I voted against the profanity filter, as we are all adults and these types of filters, be they text masks or audible pauses or bleeps in recordings, are pointless. I additionally voted against this particular poll since it is rather disingenous to start a poll about filtering out profanity when it has been present in many of the thread starters own posts. Perhaps they are seeking self censoring, but regardless, filters from the big bad words are lame and I am glad to see the majority oppose them, and that the Linden position on them is also in opposition to them.

Well..I don't want to personally attack anyone. I think both sides have a right to their opinion and to express their opinion. But I also don't think jumping to conclusions and finger pointing is helping.

An optional profanity filter harms no one..so what the heck. But let's not be alarmist and shout "personal attack!" unles you are personally attacked. And let's not derail threads, just cause you disagree with the topic.

The last thing that i want to do is represent -myself- as a liar on these forums. What I am doing is bringing up a valid issue that I'd like you to answer for me. Once again I ask...how is it that you can create a poll asking a question about whether or not profanity should be filtered in the forums when you yourself called someone a 'fucking asshole' last evening.

You want to accuse me of being a liar? *sighs* I really didn't want to get into this but for ones that are not aware of some of the issues last evening that Catherine keeps bringing to the surface, I have posted a link to the post where Catherine did in fact try to label someone as an asshole in a cunning way.

You wouldn't believe how many times I heard that when i was in grade school and junior high.

I think my permenant record is probably an ugly patchwork of red check marks and black, felt-tipped scribbles.

However..I agree of course! let all state their opinions, but no need to be mean to one another! But i still think profanity just for the sake of crudeness can be a good thing.

I don't know ... I voted no on the profanity filters ... because as an adult you should be able to handle profanity. Of course there's going to be the odd person who swears so much that their meaning gets lost, but honestly I do not see a problem in these forums at all with profanity.

As a side note, the phrase "We're all adults" makes me think of some guy standing in the middle of a crowd going, "Right? Right?" and looking around.
