I am from Okinawa and am sure you do not know the difference or care. I know a lot more about American Politcs than you know about Japanese politics. Even if most Japanese do not consider us such.

My American friend with me says you should only vote for Green Party canidates then.

Hyperbole is all he has going for him.

Last person I voted for was a Green. They have some good socialist policies, and respect the self-determination of local groups, or at least they do here.

Figures you are a know nothing American. If you wonder why most of the world dislikes Americans look in the mirror. Okinawa or the Ryukyu Kingdom was invaded by the Japanese in 1872. There was a dispute between China and Japan on who should control the islands. The dispute was given to a third party or the United States and they decided Japan had the stronger claim. In 1945 America invaded Okinawa in what we call the iron typhoon. America controlled Okinawa until 1972 and again handed over us to Japan without consultation. Today The United States has bases on 1/3 or the land available. Tokyo does not want the American troops on the mainland. So Okinawa gets to host most of the American bases in Japan. We vote against the ruling LDP but our impact is very limited.



Your Green Party is a lot like our socialists. A very minor party with little impact on politics. I live in America now and just saw an election here. After looking at the entire name calling, I could not decide which one was the biggest jerk! It will be interesting if the backers of the losers in the primary can vote for the winner. The language they used could have made a Vandal blush!

Just for starters, "neither republican nor democrate" does not mean "green party".

Second, you propose voting a strait party ticket, which is the faciliator of the uneducated, ignorant voter.

American politics is different than Japanese. The current PM of Japan Koizumi ejected the LDP members that voted against the privization of the Post Office. In Japan a representive has to vote the party line or get ejected. Keep forgetting how independant Americans are! I usually vote the Democratic ticket which is not the same as your Democratic party. I just dont like the henjin (PM) and his politics.

Also understand there are other parties as well just like Japan. However only a few of these get elected to the Diet and have little impact. Understand they are very few non Republican or Democrats in Congress and no Green Party ones.

How charming. Yes , our Green Party is somewhat similar to your socialists, hence my involvement with them. I'm not ashamed of my politics, so using that as an insult seems a rather strange action on your part.

Your assumptions that I don't know the history of Okinawa amuses me, You know nothing of my background, education, age, or even ethnicity.

I, so far, have found little in your posts other than attacks at me with very little reason or fact behind them. For that reason I have very little motive to take you seriously.

I agree 100% with Kendra (which is pretty typical) and Reitsuki (which is unheard of) on this issue

anyone who either

1) votes strictly along party lines
or
2) thinks either of the 2 parties is the ultimate solution (my opinion a thriving multiple party system, say 10-20 viable parties with candidates not only running for ,but winning elections)

is deluded and not seeing the big picture

And no, I'm not. Whichever gender a president fancies doesn't concern me in the least, because it has no bearing on if I think they would be a good president.

This is a place I diverge *sharply* from some elements of the gay community, which seem to regard gay-anything as a notch in their belt, shoving "See, XXXXXX can be gay too!" down everyone's throat. We're never going to be respected as equals as long as some of us can't get past the petty scorecards and nose-rubbing. The whole point is to make people *not* think we're some crazed activists, but just people. To quote 2, an internet proto-podcast guy, "You guys are helping the gay community like ramses was helping the hebrews".

I admit I'm not a huge one for following the personal lives of the minor beuracrats, but last I knew that was still simply speculation, and not particularly well founded speculation at that.

It's speculation that came in handy for a snarky joke. Though he does set off my personal gaydar. In any event there is no shortage of queers that I find offensive --even of the liberal stripe, so I'm inclined to agree that being gay isn't a magic badge of honor.
