I love the smell of irony in the morning.

haha, you read my mind. If that post wasn't an attempt at recruiting for There I don't know what would be.

hehe this thread reminded me of part of a song -

"I have a Manshion, forget the price
Ive never been THERE .. they tell me its nice"
(Joe Walsh)

seriously though - Um a month old user saying how great THERE is .. providing links .. and annoyed that SL'ers are making new accounts in there just to recruit away players.

Um pot and kettle .. you know

If There is better than SL no amount of recruiting will matter.

Secondlife not only has to be better (a subjective term) it has to be better enough people will leave the THERE community and their involvement in it.

Eventually people will spend their online time in the place / places that are best for them. Offering them suggestions is fine. But Once a place gets boring most people will be looking for a new place anyhow.

Shush! you'll have the Thereians thinking SL is all about the dirty dirty sex!

It isn't????????

I'm confused now. ;)

One way to market SL to Thersians would be -----------

Everythign you get HERE , i mean THERE

PLUS content creation

AND SEX !!

AND

NO one to decide if you can take your stuff to market

AND

NO wholesale fees regardless of whether or not your stuff gets approved (% returned or not)

AND

Having a pet in SL can have many more "interesting" connotations than in There (oh that's that dirty dirty (only when done correctly) sex thing again!)

AND

Water is water

AND

One can still go back to There should one decide to do so ... we'll snicker (maybe) but won't stop you!!! (well I won't)

You can just get a silly lifetime account here, which will allow you to continue wasting your money on There on a monthly basis without a problem.

The more virtual worlds that are available for diverse tastes and interests, the stronger the virtual world genre will become. I hope There and The Sims Online enjoy renewed creative energy and long success -- the better each title does, the better it is for all titles.

And of course, it's better for all of us to recruit non-players than to waste time sniping each others' players, yes?

An interesting thing I've observed about game developers: they tend to be sincere and enthusiastic fans of each other's efforts. After all, if you don't love games, why get into the game industry? The money's much better designing business apps.

Tpppppppphpt. So I take it there's no flirting in There, and everyone behaves like they're in the first act of a bad 70's sci-fi sexual morality tale? :P

I took a look at some of the screenshots at www.there.com. A couple of thoughts come to mind:
  1. The idea that buildings are rescricted to creators that can make the place look *nice* is not exactly a bad thing. It might be actually enjoyable to explore a place that didn't have mall spawl every 50 yards.
  1. The vehicles actually look like fun....i.e. they *work*
  1. There's something to be said for simplicity...I'd be very curious as to what kind of lag is experienced in There as opposed to SL.
  1. Considering how much I currently pay a month for SL, There actually sounds *less* expensive.
All that said, I still think SL's more fun than There. Must be the Sex. :D

"We" are not forcing There to die and decay. I'm afraid There has been doing it themselves, starting with letting their Marketing department dictate the company aims... continued with letting each of its departments have its own vision for the company... and concluding with the final axing of its in-house software and in-world content development team, which was what really made There, There.

Think about it.

It's nitpicking and a bit bitchy...but I think they did themselves in a bit just by creating a game called There. :P

"Hey I play this game."
"What game?"
There.
There?
Yeah it's called There. I play it online.
Where?
No There...

I agree. If you try and talk about it while logged in to their service you're always talking about someplace else. They should have named it Here.

Actually, they planned to have three different sims: Here, There, and Everywhere. :D

No I don't play There any more.
Could I ask why not, Zack?
As a Mac user, I have no way of even taking a look.

While I was in There I only had good times and only saw good things.

So why don't you play anymore?

From: someone

There members are some of the most creative and talented people I have ever seen. I still read up on There news and email my old Therian friends daily. They are on the verge of coming very close to Second Life's level.

You mean, distributed computing, advanced scripting capabilities, in-world video streaming, a robust, non-inflationary economy, non-MSIE integration, and a game engine that can support higher than 800x600 resolution?

They must have been busy!

From: someone

Did any of you know about ThereScript? Or maybe the AI platform that drives their animal life? I bet not. I hear all the time of people signing up for There just to recruit people. That is just sad, are we that low?

People are relying on someone else's development (the AI platform), rather than taking the time to develop their own in SL? There are a bunch of SL AI projects.

From: someone

The vision of There is truely one of a kind. There was developed by some of the greatest minds in the gaming world. I'm proud to say I was once a member of There. I also feel disapointed that I left There.

Feel free to go back.

Furthermore, I can't say much of There's employees, but LLabs has an MD (James Linden), a nuclear engineer (Cory Linden), and about 40 other folks with skills far surpassing anyone I could do. Hell, the CEO of the company developed his own compression codec and has a Bachelor's in Physics, for God's sake. THe only folks I seem to see coming from There are marketing droids. Hence, their failure. LLab is populated by optimistic geeks with an almost religious passion for their jobs. Talk to some of them in casual conversation.. they never seem to have any stress about the company itself, or about pressure from the "higher ups", or whatever. It sounds like a faboo company.

From: someone

Why do you do it? What is so wrong with the thought of them being in peace and letting them develope their own world?

Because they're about 30 seconds away from being as stagnant and dead as Activeworlds is.

From: someone

I don't get and never will. You all were mistaken about Black Friday. I'd Second Life has something coming if people continue to do what they do.

You mean innovate and push the boundaries? Indeed... if they keep this up, SL will be Virtual Space Primero Uno in no time.

From: someone

Don't ruin something so amazing because you believe something else is better.

Pot to kettle, come in kettle. You're black, over.

From: someone

I always will remember what I had in There. People in There continue to push its limits and show us anything is possible. Look at ThereOrleans, and tell me how that is possible. It wasn't but one person made it possible.

 It's not possible! But someone did it so it's possible! But it's unpossible!

Unpossumable!

From: someone

In case you didn't know, There has a new Community Manager. I believe he will lead There to a future of possibilities. There was the biggest steping stone in Virtual Worlds and Second Life has yet to surpass it.

Second life not only stepped on There on its way up, but messed up its hair, gave it a noogie, then tossed it down the ladder.

A year from now, There will look ever more antiquated compared to SL's constantly evolving developments. It's a dead world. Get over it.

From: someone

The following sites are those of developers of There. They worked with There for many months and helped build one of the biggest Virtual Worlds to date.

At last count, There had around 15,000 members. SL has 36,000. TSO has around 40,000, and had over 120,000 at its peak. Habbo Hotel has hundreds of thousands of users. Even Activeworlds was bigger than There at its peak. Try again.

From: someone

Look at the above links, look at the hard work. By recruiting people in There you are basicly saying none of that was important. That all of the work they did over the cource of many years was just a waste.

If their product isn't successful, then yes, sadly, it's a waste. What's your point?

From: someone

I've met many people in Second Life who believe as I do. There is the next generation Virtual World, no doubt about that. But it is not right to go in There and just recruit people because you want Linden Dollors.

How about to save them from the pain and suffering that will result once their McWorld collapses in on itself, sucking the community down with it?

From: someone

There has the right to survive and thrive just as much as Second Life does. You are killing There and killing all the hard work. We're not just talking about a game here, we are talking about shuting down peoples money supply.

There is killing themselves quite well without some vast conspiracy of Second Lifers beating on their door.

From: someone

People work for There and they feed their children and families though There. People who play There use There a base of income. Its sad people do this, it is very sad that Second Life members feel the need to destroy something great.

A few overzealous idjits does not a community make. You're going to have to come up with a more compelling case than a dozen people coming into There wanting to recruit them to SL.

From: someone

Just don't do it, don't put my words and their work to waste. If you don't like There then thats fine but don't destroy something such as There. Don't destroy years of hard work and billions of dollors.

If There cost anywhere near a billion dollars to make, they have more problems than a few zealots from another world evangelizing.

hehe.. I think it is because unless things have changed (which I doubt), Leilany is already married. What that has to do with Utah I'm sure you can figure out. :p

I was reading the archives for NO REASON...
Yeah, right...
From: someone
I still...email my old Therian friends daily

From: someone
I left There during Black Friday and hate myself for it. I look at how far they have come and the friends I left behind but can't bring myself to join again. Because I know i'd never be able to face people in There again.

Well, which is it? If your friends are close enough to email daily then why are you afraid to face them.
And, ummmm, if its that great...recreate! No one will know who you are so you can face all those intolerant bastards!
From: someone
I still refer people to There because I love it
But you just cant face the people THERE?
From: someone
They are on the verge of coming very close to Second Life's level....

RES IPSA LOQUITOR...the thing speaks for itself!
From: someone
Don't destroy years of hard work and billions of dollors.

From: someone
And when you get a newbie to try Second Life out once in a while you are destroying There. You are taking money away from them.

From: someone
You are forcing them to die and decay...

And you still cant manage to go back to THERE? Even on a new unknown account? Yeah, right....

Bah... I just got carried away by the sudden burst of sarcasm and logic he shot into this stupid thread *sigh* He didn't reply which means he's prolly not interested which is quite alright because I don't think Mr. LaFollette would appreciate me starting a harem ;)

I still like Lordfly, though :)

Stupid? You people are the ones who hijacked it. You should of posted replies to the topic not the hijackers new topic. The topic was recruiters in There from Second Life. If you disagree with something then don't reply.

People can't even carry on normal conversations like adults. Geewiz!
