i live in the united states (in the midwest) and can can drive an hour to the casino and gamble legally. how is that illegal?

Because the government has licensed and regulated a particular company or entity to engage in this otherwise illegal activity.

In this way things like payouts, percentages, etc, can be carefully monitored and regulated so that the casino is not simply ripping people off UTTERLY.

In SL, obviously, there is no govenment therefore no such oversight, regulation, or monitoring. Casino owners could scam their patrons to their hearts content without worry of any consequence. Because there are new suckers born ever minute. *chuckles*

But, well, they can't now, 'cause gambling is not allowed in SL. So, good riddance to a very distasteful segment of the SL community. Not as bad as the "sexual age play" segment, but pretty damned sleezy in their own right: casino owners.

Months back they told casinos they couldn't advertise their services in the LL's classifieds, which spoke volumes for where the policy was going to anyone with half a brain or more.

"Absolutely no warning" is bogus, there was plenty warning. It was coming, you could tell it was coming, it was inevitable it was coming. Casino gambling, especially without a license or any government regulation, is illegal in the U.S.A. and in most nations. This shouldn't be a big shock to ANYONE.

Illegal or not, why should all be told what and what not to do if this is the law in some US states then why don`t LL move to a country that is relaxed on the laws the states have, it wont stop there with this law .... next to go will be escorts, then nude avs, then sex balls, then it will be a very boring place to be, LL may as well merge the teen grid with the adult grid cos what will be the point, so much for the US freedom of speech etc like wise to the world is your imagination (it wont be cos i cant do what i like to do :( )
