LL is considering adding new ResMods. Anyone who volunteers will be considered.

First take a look at:
/invalid_link.html

History:
/3/9a/82210/1.html
/3/82/85543/1.html

We are looking for people with good communication skills and a tough skin. They have to be self motivated but not power hungry. They need to be fair and balanced. They need to have a clean Abuse History in SL. They need to have been an active forum member for the last 6 months. A clean forum history is preferable but minor mishaps will be overlooked. They will be given a trial period of 1 to 6 months.

I expect LL to take on 4 to 6 new ResMods. I want to recommend 8 people.

I'd like to help out, and I've moderated other forums in the past, but I'm afraid I may be a little *too* active in RA... :(

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

A question for clarification, as I haven't been around when the original system was in use: Will it still be rotating as the two links you gave state? And does that mean one wouldn't have to be online *all* the time? I have been a moderator in two forums that didn't have any rotation system and ended up being drowned in work, but I would apply if rotation meant I'd get some time off in between. Then again I'm not sure if I would qualify at all beacuse I, too, have been guilty to making some off topic posts....

Still, I'd love to volunteer and help out to make the cabbit have more free time in the future! ;)

Edit: I am also bilingual German-English, so I could offer moderating on the German-language forums.

I'll volunteer since I essentially know the policies inside and out from looking at Strife do his job not to mention having read the material on the forum rules and a few times. I also have quite think skin when it comes to not taking forum attacks personally.

I wish to volunteer as well. I read the forums multiple time a day, and wish that the forums remain a useful resource for all users.

Was this just a poor turn of phrase or is LL merely considering it to possibly, maybe decide after applications are in?

I'm of two minds because - Thor knows - Strife could sure use a some assistance, but given LL's abysmal support of the forums and the "community" generally I think LL deserves volunteer assistance in kind.

Actually, the more I think about LL asking their devoted volunteer to solicit more volunteers for them, the more disgust I feel. Sorry.

This is wonderful news. I care deeply about the content creation forums and love to give back and help in the scripting forum helping new scripters. LL would not be considering taking on new resmods if they were going to close the forums.

As much as I would like to help take some of the load off of Strife(who does a wonderful job), I could not apply as things are presently. There is content and tips here that needs to be opened to all residents, no matter their pay status. LL opened registration to all people to give access to everyone, no matter what part of the world they reside in. Yet they keep the forum closed for some strange reason with no logic that I can comprehend. Allow every SL resident to log into the forums and learn with read access only but allow posting or answering of threads to those with payment info. It might even encourage more to become verifed residents.

If LL can do this then I would be more then happy to help out here.

To clarify how this came about: I was discussing forum moderation with Iridium, and when we came to the topic of new ResMods she said she would consider anyone I recommended. They are not infact asked me to solicit for volunteers. I couldn't think of anyone at the time who I knew would accept.

That said, we also talked about closing the forums; the forums require constant maintenance from both LR and ResMods.

I referenced those two threads above so people could get an idea of the requirements, currently there is no rotation setup but if LL approves enough ResMods to allow for a rotation system, there is no reason we couldn't do one.

The requirements boil down to this:
Will you do good things with the ResMod powers?

I would volunteer; Draco knows I have qualifications, but I would have to immediately turn right around and ban myself so that I could get actually get work done rather than sit in and nanny the forums all day. :P

I'm interested. :)

I've always liked the official forums, and don't want to see them die.

Relevant experience :
1) I had a bunch of sticky FAQ/howto topics I wrote which have since been moved to the Library on the Volunteer Portal (http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Volunteer_Portal) so that others may contribute more freely. :) This demonstrates I can write useful content for the SL forums.
2) I have extensive forum moderator experience. I currently own a private 85,500+ post vBulletin-based forum which I have been running for a few years. I even ran a sub-forum on forums.secondlife.com for one of my large (approx. 2000 member) SL groups. I have also run several other forums in my time, including one on web hosting services. This demonstrates I have experience as a moderator and am capable of working with the other mods as needed to resolve issues.
3) I have a strong desire not to see the official forums go away. I really miss the general forum on here. I know it isn't coming back, but still, it would be great to keep what is here alive. If the contributions of RMs make it more likely this forum will stay, I'll happily step up to the plate.

The aspects of RM work I think I would enjoy most are are :
1) Linking threads in the feature suggestions forum to related JIRA/FVT proposals and other forum threads which talk about the same issue.
2) Merging threads in the resident answers forum which address the exact same question.

In general I think of myself more as a linker (someone who helps connect different people/ideas so that they may be more effective) than a moderator, but I am also happy to close/LR threads which are on the wrong side of the rules in the forums to which I am assigned.

If it's needed, I am in. I'm good expecially in merging duplicate threads and weed out the mess on old ones so that useful info can be found with the search, more easily.

Been a moderator and admin for quite a few forums, over the years. I am Italian and I think my English is pretty good, but what do I know... :D

Being admin means work and having to, like, think and stuff... Though I'm not going to volunteer for this, I would if you had a hard time finding people you're comfortable recommending (and, of course, if you don't think I'm a total idiot).

I think more (forums) is less (work). I still like the idea from just before Linden Answers was closed about a resident-triage forum, similar to Resident Answers, where other residents could take a stab at answering questions or resolving problems and threads would only get moved to Linden Answers once the ResMod(s) decide it needed LL attention.. Also still like the idea (WEB-224) of having a forum for discussing specific JIRA issues.

I didn't realize we had so many folks with moderation experience. It would help me if I knew which forums you moderated so I could see you in action. You don't have to post the url in public, a PM will suffice. If I recommend you to LL I will be passing it along to them but otherwise it will remain confidential.

Mods and Rockers? lets go to Brighton, i understand there is a great new place for a party.:)

maintaining an area of UK law is integral to my RL.. so i will not be offering assistance.. when i get home, and am not on call i switch off that part of me totally.

i would be really sad to loose the forums though.. certainly it would be another nail in the coffin.

I'd seriously consider this but then wouldn't feel like I could really share in some of the good discussions and debates. I'm hoping some of my favorites on here consider this as well and choose not to volunteer.

I'm interested, however I have no prior forum mod experience and am less than a year in-game, so completely understand if I don't hear back about this. I'm articulate and of course *I* think I have reasonable judgement.

I also want to back up Jesse's point above about permitting all residents to read the forums, while agreeing with current policy that only "payment info" residents should be able to post.

Because SL enables its players to create so much of its content, I think SL's forums help an unusually high percentage of participants - higher than most product forums. SL's forums significantly augment LL's support infrastructure. (The "tips" forums in particular can accelerate a new user's path to content creation, and therefore help with retention). I'm sure it's received wisdom in all internet companies that hosting forums is a losing proposition, but I truly do believe that LL is missing a bet.

I think a bold marketing organization could position the fora correctly to the userbase while avoiding liability issues, and also find a way to use examples of successful forum interactions in promoting Second Life.

In counseling noobs, I always say that friends are the fastest way to learn SL. In the forums, we all have an unusually well-informed group of "friends".

Hiya, Just adding me name to the list of residents who'd like to volunteer, I am on the forums pretty much everyday and nite (australian time), I've moderated at sl-forums (now closed) and currently moderate at another, I believe I am abuse report clean (atleast I hope I am lol) and have not been involved in any prior forum drama (that I can remember) and have been a secondlife resident for nearly 2 years.

Feel free to PM me if you'd like any more info ect
