From: Hamlet Linden > the potential for gaming the scoring system
The question is, what would be gained by attempting to game the system? There's no L$ or US$ payout from Linden Lab at stake. The only prize to be won is the L$ earned by other Residents during the Expo, promotion of the game during the Expo, and for the top games, 1/4 of a sim for a year for free-- with the stipulation that they must keep the game running on that land throughout the year. There's little incentive to game the system, except perhaps for developers who are genuinely serious about creating a popular and successful game in SL. Well, sure, I guess that makes sense.

On-A-Roll
02-03-2006 18:48
I'd also like to nominate On A Roll by Karsten Rutledge: a really addictive dice game of strategy that combines random Yahtzee-like elements with the strategy of advanced Tic Tac Toe, Connect 4, or Pente type games, and it also throws in the opportunity for team play.

From: Ashlynne Poole SLictionary by Salem Penguin! I second that nomination. Or third it, or forth it... Whatever the case may be. SLictionary has one of my votes.

From: DeniseUnicorn Toonie I nominate Rifkin Habsburg's game called "Danger Zone".
It's a game where you can ether stay or run at the right time to get the most gems possable. Each roll will give you gems or a danger. If that danger comes up a second time, everyone left in the round dies. From: Chromal Brodsky I second this nomination! Belated third. It has shiny gems.

I nominate Boogie Board, by Hox Hauptmann.
It's a relatively new game, 5x5 grid, increasing difficulty levels, make words to use up the required number of letters to progress to the next level.
Half of each pay to play payment goes towards the jackpot. Jackpot's payed out at midnight SLT.

I would like to Nominate SLictionary by Salem Penquin
02-04-2006 06:31
I would like to nominate Salem Penquins SLictionary for several reasons. After playing the game last night with friends, not only was it fun and very addictive but it seems Salem (as he seems to do with all his game designs) once again has topped himself and given us a game that is a great fit within the SL world. Game design requires thinking beyond the eye candy and Salem has done it here. But still delivered with a game that is fun to watch as well as participate. You have just as much fun watching others play it too. It brings out the creativeness in the people trying to build as well. It involves the players in a fun way, it isn't script heavy with tons of scripts running taking CPU time away from the people trying to play the game. The less processing power your game takes the more that is left for the number of people around to play it and have fun playing without added lag stealing processes in the game. It involves the players skills both in guessing (which is fun) and building (which is an art). The more you play the better you get and the more you learn about how people build things and express themsevles through their own building skills. You laugh and have fun, while learning and interacting. It's perfect! There are so many things right about this game and its fit within the SL framework I had to vote for this one Salem has taken a simple concept and applied it to SL in a really fun way relative to the environment. There is nothing simple about how he has implemented it however. Very well thought out and coded. As a former speaker at the Games Developer Conferemce myself and publisher of games in the retail market this one really got my attention, and well designed in my view - Corbie

SLictionary
02-04-2006 07:27
the game of SLictionary that Salem has done is wonderfully made. The crafting skills of the players are either easy builds, or hard builds which makes it very easy for anyone to play. Another good aspect I found with this game is, even if you don't know how to build well, it will hone your imagination and your building skills as you play. Salem has put alot of work in all the game designs he does, but this one is TOP DOG. WTG Salem. The game is as much fun to play, and just as much fun to watch and try to guess the shapes of the builder Plus it is a very good way to interact with the other players as a social ground A great balance Majickgirl Scholten

Nominating
02-04-2006 11:38
I am introducing for nominations, my Team, Ninvair Productions. We will be making at least two different types of games.. which is why I am going by our team name rather than a game name. The first of these will be a card gaming system, and the second will be our own war idea. They will all fit into 1/4 of a sim. We also have other ideas and I am trying to establish teams to get them all organized.
Yeah, I'd hate to be a crasher of parties, since I know that a card thing had been selected, as had a war game. I'm not sure what the ideas of either one are, and that will be great, as we're sure to have some variety. Other than that, I do have to apologize for seeming unoriginal, but these were the first ideas that came into my mind.
Okay. So.. other than that, I am nominating Ninvair Productions and the Second Life Boxing League.
