Bedazzle Be Naked

My personal views (for me and me alone) are actually fairly close Catherine’s on this one. I'm proud of my accomplishments in SL and would never promote them by draping naked woman around them. I'm not completely opposed to appearing nude in photos myself, but only when the context of the nudity lends me rather than robs me of dignity. This usually means nudity in a proper context, and rarely for commercial purposes.

That said, what is the point of this thread? Bedazzle is happy. The girls that posed for the pictures are happy. The viewers are happy. The photography and photoshopping is outstanding. The backdrop is (obviously) outstanding. So the presence of nudity may distract from the art...but it's art nonetheless.

Why bust their balls? Different strokes for different folks.

I think they are nice. People have done amazing things with their avatars. BUT needs more men.

I want to pose naked! I think this is all very sexist! As if everyone in SL just wants to see naked women...

That kind of thinking is what has damaged our civilization. Not about nakedness or whatever in specific, but the idea that we should make these kinds of judgements for everyone. Too high for what, your tastes?? Who cares?
I am just criticizing the idea that we can make one standard for all, that there is a "correct amount" of porn, booze, drugs, etc. The correct amount is the amount you, individually, think is correct.

It's like saying "Vanilla Ice Cream is Objectively Better than Onion Ice Cream". Almost no one might disagree with you, but it's still a matter of taste.

Well said! Also..in case folks have forgotten, we are born naked. It's not a disgraceful state to be in, but a very natural one.

The observation that there are no such similar collages of naked male avatars posing demurely and touching on their nakedness is interesting.

The female avatars represented in those pictures are as idealic as any penthouse pet...a male avatar dangling down to his knees (or protruding out the door) would probably not be met with similar tolerance. For the sake of "art", I'd think one would want to represent the female form with a tad more...well, somewhat more realistically. The point of sexual fantasy is not lost on me...both for the observer, and the creator. However, the stress in creating such a form is typically from the gals (or guys playing the gals, but that's something else entirely)...if you look at all the male and female avatars in the game, you will (I believe) find that female avatars are idealized far more consistently than male. I'd be willing to bet they own the lion's share of bling scripts too.

THIS IS NOT AN ATTACK merely an observation, nothing more. Women in SL have simply always seemed more interested in portraying themselves as Playboy quality forms than men have been interested in portraying themselves as Naked Atlas clones. Men really only seem interested in it when women are around (and I have seen women object strongly to John Holmes + 10 rolling into the hottub). For instance, a neighbor of mine well known for putting the mmmmm in mature used to hang out with her friends naked in her basement and work on their...well, hairstyles, as it were. Guys just don't do that.

Curious stuff.

Well maybe someone should put a men of SL forum up and solicit for male underwear models (if I wanted to see a guys thingy I could alway just look at the adult profiles on Yahoo-Give me broad shoulders and a gorgeous back any day!). The post your sexy pic forum is dominated by some very beautiful women. Maybe we should give the boys one of their own?

P.S. Aimee, sorry I almost killed you on my jet bike rampage. Its so hard to control with the tiny arrows on my laptop. It was fun though. I actualy rode the damed thing all the way to the Edge!

Many of us relate the avatars to the people behind the pc and therefore they are a representation of our RL-selves. I think what is more shocking to me about seeing the pics is not the nudity, is the avatars/people that are posing. The same way that it would be weird for me to do an ad for a kitty backpack wearing nothing but my birthday suit, I found it weird to look at pics with the naked avatars of some of the most creative people in SL. I guess it's more expected from other avatars that don't have much going in other ways to promote themselves in this manner, since they rely on the "sex sells" technique to acquire publicity. The avatars in these pics certainly have a lot going in the creative/personality/charisma/popularity fields and therefore do not need to promote themselves by posing in the nude.

All this being said, if they posed willingly, weren't being exploited, had fun and wanted to do this, then it's their choice. If you don't agree with it, then don't give them more publicity.

I like the pics I think they're pretty tastful more of an art photography than Penthouse. They all look lovely. Torley might want to get some sun though the glare off her tush could be blinding in the right light. (Just kidding Torley you look great)

I am intrigued as to why they did this. Can anyone cast any light on the reasons?

I'm probably going to say something that many of you have already said or were thinking to yourselves already. However, being one of he participants in this photoshoot, I would like to respond to the comments.

First and foremost, this -is- Second Life. Would I pose for something like this irl? The answer would be probably not. Second Life is a virtual world where we are able to experiment with things that perhaps we wouldn't do in our first lives...a place to be creative and imaginative. That being said, I saw nothing wrong with my -avatar- being displayed in this art form.

Everything was tastefully done. The members of Bedazzle who helped to orchestrate the shoot were ever so nice. And in the end, something was produced that could be truly appreciated by some...but perhaps loathed by others. I think some are definitely reading just a little too much into this. The images shown are not pornographic or hurtful in any way. In essence, it was all in good fun and enjoyable. Thanks to Bedazzle, Jimmy Thomson & Ariel Roentgen in particular, for taking such hot picks of a group of talented women within Second Life. I was more than happy to assist in their project and it was an honor to participate

I find it hard to believe that ppl would not of seen it. #1 Bedazzle's work is mentioned all over ths LL web site. From front page news to blogs, to forum entries. Let's not be nieve about that. #2 There is a direct link on the fan pages

The page with all the nudes has no warning what so ever.

So the fact that I found it was not because I was searching it out, I was curious about their web and their upcoming project. I however did not expect to see their team buck ass naked.

My entire point is they didn't need to do this, for press, for shock value, what ever.

Their builds spoke for themselves. If they were building the playboy mansion I MIGHT understand the need to do this in artist sence. This however has nothing to do with any of their builds.

I'm done giving this BS free press. I am no longer interested in their next build either.

I spend all my time in SL. I look at these forums and go to an occasional fan site if someone links it. The only site I check with any (rare) frequency is Higbee's Parks and Recreation site. I guess people search out additional SL content on the web, I just spend most of my time in SL.
