I don't know if I'm better or worse off than the other posters. I've downloaded the new viewer, but it doesn't even load on my Mac. I have to force quit. Have rebooted, reinstalled, and reconsidered whether I had time for all this...to no avail.

Judging from the other posters, however, maybe getting on with this version is more hindrance than help. At least I haven't lost my inventory..I don't think.

Camera control borked (again)
10-19-2008 08:07
I noticed the following: with all 1.21 RC's I had no problem with the camera controls whatsoever, but with this final version it is impossible to control the camera at longer distances, it keeps swaying in undesired ways. Strange is that it is exactly like with the previous version 1.20: no problem with the RC's, but as soon as the 'final' version came, the camera was out of control. I hope this can be fixed / reversed. It is really annoying

that is because your settings on the main viewer to the RC are different, try setting them up the same and that should fix the uncontrolled swaying

Dang, I was hoping the 1.21 release would be a required upgrade so that I could depend on the llGetAgentLanguage function to respond with the agent's primary language for use in my translator. OH well, great work guys on getting MONO support out there and the prim touch updates! Keep up the good work, and I know the bugs will melt away as time goes on and they are worked out! :)

This Latest Update is BAD!!!
10-19-2008 19:59
I have HUGE problems with latest update, so bad that I haven't been able to play since using it. My LAG is so bad that I have to wait 5 mins. for my region to load and sign me in, then wait 20 mins. just to see some of what is loading. Once it loads as far as it's going to get, I can only see half of what's going on and I can't move at all and talk to anyone is soooo slow. This latest version is just horrible. Some of my friends are having the same issues, but if you don't pay it seems like you can't complain. Well, when first started playing I was telling everyone about it and getting all my friends on (some even pay), but now I can't tell anyone to join with these issues.

Even if it is just some of the people who have massive LAG time, I would think it would still be a concern. If you have problems with your voicemail (and even if it is only a couple of people) the company will do anything to track down the problem to fix it. Why shouldn't the same principles apply here. I really hope someone works on this issue and tracks down the problem and creates a fix.

Thank you.

Hm, no problems here. The new viewer seems a bit slower but no crashes or other major bugs.

Whenever I install a new SL, I first delete everything from the older viewer using CCleaner: http://www.ccleaner.com/ (free). Use the registry option. I didn't do that before and had some probs back then. Now I don't have problems since a long time.

Windows Vista - Nvidia Geforce 8600GT.

I cannot even think of the words to express how frustrated I am. Ever since this new update, I cannot:

1) Teleport,
2) Go into appearance mode,
3) Open my build menu,
4) Take snapshots,
5) Turn too fast,
6) Alt-cam on things.

If I do any of of the above, there's a 50/50 chance that I'll crash. I haven't had any problems like this with SL in over a year. I crashed four times while trying to edit my shape enough to fit a skin, then after another five crashes trying to edit my hair I've given up. I think I'm going to go back to the old version, because this is... this is unreasonable. I'm almost in tears. I've had more than a dozen crashes in the last two hours. I'm a fashion blogger, and a builder, and I NEED to be able to do the above things.

If anyone knows a way to get around this crap, please tell me. I dunno what to do. :( I'm runningL

Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2
Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2180 @ 2.00GHz
2 GB of RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT.

I feel your pain. Building has become nearly rediculous. Opening the texture window and then clicking the texture to open the texture selector is now taking up to 30 seconds to display, with a high crash-rate if it takes too long. changes made in edit mode are "snapping back" in odd ways. ctrl-z now has an odd behavior if the change affects the primary prim. Compiling our primfire scripts to mono makes the script which normally runs at .1 jump to .75.

I can barely get 12 fps anymore even when dropping all the graphics settings to rediculous levels. Land seems to appear last, after objects, instead of being grey like it used to, and to disappear completely for periods of time while rotating. Starting SL takes up to a minute before I can even hit connect. Actually connecting once I've hit it can take another minute.

As to the new server, I had never even seen the random disconnect dialog box on any of my islands before mono was released, now i see it daily.

Seriously people, you are drowning us in new glitz. I would prefer to deal with the the increased crash-rates of the pre-voice/windlight viewer then this slow, nearly unusable client. My inworld time has dropped by at least 3/4 as a result of this and other policy shifts that have simply taken the fun and profit out of it. ugh.

Boycott oblong sculpties!
10-20-2008 02:52
https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-9384

There are known inconsistencies with the original sculpties which were noticed with the first RC for this release.

Most of the sculptie tools makers and many top sculpties designers voted for this and believed that it should have been done before oblong sculpties were moved to the main client.

As this patch hasn't been applied, it is now possible to make sculpties that will work differently when the patch is applied. This could lead to legacy content that would break with the introduction of the patch.

At this point I recommend people ignore the oblong sculpties and keep voting for the jira until it is implemented.

I could Not Log in after New Install
10-20-2008 06:12
When I went to download and install i got a error: Cannot write .dll file, with a abort, ignore and retry. Retried, did not work. I tried to ignore it and it opened. THEN CRASHED. Redownloaded, and redownloaded, 5 times after 5 system restarts. Could not get passed that. I was able to find older version on sl wiki. LUCKILY this viewer update isn't mandatory. This is a 2 month old Acer Laptop. What is the problem is anyone else getting this error??

I decided to do a "bake-off" between a 1.20 build (Nicholaz) and a 1.21 build (Cool Viewer).

So far the 1.20 build is winning.

I've downloaded the new update twice. I am getting a clicking sound when I use my mouse controls. Anyone know how to fix this? Thank you!!! JC

Same thing, it's driven me insane. Only turning the UI right down stops it but then you lose rezzing noises and teleportation sounds.

Can we not have the option to switch it off, please!!!

Too slow for texturing
10-20-2008 08:10
I downloaded the new viewer and tried to do some texturing...takes forever for my inventory to load a texture and the program wants to freeze if I try to clik on anything. This is just no good for building...I cant wait 30 to 60 seconds for each texture to load so I can view it! Been using the new view for a few hours now and havent noticed andy increase in performance. Its just aweful!

To disable click sound in 1.21 client (tested on RC)

1) Bring up the "Advanced" menu, ctrl+alt+D on windows
2) Open the "Advanced" menu and select debug settings
3) Select "SndUIClick" (not sure about the name), remove the UUID and validate with enter
4) Select "SndUIRelease" (not sure about the name), remove the UUID and validate with enter
5) Enjoy an immersive experience

The newer viewer is the biggest nightmare I've ever experienced here at SL. I have two laptops BOTH of which CONSTANTLY, and I mean CONSTANTLY crash over and over. One laptop is 2 months old and one is 10 months old. Good video cards, etc. I have never had problems with crashing before this release. This is ridiculous. All since the new viewer and in the last 2 days, must have crashed over 20 times yesterday alone. It just logs me out and sends me home. Sometimes happens when teleporting......sometimes I'm just walking around.

This happens on BOTH my laptops. Macbook and Macbook Pro, Intel core duo, 2G RAM, nvidia graphics, OS 10.5.5.......everything completely up to date.

Please fix this buggy mess asap, it's the absolute worst it's ever been. Never had a problem before this.

Streaming Audio Issue
10-21-2008 08:08
Never had this issue before with the older viewers but streaming media (music) no longer disconnects when session is logged out (Quit). Relogging creates two steams playing. So now before quitting I must remember to Stop the media play.

Hi- wow that is VERY unusual- we have not seen this particular bug before. Certainly not one where rebooting your computer would not work. I can assume all of you machines are Windows (Vista?).

In the meantime, you asked for a way to download 1.20.17 again, you can find that here (this list is not maintained by Linden Lab):
http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Old_versions#1.20.17

Seriously Ramzi, give it up. You have the air of someone new-ish to Linden Labs.

Your quality assurance is absolute crap and it ALWAYS HAS BEEN. Don't act so surprised at these problems or the volume of them. It comes off as contrived at best, and as a hornets nest of engineered lies at worst.

Taking a step back to 1.20
10-21-2008 12:32
What a nightmare this update has been, after 3 days of slow texture loading, high lag peaks and suffering 2 to 3 crashes per hour I have decided to revert to 1.20. It's a shame I loved the terraforming improvements and the mono is awesome, but not at this price, let us know when you have a woking update that can be truly called an update, my guess is in about a week we will be seeing a new update LOL.

On my laptop, turning off object-object occlusion, will make the "attached prims dissapear" less noticable.

apart from the wait forever for the textures to load... for each and every texture preview when building..
when trying to rescale the texture on the prim... sometimes snaps to insane repeat
also uploading bulk.. leads to hang and crash every single time.. so textures have to be uploaded one at a rediculous time.. and youre lucky if you dont crash every 3rd or 4th texture
