Bedazzle Be Naked

Vicious - that's just the word I was about to post. People are incredibly vicious towards Catherine. Believe me, that's not a way to sway views, increase understanding, or score debating points.

I have skipped the last two pages of this, because it is so late, and for fear the thread might get locked. Consequently, my thoughts presented below will be, due to time constraints, somewhat disjointed.

A. I want to say I still agree with Catherine. My impression of Bedazzled has also dropped a notch or two upon learning of this. Just as I tend to think less of the Second Life Herald for devoting so many of their pages to similar nude females. Just as I would think less of the New York Times or U.S. News and World Report or any other mainstream publication if they devoted part of their efforts toward same. I am not interested in nude females, or the environment and mindset they typically spring from.

Nonetheless, I am a live and let live person, and I know this sort of thing appeals to some. But my opinion of Bedazzled has since dropped about a THOUSAND notches after seeing how the people on this thread spew such vitriol over a person because of her (shared by roughly 90% of society in the rw) opinion.

B. Let's take a look at this. A person can have one of at least two opinions:

1. Tossing in nude female AV's on something otherwise admirable sullies the admiration, particularly if it appears gratuituous. This reflects the opinion of myself, Catherine, and others.

2. Tossing in nude females in any endeavor, under any circumstances, is at the very least a totally neutral act and shouldn't be criticized.

Apparently there are those in this thread who believe that one cannot have opinion number 1 without there being something flawed about that individual.

But it seems to me those screaming the most shrilly and making the most vicious attacks are those who are, deep inside, least sure of how right their arguments are. Not to mention least able to take the slightest criticism, or any analysis of how injecting soft-core avie porn - or artful nudity, if that's your take on it, but I do think that is the minority take on it - will affect a respected organization's image and future projects.

C. Someone somewhere pages back said something about working for higher pay for "sex workers." Well, calling them sex workers doesn't obliterate the fact that they are also, actually, prostitutes. You can sugar something up a whole bunch, but that doesn't mean that all your viewers are going to see it the same way. For example, I don't see plastering nude female avies over something as promoting "art". You can scream about it a lot, too, and call all sorts of names and make all kinds of personal attacks, but that still doesn't do the trick of turning a sow's ear into a silk purse.

D. For myself personally, I'm fine with whatever other people want to do. But I tend to avoid people who get all glowy about nude AVs, AV sex attachments, or anything else of the like. It all strikes me as somewhat childish. So this whole thing tells me, as a new player, to put the brakes on any excitement I was building up for Bedazzled's projects. I think that was Catherine's original point, in a nutshell.

See, this is exactly what is wrong with this picture. People are making assumptions about the motivations and mindset of those involved in the pics.

This started out with the idea that certain people "are beneath" Cat because of some nude pics of avs. One wonders, does Cat feel compelled to comment on all imagery of a sexual nature she comes across on the net? Probably not. It's just too convenient that this is a successful group here, that she is apparently trying to "expose". It's already working Coco, which is indicated by your statement above about your loss of excitement for Bedazzled's projects.

You know, maybe some research into Cat's past here on the forums is in order. She has a history of attacking succesful SL individuals and groups because she hates the fact that SL is not a wide open sandbox commune. She did it to Avalon, then to Shadow's group, then it was weeks of it in the land and economy forums and now it's Bedazzled. She looks for any peceived chink in the armor and rushes headlong towards it with unbridled passion. Then, she usually ends up retracting half of what she said, demands answers and quotes, and then ignores them when they are given.

Again, if you are going to come out swinging at people, be ready for them to swing back. I will admit some of it was unnecessary, including but not limited to the STFU stuff, but Cat also not so cleverly called Cris a "fucking asshole", and said that people who would post nude pics of their avatars are "beaneath" her. What comes around goes around. No one's hands are clean here, and the onus has to fall on the person who started a trollish thread. A thread that was successful to that end.

I think if all did a gut check and said, yeah, you have a point however perhaps some of the statements you're making are a bit hyperbolic, this thread would have been over by page 2.

In other words, the drama here is not the original premise. The drama here is our disrespect of one another and our inability to deal with concepts that potentially invalidate our own.

This thread exploded to 25 pages because people (not the originator of the thread - it was a pretty calm beginning, check it out) were very determined to blow it up into something dramatic.

To be perfectly honest, I actually like nude women and I thought they were pretty hot in that picture.

However, am I particularly proud of this? Not really. It's not something I'd like to tell my son or daughter "Hey, check out what daddy is doing!"

Torley Jr. thought it was fun to do, following in the footsteps of such posing techluminaries as Antares Gillwheat and Sepha Orion. I don't pose naked... 'cuz I am a big BUNNY named TORLOP and that would just be WRONG!
