Linden Lab bans Anshe Chung

Well, it looks like the Anshe Family (doodoodoodoot *snap snap*) is still around, at least...

So far as 'Anshee' is concerned.

I wasn't complaining about what happened (other than how long it took to resolve it), just using this as an example that they will suspend first and ask questions later. I understand why it would trigger an action - however, lack of any kind of notification was quite annoying.

Anshe:

1. Professional people don't wash their dirty laundry in public if they expect to maintain a good working relationship with the companies they deal with. This looks very unbusinesslike.

2. Why do you expect different treatment from everyone else? Seems to be LL is damned if they do and damned if they don't, basically. If you didn't have the money in the right account, the businesslike thing would be to transfer it. Why would you do anything else?

3. I know how much you love to drag the law into things. If you have made a contract to buy certain things from LL, you have to follow through or be in breach of contract. If you are already in breach of contract, I don't think things will improve if you try to blackmail them by defaulting on your other commitments. You told me you don't respond to blackmail, why should you expect LL to be different? And what sort of a message does this send to your customers? That you value your pride above their security?

4. Take the advice earlier in the thread, calm down STOP posting to the forums, and forget about the media - they won't care, and you'll do much more damage to your relationship with LL than you will be able to repair in a hurry. For every tale you tell, there will be lots of people willing to run along and tell one which is damaging to you, especially if you do manage to make yourself news. Is it really worth going into self-destruct for the sake of waiting for a couple of days?

5. SL would be a better place if people regarded other residents as equals, and didn't expect special consideration to be given to them based on their land or possessions. There's enough of that in RL, I'd rather not deal with it in SL.

Yes the lack of earlier notification is something that could be worked on. But then, maybe they have, because according to Anshe she knew when this was going to happen. *shrug*

Moopf isn't trolling you - you have one side of a story. That is like only hearing the plaintiff in a trial, seeing their evidence, and never hearing at all from the defense and just deciding guilt. Not exactly very informed.

Could it just be possible that the lindens are just playing a joke on anshe? for april fools?

That is an excellent point, and it was what I found so distasteful when the situation between Gaming Open Market and Linden Lab came up (and when the problem with SLExchange happened as well) - the drama in the forums over private business matters was certainly entertaining, but the airing of dirty laundry usally backfires on the one airing it.

I'd take a guess that she has recieved it in the past. When a company isn't profitable and needs all it can get it will bend over backwards, being lax with their own rules, or moulding their rules around a person so they don't lose that income. It's not an easy situation for a company, but we all encounter times when we have to dance with the devil.

A new injection of US$11 million means they don't have to do that now and maybe, just maybe, enough is enough. She rails against LL a lot on these forums to get her own way and has achieved that in the past. Maybe the customer doesn't understand the change in dynamics and still thinks that they can do whatever they want and get away with it. The sensible thing to do is to understand those new dynamics and realise that all good things come to an end. But then some customers just have an inherent sense of entitlement.

Some people would see that attitude as bad business. I don't. In business you often have to make arrangements on less than favourable terms if your position means that you have to. When you don't have to, you no longer do.

Hehe, OK, if you like to call an objective appraisal of the validity of a conversation and screenshots that come from the same person that mutually back up their position as trolling, then have at it. Neither proves the other. Neither proves anything at all.

If you don't take those with a pinch of salt then you may just be gullible.

Good luck, hope it works out. As I've said before you're a braver sort than I to take these kinds of financial risks in an environment still so young and dynamic.

This could still be some elaborate April 1st prank... but it's seems more unlikely now.

I don't think so.

1) Every customer of Anshe would go into 'panic mode' right now. I have no clue how many there are but for every one of them to keep silent about this if they had been pre-warned would be virtually impossible.

2) You don't piss off your biggest customer for a joke without giving them some indication first.

3) Anshe may be just one individual but her client base must run into thousands. Every one of them is affected by this.

4) It could cause a panic sell of land and L$ unless others are 'in the know' - and, of course, the more that know, the harder it is to keep quiet.

5) There would be several Lindens aware of the joke, monitoring the forums and in-world ready to step in and put it all to bed.

6) You don't risk a several hundred thousand dollar investment just as a joke.

7) If it was a joke, someone would have found out about it and posted it by now. So far all the stories remain intact, which means it's either very well planned, or it's true.

All you need is for this to hit one media outlet which doesn't bother to verify its facts, and it could spread like wildfire (remembering a certain event in TSO several years back) - and could irreparably damage LL's reputation and especially their selling point of "make a real life income".

I know that if I was treated in this way, joke or not, and I didn't know it was a joke, I would be seriously reconsidering my future in SL. That may or may not be a factor in the joke if it was.

I'm going with the theory of "computer error" and "nobody in the office till monday" right now.

I wanted to hear LL's side of the GOM fiasco too, but in spite of being invited by GOM to share it, they cited privacy concerns. I'm very much hoping to hear their side of this as well, but expecting more of the same.

I'm moving this to Notices and Well Wishes, and if subsequent threads on the subject are reposted, they will be merged/closed.

This isn't a discussion about Second Life this is a notice about whats happened and your, uhm, demands.

It seems like quite a vibrant discussion about Second Life to me. Residents should not be censoring.. err.. moderating the forum.

I haven't closed it.. Yet Despite the fact its a repost, although I can see the other seems to have be moved to a no-post forum, so its understandable one may be needed in the discussion forums.

Either way, as I stated Anshe has posted a notice of her being banned, and of her demands.

Hmmm....Given the message last time I relogged about In-World taxes being due on April 17th and referring us to the forums for more info, I think I'm going with April Fools joke and a very well executed one at that. After all, I wouldn't have seen this post, had I not seen that message and thought "WTF is this crap?" and gone to the forums to look for details.

Edit: But it's also going on 6:30 am and I've now been awake for nearly 24 hours, so who knows?

If this was a joke, presumably LL would have let the resmods know that this was about to happen so they could contain the inevitable mess on the forums that would arise. No doubt there'd even be a few Lindens around supporting and promoting the joke to give it some kind of actual credibility rather than just letting it spiral on.

Certainly in a previous moderating position I held, all staff were briefed before major announcements from the game's owners, and a warning of any potential problems that may arise, so that they could be handled properly.

This still will not end well.
