatekeeper of this, deciding whose applications will be passed on and whose won't, that is power most ill-befitting someone who is, after all, just another resident.

If a resident wants to be a resmod, they should be ASSURED that their application WILL be seen by a Linden.

Are you a Linden?

Besides, maybe some people would like resmods who are different from you, which would offer a better balance - not just more who are enough like you that you would choose them yourself.
