Should there be profanity filters in the SL forums?

This is not a poll to do away with anyones right to use profanity in the forums. Its a poll asking if you would like the option of a profanity filter added to the forums for individual use.

It would make it ****ing obvious who the ****tard ***holes are that cant from keep their language clean, but it would also be ****ed up because many legitimate words that have letters like, *** and *** or *** in them, get caught in those ******* word filters. Sometimes a foul word is needed to make a point and those should be permitted, because they are rare and its not like we havent heard them before. But if some ***hole cant keep it clean enough on a regular basis and you find it really ****ing offensive, I guess the offender should be muted or the post reported.

Interestingly enough, while this whole debarcle about Bedazzle was going on last night, I was looking at who was online, and noticed there were quite a few people 'reporting a post' Oh how it made me giggle. The feature is already there, up in the top blue bar of every page, the one that begins "User CP, Guidelines...". The button you are looking for is labeled "Log Out" and I guarantee that it will protect you from all forum profanity.

I really am puzzled over the aversion to profanity. Mostly because it's clearly the WORD ITSELF that offends more than the ideas. F*CK and FUCK convey exactly the same meaning to anybody that reads it. But the combination of letters in F*CK are somehow non offensive while the letter combination for FUCK is.
I'm reminded of a gag done by a comedian, I think it was Craig Kilborn, where he gave the camera the middle finger. Naturally on TV it was blurred out. He then turned his hand around so his palm faced the camera, middle finger still extended. This wasn't blurred because it wasn't deemed obscene. He continued going back and forth...blurred, not blurred... etc. A funny joke but it really brought to light how silly and arbitrary our notions of profanity are. _____________________

No, we don't need filters but people could use a little restraint and dare I say class. Like the 26 page thread that hasn't been closed yet, almost everyone came across as a jackass, the use and misuse of profanity only highlighting it.
