AND WHEN DID ENABRAN MAKE A CUBAN, AND WHY WASN'T I OVERNIGHTED ONE?

Ai, Simone, the putas at FedEx must have eaten yours. I guess I should not have printed that enormous label that said

DOES NOT CONTAIN CUBAN SANDWICH RATIONS

Live and learn, I suppose. :o

I'm sorry for interjecting into this. But I have to ask about this "mob". Am I part of the "mob"? Was there a meeting where they got together and designated themselves a "mob"? I've heard reference to this group. One post said that there were emails sent out to get people to post.

The questions and concerns I had were my own, but I did assume others would be just as concerned. But to say there was a concerted effort to negatively impact on one person as if we were a herd of wild chihuahuas nipping at the heel of a big cow trying to bring it down, is not a fair assessment.

I would like to say maybe you weren't talking about me specifically but when people make a general statement that blankets the whole forum, it makes me wonder about my actions and does not serve the purpose I am thinking the speaker intends.

Calling a group of people a mob is a way to dismiss their complaints without actually adressing their complaints. It is functionaly equivilant to calling people [that are involved in the mob] sheep. However, I honestly don't think [or hope] most people realise this or they wouldn't bandy so blatently derogatory and condescending language around while rallying against attacks on the forum. I think, like so much derogatory language, that it has become so fashionable to use the term that people are forgetting how insulting it truely is to people who feel they have a valid opinion.

On the subject of mobs, let's have a little example.

I walk into movie theatre. It's crowded, there are people around. I proceed to defecate on some movie goers before the previews have even started. The majority opinion in that theatre will be that my behavior is absolutely unacceptable, and that I should be removed.

Is there a "mob" there? Not necessarily. Having a general consensus that something or someone is undesirable is the result of a community having shared values. For all the movie theatre patrons know, my depositing of waste on the laps of unsuspecting people might just be my quirky way of introducing myself or paying a compliment. But it doesn't matter, since for the majority of people there, taking a crap on someone isn't cool.

And many people also feel that tying forum behavior to access to SL is overreaching. I am one of them. As much as I disliked what Prokofy did in these forums, I would not want to see him lose all that he has worked for in SL because of it - or anyone else. Only things being done in SL that violate the TOS we agree to should result in banning from SL.

I disagree. The Lindens (or some of them) obviously do as well, which is what matters in this case.

mob: those who disagree with you strongly (aka "attack you";). They can't possibly disagree with you because they have formed their own opinion. Instead they use secret codes to communicate to alert everyone to bring the pitchforks. See also: forum jackals.

independent thinkers: those who agree with you. Even if there are a whole bunch of them, they aren't participating in group think or a mob because, well, they agree with you. See also: hypocrites.

Rule by a disorganized mass of people using crude majoritarianism and brute compulsion.

I can't figure out whether to join the mob, the anti-mob mob, or the anti-anti-mob mob.

Aw heck, I'll just go make another attempt at working on a boat until it vanishes into thin air.

mobs don't last long enough to make rules.

if they do, they cease being disorganized, and thus stop being mobs.

Rule = command, cause to happen according to desire, belief, prejudice, or fear, enforce the popular will

"rules" = laws, principles, codes, codexes, etc.

I know everyone is getting tired of me asking, but I must know. Does that include my posts? I've tried real hard to specifically not be BS (sorry I can't even type profanity and I never ever say it, not a religious thing or anything, just don't like the sound of profanity. Most of the profane words are rather tinny). So when someone says the whole thread is labeled as something, I can't help but think they mean my posts as well.

Oh and could you hop over to my other post, the one on the halfway mark in 2005 and add something. I know you've been busy in SL the last few months. I would really appreciate it.

"rules" = laws, principles, codes, codexes, etc.
rule = long term "command, cause to happen according to desire, belief, prejudice, or fear, enforce the popular will"

thus rules.

a mob is a very short lived phenomena.

it may impose its will, but to call it rule is stretching the meaning of rule.

The meaning was clear, and you're arguing about angels waltzing on the head of a pin. Or dogs eating cat food. Or something.

There are better things for you to do. As for me, I think I'll say sayonara to this thread. :)
