Just how sour are those grapes anyway!?

-Kiamat Dusk

No grapes here, so please don't project that on me (if you were referring to my post, or even both Chip's and mine).

My dad generally voted Republican, my mom has always been a staunch Democrat and is involved deeply in state and local politics to that end.

I, having had the benefit of seeing how dangerous blind patisanship is, vote issues, not party, because I have some serious issues with both of the big two.

So when I hear people reply to criticism of the Republican party or the current administration with crap like "all you lefties... blah blah" (not that you have here), I just have to chuckle, because they really have no idea.

I know what you mean, Nolan. I'm functionally a left leaning indie who had a Democratic Mom and a Republican Dad as well. Not uncommon for my generation in NY.

I swear, sometimes it was like growing up in a Carville/Matalin house.

Just goes to show you though, that people can overcome idealogical differences and in fact share the same bed and raise a family.

And yes, some of our supper conversations (especially during the Reagan era) were quite interesting. :o

I can only imagine.

Dad came from a family of Mennonites, and though he himself "officially" gave it up and went Methodist with his mother, it was a doozy if we got on the topic (their conversion was a slap in the face to grandpa, apparently, and also very unusual, or so I am told). Mainly because my mother, being a very forward thinking female, didn't have a lot of love for it, especially what with grandpa beating grandma, which probably still goes on to this day, not that grandma would ever admit it.

Disclaimer #1 - The Mennonite thing is in no way a direct comparision to your least favorite dinner topic, Israel, which is obviously a much more highly charged issue.

Disclaimer#2 - The Mennonites have come around a bit in recent decades, in the form of some reform with regard to the notion that spiritual leadership belongs exclusively to the men, and that women should not work, stay home, and be good little wives, to prevent the children from losing their way.

OMG! Meta-discussion!

99% of 'em are bitches, male or female, to give my opinion on the subject.

My 6th grade teacher used to call us collectively "A bunch of bitches", when we acted like a bunch of bitches. You know what ? He was right (not that he'd get away with it today, they'd run his ass outta there so quickly his head would spin). People need to lighten up and quit looking for reasons to be offended at every turn. Fat chance.

CONDOLEEZZA’S BRAIN REDACTED

Painful Memories Erased Prior to Testimony

In preparation for her testimony in front of the 9/11 commission this Thursday, the White House has redacted the brain of National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice twenty-eight times, White House spokesman Scott McClellan confirmed today.

Doctors at Bethesda Naval Hospital used an experimental new procedure in which painful or embarrassing memories are virtually zapped away by a pinpoint laser beam in order to make the twenty-eight redactions to Dr. Rice’s brain.

According to White House sources, Dr. Rice now has no memory of any conversations about Osama bin Laden, Saddam Hussein, Pervez Musharraf, Richard Clarke, or the unmanned Predator drone.

In addition, Dr. Rice can no longer recall anything that happened in the first nine months of the year 2001, the sources confirmed.

“Her memory pretty much picks up at the point where she starts doing an amazing job to protect America from terrorism,” one source said.

White House spokesman McClellan denied that the twenty-eight redactions were made to Dr. Rice’s brain in order to conceal damaging revelations that might otherwise come out in her congressional testimony.

“In the two hours allotted for her testimony, it would have been impossible for Dr. Rice to tell everything she knows,” Mr. McClellan told reporters. “But now, thanks to this procedure, she knows virtually nothing.”

At Bethesda Naval Hospital, doctors who performed the brain-zapping procedure said that the first question they asked Dr. Rice when she regained consciousness was, “Who is the President of the United States?”

“She was unable to remember Dick Cheney’s name,” one doctor said. “That’s when we knew the procedure was a success.”

I seem to recall the age old stereotype "baggage progresses wisdom". The first few pages of this thread is just a disasterpiece. It's like taking a neurotic sorority girl, grabbing her by the pony tails, and swinging her until her stilletos come off.

Seriously. Secondlife forums has some of the worst trolls ive ever seen. But since the shit-stirred card is played so frequently to the tune of so much success, Condi really is a bitch. But at the same time, Kiamat Dusk, you're not getting any younger, and your still a metaphorical pain in my ass. How's that for wisdom?

And by "real Republican" you mean someone who bares absolutely no resemblance to a Republican but rather espouses your Leftist views.

I'm always very wary of the people in the forums you stamp with your "good Republican" seal. Lek, I'm looking at you here.... ;)

Look all you want. Just because Kendra stamps me a good republican doesn't mean I'm going out to hug trees and melt down weapons so I can make choker necklaces. If you think GW is the be all end all to the Republican party you are sadly mistaken. Even though Reagan made a few mistakes, his Presidency was the last bastion of the Republican party if you ask me. Hell even GW's dad did a better job. 'Nuff said, I tend to not get in these arguments anymore the last election year wore me out.

... Christ, what a horrible message board. I *hate* blind 'My side is right cause... it's my side!' arguments. And I'm talking about the liberals *and* conservatives posting there.

And I hate the necessity to use profanity to make oneself feel better about one's opinion, especially when one doesn't know any big words to use that impress and obfuscate.

I agree. My point is that Bush is NOT a Republican. He's a corporatist. He simply does not represent the interests of our country. He represents the wealthy that serve him.

Real Republicans do, even when I disgaree with them, represent our country's best interests. They SERVE the people.

Real Democrats --same thing.

I'm all for a solid 2 party system with both parties keeping each other in check. The Bush Party is it;s own monster and it's purpose is not to SERVE the Country, it's purpose is to feather it's own nest.

I've been accused of being anti-patriotic, but I would remind those that do so, to remember what this country is supposed to be about, and that active and honest dissent against a power that seeks to subvert our Constitution is not only a very American notion --it is supremely patriotic.

I never even mentioned Carter. But if Japan wants to thank anyone --they can thank Reagan more than Carter.

Having said that --Carter didn't improve our economy --but he didn't run up a trillion dollar debt either.

I fairly sure that you're far too young to remember the Carter Presidency, so I'll excuse your ignorance.

Ok, We can thank him too but for different reasons. We thank the american auto makers for making shoddy products, we thank the employee unions for their help as well.

You miss the point altoughter! *giggle* Then again you always miss the point? Republican/Democrat it makes no difference to us! You are just different sides of the same coin. As far as I can tell boths sides are equally guilty of attacking each other.

Silly Americans, I wonder how you have come so far? You understand that name calling is going to be your downfall. *laugh* In the end Americans are going to destroy their own country in the name of getting the other side!

Wonder who is going to take you over? The answer is not Japan, we dont want the problems and any country that does is going to suffer!

What YOU (and many americans) don't understand is that Bush is NOT a Republican. The matters in this country are not laughable, and they are being trivialized by the media as being simply partisan bickery.

I don't miss your points at all, dear. I'm telling you that you are speaking out of ignorance.

I think a lot of people do not realize that the US government has been shifting to corporatization - protecting the needs of the corporations over the needs of the individuals. It's been happening for quite some time. Unfortunately, many people believe what the corporate-owned media, the DNC and the RNC tell them to believe. They want us to believe they are looking out for our own best interests. They are lying to us. They are looking out for their own pockets. I think all our politicians should have to wear sponsor decals like NASCAR drivers do. After all, that's who they really care about. (at least most of them)

But your "bickering" keeps getting worse! Also we could care less on who is a "true" party member. Sounds like the old Soviet State!

You also attack each other within your own parties. Then again what do you expect from a country that came up with the concept of MAD? Sometimes it takes someone from outside to see the truth. Be careful, or your hatred will consume your yourself, your family, your friends and your country. As Rodney King said "Can't we all be friends?"

Started with Reagan. We've had nothing but corporate fascism in this country in an ever spiraling downward spin since. Reagan, Bush I, Clinton (Yes, Clinton was also a corporatist but at least he was competant), Bush II.

The present administration is by far the worst we've seen of it.

Carter is regarded as a bad President because THAT's what the corporations want you to believe. He may have been the last honest man to hold that office. Whatever else you might think, Carter was certainly the last President we had that was his own man.

THIS ISN'T WHAT AMERICA IS SUPPOSED TO BE.

You don't get it. I have no problems with Republicans. I can agree to disagree with actual Republicans --who aren't that different than actual Democrats. I've said this repeatedly.
I believe we SHOULD get along, I've said that repeatedly as well.

What you fail to understand is that America is being divided precisely by the current crop of fascists now in power. They divide us because that's their power strategy. Divide and Conquer.

Until the Republicans take back their party from the radical elements that have stolen it, this country will remain in terrible danger.

I'm not bickering. I'm stating quite plainly that I believe the current Government is Anti-American.
