This problem was reported in the preview release. Using a multi pose animation set (as in a bed with many poses), you lose your hair at certain angles. This shure does mess up people's sex lives staring at a partner with no hair and yours is gone too! Going back to the previous release fixes the problem. I'd wait on this version lovers, until they get the hair problem fixed.

I see this too, it is not only the hair, but at a certain point of zoom in.. and not that close .. attachments disappear .. Zoom one click in ... poof.. zoom one click out voila...

Oh, I had this also last night, but never thought it might have been the new viewer.

Just lying in bed with my lady :)

I zoomed in on her head, and she was bald! changed zoom a bit and she had hair (ON HER HEAD !!!) again......

Just at one point in the zoom range she looked like a "Skinhead" !!!

Never seen this happen before today.

Those with inventory loss should view JIRA VWR-6110.
I lost several AO's and Chimera HUD's and found this bug was more prevalent than I imagined.
You need to submit a ticket relating to lost or missing inventory and specifically ask for an 'inventory repair' or 'inventory restart'.
I'd given up on ever seeing my thousands of L$ worth of animations until it was suggested I file a ticket along these lines.
Within 24hrs, I had my HUD's back.

The new version for MacOS crashes every time I right-click on something. I mean every time! Can anybody else confirm that?

I had to "roll back" to the previous release, which works fine for me and hardly ever crashes. (when I use the OpenGL Profiler as a "filter" between the application and the broken graphics card driver, which is another known issue to be solved at Apple's end)

It's a shame that the new version does not work as the release notes read very promising.
Anyway, not complaining here too much. Keep up the good work, Lindens! There's no other virtual world like this!

If 1.21.6 is the fruit of the RC 1.21.X strain then why is it still avalible?

Well I hope the RC 1.21.X will be still available for a while, cause it runs better than the current main viewer, and I'm still using it.

Same specs on 2.4 Core 2 MBP. Updated last night and couldn't even right-click. Everything looked like it was running at 3/4 speed - interesting effect, but ultimately tiresome. Am going to try again this morning when maybe it is less busy...?

I think i found a "bug" too. I havent time to searching/posting in JIRA. It depends on long source codes in scripts. Sometimes it needs a while after opening a script for loading. Then you will see in german viewer script editor: "Wird geladen..." (in english "Loading..."?)

If you are clicking too fast with setting monofield and button "Save..." while script source isnt loaded, scriptinterpreter answered at first with an syntax error, because "Wird geladen..." isnt an command. But the really evil for this case is, its overwriting your whole script source code with "Wird geladen...".

All who are recompiling their source codes... dont click too fast. ;)

The solution for next version could be: Disable the Save button while loading script sources.
It would be great, if someone have time to proof and post this in Jira.

Generally sub version 21 seems to be a good work and a step on the right course.

Moving around problematic, jerky, stalling.
10-18-2008 08:06
I have almost gotten used to the constant frezzing (mac user), even if it's pretty annoying, it's not there every second...but, with this new release it's hard to move, especially turning, at all. Movements are jerky, you stall all the time, like "micro-freezes"..it's not longer possible to walk normally. I relogged with the previous viewer and I had no problems, I cleared cache, relogged again with 1.21, tried different sims...same problem, even camera movement is jerky and very very annoyingly unpleasant. Moving I would think is one of the most fundamental things in SL and it would be nice to be able to do that in the future too.

Another thing, the last months I have had big problems typing, some letters doesn't "catch", I type them, but they don't appear...we call it typelag...and it's extremely annoying. To make matters worse sound have also "lagged" on and off for the last months. Sound is garbled and muffled and sounds lijke someone had poured sand into the speakers. I think that SL is a wonderful wonderful place but the above mentioned bugs and faults along with nmerous others have made my SL experience worse and worse over the last months. And, no, it's not my ISP, everything else, and I do mean everything, in my comp works like a song, and it's not that I'm on an old comp either, I should be fne with my macbook pro, with Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB ram and 256 mb gfx card.

Suzanna, I ran the new version for about 24 hours with no problems like this, (except for the annoying loss of hair problem on multi pose animations). You might try checking system preferences and setting up the mouse configuration again. sometimes new programs can do wacky things to it.

Oh no no no.........

Something is definatly screwed here.

I also saw some (what looked like) cylinder flats misalignment on some other items I made and they were all the same orientation.

So I made a quick new test item.

Two new cyliners, 3mx3mx3m in size, one stacked on top of the other, and all exactly that same in all orientaions.

From some angles and distances it looks just as if they are not aligned

....

Yet, they are 100% spot on, and if you look closer, this misalignment effect goes away.

This is what I was seeing in my 1st posting.

And, remember, I have re-installed the earlier version and it's STILL screwed like this.

Hey Piggie, I can confirm this is 100% reproducible, it's the old problem that Level of Detail settings have been made fairly aggressive again. The lower of the two cylinders is now using a reduced number of faces to create the "curve" because it's just that little bit farther away from the camera, that's why the two don't match up anymore.

LOD seems to be something that gets tinkered with behind the scenes a lot between releases, and I usually have to do one or both of two things to get this back to a satisfactory state:

1. Edit>Preferences>Graphics - Make sure the Mesh Detail slider for Objects is at full. If that doesn't fix it for most cases, you can try:

2. Advanced>Debug Settings>RenderVolumeLODFactor - increase this value from the default of 2 to something higher. I don't know what the maximum allowed value is, but increasing to even just 4 makes a pleasant difference for me without FPS taking a bad hit.

Of course, it's frustrating to build using higher LOD settings to make sure your work is precise, only to know that 99% of the folks flying by will see all sorts of wonky seams...

New Viewer failure around the board
10-18-2008 10:52
From: Ramzi Linden
Hi- wow that is VERY unusual- we have not seen this particular bug before. Certainly not one where rebooting your computer would not work. I can assume all of you machines are Windows (Vista?).

In the meantime, you asked for a way to download 1.20.17 again, you can find that here (this list is not maintained by Linden Lab):
http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Old_versions#1.20.17

Thanks for the Reply Ramzi Linden! After old versions failed to download multiple times got the new one to install proper. As far as working well, um, trying to be nice, hmmm...back to the drawing board...this viewer is rubbish...(I need not repeat the same issues everyone else has stated)

Since updating there's an annoying ticking sound whenever I close my inventory, turn the camera using the mini controls or basically click on any button. It's driving me spare, is there no way to shut it off other than turning the UI right down because I'd rather not as I like hearing teleport noises.

Honestly, it's like living with death watch beetles.

Bad buggy new viewer 1.21.6 crashes all the time
10-18-2008 14:33
I have never had problems with updates, but this new viewer version 1.21.6 is a terrible buggy one.
OMG, what did Linden do with this?
Terrible, I crash all the time when I click on something.
How can I go back to the former version??
I would be convenient if Lindens adds the former version back on the site, this one is crashing all the time.

SL kept on crashing since I D/L the newest version...
10-18-2008 14:47
From: Slut Strom
I have attempted 4 times to install the updated viewer and before install is totally finished I get an error message:

Error Opening File for Writing C:\Program File\secondlife\wrap_oal.dll

Attempted to download on back up computer, received same thing, and again on my business computer, same thing....

Received a call from my mother and she is having the same issue.

Filed a ticket however, knowing I NEVER get any response to them posted here in hopes of help, ideas, answers... Maybe a way to download the old view till this 'glitch' is repaired.

(I have tried the 'work around' listed in the release notes however it still fails to install)

Is there any advice how to get around it or go back to the version prior to this please? Thanks!!

I'm having a problem with a MacBook. One with the crappy integrated Intel graphics. Yeah, not great for SL, but worked before this upgrade. Now rezzing takes ages (or never gets ready) -- I see grey people and objects after waiting for an hour in some places. And it always goes like this in these places.

Why ARE my folders empty?
10-18-2008 16:40
Like a couple of other people, I too came up w/loads of empty folders after downloading the new viewer and I have tried everything. I cleared the cache, re-installed SL, and I sent you a ticket which oddly enough did not send me a confirmation e-mail after I checked the box saying I want to be notified that you got it...I was impressed w/the new viewer until 500 items, most of them clothing went poof. Now I barely have anything but your newb clothes and quite frankly, I don't want those, I want what I bought for my avatar. Your library is always intact. Why can't my inventory be like your library and not get destroyed? I know this effects many talented vendors as well who have to rebuild items that may have taken them months to build. This is far from fair to them or to anyone wanting an enjoyable experience. If you can't find the bug can you find some preventable measure to keep inventories intact? I'm not the brightest bulb but I know this is not the enjoyable experience you seek to give everyone. Please if you focus on any fixes, focus on memory leaks like that. It's never fun rebuilding or re-buying items because of something that takes you months to figure out. If you can't figure it out then don't release a new viewer. I know I definitely won't be downloading a new one ever again unless by force like last time.

Did you uninstall and manually delete the Second Life program folder before installing?

Just a thought.

After reading through the release notes on this main client, I thought it was an awesome amount of fixes and features.
Then I read the forums and all the issues that have arisen from its use.
As I subscribe to the "it-won't-happen-to-me" school of thought, I downloaded and installed it anyway.
I got no error messages during install and was good to go until...
I noticed I had 3 new shortcut icons for it on my desktop!!
I would never trust a program that did that so I tore it out immediately without launching it.
I would recommend LL removing the download link to this a.s.a.f.p. and having a major rethink about QA.
Surely not all these posts are deluded, anti-everything LL but real problems leading to animosity and disillusionment amongst the client base.
My blind faith has been replaced by permanent suspicion and that cannot be the desired outcome.

What happened to this version?
Like so many others all I do is crash, crash, crash.

Forget taking photos at all with this version.
If I am lucky I may get 3 done before it crashes again. And that is with it saving as .png. Try to save as .bmp and it is instant crash.

This is not a problem of your computer, but a SLproblem, which developed a bugversion in the name of 1.21.6.
I've had the same problems, never had problems before wiht updates, now turned back to the former version and voila, no crashes anymore. I hope Linden will read this threads an realize the newest vesion must be 'killed'. It doesnt work for most of ppl, although they try to keep saying its ur computerhardware.
They should develop a upgrade which would work for all of us, and not only with a specific computerhardware. What does Linden want?? Buy us a special computer that only will work for SL??? Come on, lets get realistic, this version is not well developed.
Linden look at ur own developers and dont point at us users.
