I had no problem with the previous viewer. With the new one, every time I do something, e.g. sit down, I get flung into the dark. In spite of information to the contrary I was not allowed to revert to the previous viewer. What can I do now?

Uhhhhhhhh I then better wait some days for the fix fix fix

Was going to install it. However I dont have any problems with the version 1.20.17. Maybe its really only with Vista?

Using multi pose pads? You lose your hair!!!
10-17-2008 13:16
This problem was reported in the preview release. Using a multi pose animation set (as in a bed with many poses), you lose your hair at certain angles. This shure does mess up people's sex lives staring at a partner with no hair and yours is gone too! Going back to the previous release fixes the problem. I'd wait on this version lovers, until they get the hair problem fixed.

Not to be a pest... but why wasn't http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-7331 this fixed before release?

This is a major major problem for everyone trying to use SL above 1000m now that the build hight is 4096m.

That JIRA issue includes a patch that fixes the viewer code. Can someone who knows more about this stuff than me tell me how to install the patch?

Just to say that SL has crashed for no reason about 6 to 8 times this evening in the past few hours since I did the update.

I've just fully uninstalled it, and am trying to get back to 1.20.17 which I have just re-installed from scratch.

Fingers crossed things will be back to normal, however I suspect some SL stuff is left in the registy somewhere, even after uninstalling.

Never had this crashing problem before.

log in hell
10-17-2008 14:27
Okay, not TWO SECONDS after I logged right after I downloaded the new version of SL, in the thing crashed. When I tried to log back in, I got that "You're account will be available at 'so-&-so' time"

I tried to log in again after the time elapsed and got another one....then another after that...and another after that....after about an HOUR I finally was able to successfully log in....about four hours later, I crash again......and guess what....I can't log in again, this is getting rediculous!

Dont suppose the group search has been put back to the way it was? If we want the new group search its on the main tab via a dropdown, what was the point of duplicating it over to the group tag thereby making it nigh on impossible to find groups by size any more.

For this one, you can try the Cool SL Viewer v1.21.6.0 which reverts many unpopular UI changes, among which the groups search tab. http://sldev.free.fr/

Ok I am still testing the new version and I dont have any problems. I will post tomorrow again. Who knows.

Maybe I should make a lot of copies of my whole PC and ship them to LL. Gimme a call if interested :p

Download the source, apply the source diff against the official viewer (and cross your fingers that that section hasn't substantially changed) and recomplile the viewer.

It's non-trivial if that didn't help you at all, it is trivial if it did make sense (and you likely wouldn't have asked in that case).

If you want to try giving compiling the viewer a try though, all the information is available on the wiki, including how to apply "patches".

Joachim: the reason this hasn't been fixed is in the Jira:
From: Coco Linden
The fix is on track for version 1.23 but is easy and important enough that we might be able to slip it into 1.22 even though that deadline has officially passed. We know that this is important to you so please have patience and we'll get it out as quickly as we practically can.

Don't ask me to explain why they need that kind of lead time for this kind of patch, but that's what they're saying.

Taz's issue: 'flung into the dark'

Hey Taz—

Are you able to repro this issue consistently? If so, could you add your repro steps, your system info and location inworld where this has been happening to you to:
https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-181

Thx!

What's goin on with this viewer?
10-17-2008 16:14
I was quite excited to install this new viewer, since I've been using the RC ever since, and the latest RC ran very well on both of my systems. But now that I tried this main viewer, everything slowed down, so what's goin' on?

Isn't this suppose to be the recent RC, which is now released as the main viewer? I get up to 7fps on my desktop with the RC, but with this one I only get up to 3fps with the same preference settings. I even installed the RC again to double check and the RC definitely runs faster and better than this one. I rarely used the previous main viewer, cause it ran a lot slower, and this new viewer runs just as slow like the old one.

I'm even getting this annoying bug again, which is the constant reloading of skins and clothes. It's so annoying when taking shots (btw this constant texture reloading also happens at Aditi beta grid).

My desktop specs:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Series Processor (2133 MHz)
Memory: 2031 MB
OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
Graphics Card: GeForce 7500 LE/PCI/SSE2

I haven't checked this viewer yet on my notebook which runs a lot better than my desktop, but I'll check the performance there by chance. With my notebook, I usually get up to 50fps, using the RC, so I'm really eager to know, how this main viewer will run on my notebook.

I'll definitely stick with the RC for now, as long as it's still usable.

Ok, so I just tried out this latest viewer on my notebook, using wireless connection and it runs pretty well, with up to 37fps and no constant texture reloading. I also tried the RC to compare, and I get up to 52fps using it.

My notebook specs:

CPU: Intel Pentium III/Pentium III Xeon (0.25 micron process) with external L2 cache (2394 MHz)
Memory: 3066 MB
OS Version: Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (Build 6001)
Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
Graphics Card: GeForce 9600M GT/PCI/SSE2
OpenGL Version: 2.1.2

It would be cool to know what I can do, to improve my desktop performance, since I use it when I work on stuff in SL. Additional infos: I don't run any other cpu draining programs at the same time, not even an anti-virus or adware scanner that runs on a regular basis. I don't have any viruses or anything similar on my pc either.

I just hope SL will still run smoothly on lower end graphic cards and not only with the newest ones, cause it sure would be sad if that's the case.

Graphics Preferences Not Holding
10-17-2008 22:19
I've not had problems really so far with the new viewer. BUT there is one major niggle that means I won't be using it as my viewer of choice. Every time I go to log in after I've rebooted my pc I get the message that my Graphics Preferences have been reset to Default. Now this does only seems to happen after my pc has been rebooted and it is a small thing to reset Preferences but while I have other viewers I can use without this annoyance I won't be using 1.21.6. The RC viewer didn't do this so why does the new Official viewer?

Install issue (you will not believe this one!)
10-17-2008 23:16
I have SL on 2 machines. the first machine installed this fine, no problems with the install at all.
Second machine always results in the Beta Grid viewer!!!!!
both XP. identical install files. deleted old SLs (except the RC, I want something there that works!). redownloaded. tried many times to install, the same installer that worked fine on the first machine results in the Beta viewer on the second!!!!!?????????

obviously this is something local, but the installer should be taking care of it

update, I uninstalled all versions of SL and this still happens, fortunately the RC reinstalled successfully.

I would write a ticket for this, but the catagories are so narrow minded there is no appropriate path

Work Around solution found! -- I changed the target of the link on my desktop to:

"C:\Program Files\SecondLife\SecondLife.exe" --channel "Second Life Release" --grid "Agni"

Thanks to Sandy for the help :)
