Well stated. It is interesting that aggressiveness and strength of will is encouraged in men, and even being a complete ass is looked up with pride. The same traits in women are viewed as "being a bitch". I personally don't think Condoleeza or Hilary are bitches. I am sure individually, outside of politics, they are both warm and caring people. Politics however is all a game anymore, and both of those women play hardball in a field still dominated by men. That has a lot to do with their perception - it is a tough role they have to play. I have tremendous respect for both of them, even if I do not agree with the politics of Ms. Rice.

I do think that generally with friendships, people do gravitate more to those who share similar views to their own. That is not always the case. Eboni and I have quite divergent views on a lot of things, and yet I have an incredible amount of respect for her. Letting politics (which in the end is just a meaningless game) get in the way of any friendship is just silly.

It's helped prolong the war because our commanders are having to fight a land war in Iraq and a PR war in the US against a press who has never met a war it did like...unless Bill Clinton was in office...

It has served to demoralize the troops you're "supporting".

It has served to energize the opposition, giving them the hope that if they just hold out a little longer the American Left will win the war for them just like it won the war for the Northern Vietnamese. (thanks, Hanoi Jane!)

It's helped ignite more fires what with the constant barrage of Abu Ghraib pictures, and false allegations ala Newsweek.

As I've said before, these arguments are so much for the participants as they are for the spectators.
