You may also want to take time contratints into consideration. If the lindens are faced with an enormous and daunting client project with one month to get it done, they aren't going to want to spend 1 to 2 weeks of that month in a bidding process. When dealing with a project with this kind of money on the line and a short timeframe it makes more sense to quickly hook the client up with a team that already has a proven trackrecord.

I have no clue who this project involves or what kind of content they're having developed but I think this is great. Congrats to whoever got the gig.

I agree. I have a RL funded project beginning in SL and I had my choice of a Maya modeller or a proven SL builder, and I chose the SL builder. There are subtle tricks in SL that only an SL veteren has the knowledge to do. I asked one of my favorite builders if he was interested and built a portfolio of his builds to justify the decision to my boss and everyone is thrilled.

Why should the rest of us do anything other than congratulate those who got a lucky break? Are people so damn selfish that they can't appreciate the good fortune of others?

Apparently, Linden Lab is a government agency that must submit every project to an open bid. Now granted, this was not even their project, but a 3rd party client. Everything must be done by committee, and we should all also be allowed to vote on the applicants. Duh, Chip!

SATCHMO THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE, WHY DID YOU NOT OPEN THE PROJECT FOR BIDDING BY EVERYONE ON THE GRID?!

If that were true Snowcrash, it would not have so many in an uproar. The name was *never* created, used, or meant to be in any form the way you describe. It was meant as a term that was derogatory towards those it was being used on.

Many took the term and tried to take the harsh meaning from it. Consider it in the way that homosexuals were able to embrace and finally take control of the meaning of the word queer.

Yet still when the words "gay" or "queer" are used as a way to argue *against* an idea / person / thing.. It is *never* used in a way that could be taken positively.

I don't know the history of the term "FIC", if what you are saying is the true referred meaning and it is derogatory then it is clearly highly inappropriate and inflammatory.

Regardless, the group recommended (this is the key word, since they were not really chosen) have obviously superb skills in creating content. I am personally proud to have such talented people in SL able to get an attention of a Bank.

Rather than bashing these creative "favored" people, if I was a creater/artist here, I would see this as a great opportunity door openned. It just means more and more high profile companies may start recruiting for such content. As a player I am excited, because it means more talented people will be attracted to SL and stay here creating great things for us to consume. Future is looking good in my opionion :)

I haven't seen anyone bash those chosen for the project. Nor have I seen anyone whining that someone else got chosen when they didn't. (Yet. give it time.)

Everyone is getting a bit ahead of themselves in the pre-emptive strikes there.

Well..I'd have to hold off my opinion until I knew what they were teaching children. Is it how to buy a politician? Is it how to put money away safely (no..not buying corporate stocks for retirement)? Is it how to dig a hole in their back yard? Since a bank is sponsoring it, I don't hold out much hope, since their big money makers are getting young folks in debt fast, and reaping in the interest.

Remember..we are the Corporated States of America. We consume. We have zero ethics when it comes to business. We are into instant gratification (high interest payments).

But if LL is into it...what the heck. Their business and there good night's sleep.

Oh..by the way..missed you folks.

I see no difference between LL recommending people for a project and my recommending a good hotel and reliable caterer to an out of town businesss contact preparing for a meeting in my city.

Wake me up for this poll on the day we cease being customers of a private company and LL is staffed by elected officials salaried by my tax money.

Hmm, I don't think I'd be pulling a CNN right now to call this race for the "It's cool, man, calm down" camp.

Despite the fizzle I'm sure this will trundle on. But victory goes to common sense.

edit: I am also heartened to see the cries of STFU regarding the FIC and the bank deal. Maybe that's one piece of rubbish we're nearly able to put behind us.

That's Enabran, with an a.
