I'd actually be satisfied with having someone merely competant in the Whitehouse at this point. Hell -- Nixon looks better to me everyday.

That's just the glaucoma talking. :p

I agree that a better conservative is the only way to get someone more competent.

Nixon was a moderate.

Except the buyer wanted to keep the cross anyhow, so...

Of course they did. The land wasn't offered to anyone else.

Best of luck to all of you in this thread. I'm headed over to the memorial now to take some pictures and begin my recreation of the memorial on top of the great mountain in Phobos. Come and visit.

IM me if you want to help.

Champie.

ps Chip, the memorial was originally constructed in 1913-14, rebuilt in 1930's(?), then again in 1954 when it was rebuilt and rededicated to fallen soldiers of the past 3 wars in which Americans fought.

Wow - the history of this memorial is beginning to sound like Paul Harvey's "The Rest of the Story". Who was it dedicated to when it was first built? Just curious.

I don't see a single cross.

Christianity is under attack in this country. Most people just haven't noticed.

While Christian symbols are being banned one after another symbols of other religions are being ignored or encouraged.

Mosques are being allowed to sound prayer call but churches are not allowed to ring their bells in many communities in the US.

In fact it is happening world wide.

Erm, "glaucoma" isn't a drug, it's an eye problem.

(the connection to the post she quoted, however, eludes me)

How can it be under attack when it actually is sitting in power?

Not true. You are free to wear Christian symbols or place them on private land you own until you're blue in the face. You are not, however, free to place them on land that I and other non-Christians also pay tax money to support.

I'm afraid you're mortgaging your credibility with that source. They claim:

From: someone
The oxymoronic Campus Beautification Committee selected the display, entitled “Holier than Thou,” portraying a Catholic bishop with a morbid facial expression wearing a miter resembling a penis.

But that is not factual at all - people with dirty minds might see a similarity between a miter and a penis, but that's a matter of perception, not fact. It's certainly not an "attack on Christianity".

The history. The current memorial is the third one on the site. The first, made of wood, was put up during WWI. It burned down in the 1920s. A stucco cross replaced it and stood until it blew down in 1952. The present cross was put up in 1952 by the Mount Soledad Memorial Association which was founded by American Legion Post 275 in 1952 to replace the memorial and to maintain it. The plaque reads: "Mt. Soledad Veterans Memorial Cross. Dedicated in 1954, as a tribute to all branches of the Armed Forces of U.S.A. servicemen and women. This plaque dedicated November 11, 1989. Mt. Soledad Memorial Association, City Beautiful San Diego."

Were the first two destroyed by acts of god?

About 80% of the country is Christian. 1

In 2004, forty-eight out of fifty-one Republican Senators voted with the Christian Coalition 100% of the time. One Democrat also received a 100% scorecard -- Zell Miller who has since retired. 2

The Bush campaign hired a Christian historical revisionist, David Barton, as a political consultant. 3

Ah... what's the point. Don't listen to this either.

Have you read this book? Or did you just like the assertion so you thought you'd link it here?

From: someone
Fresh Air from WHYY, May 11, 2006 · Journalist Michelle Goldberg, a senior writer for the online magazine Salon, and covers the Christian Right. In her new book, Kingdom Coming: The Rise of Christian Nationalism, she writes that Christian nationalists believe the Bible is literally true -- and they want to see the nation governed by that truth.

So, who are the Christian Nationalists and what proff is there that they believe the bible is literally true and want the nation to be goverened by that truth?

This is an excellent example of the left's exclamation of THEOCRACY!!! It's an absurd assertion.

Usual knee jerking.

My point in linking a collection of random links on this topic is that Christianity is hardly on the defensive in this country, not whatever you have decided I am trying to say.

It is completely absurd that Christianity is "under attack" in the U.S. Most likely it's a mobilizing slogan and meme to make sure the heads of Church can maintain thickly padded wallets and influence.

And yet the US economy is at an all time high and the stock market is close to breaking it's all time record. Meanwhile unemployment rates are at historical lows. Oh, and the Republicans just extended the tax cuts that let you *keep* more of your money.

You were saying?

Sorry Kiamat but i disagree .. look at what is really going on ....

That was actually meant to be listened to. She spouts off names and organizations for about half an hour that you can follow up on or not to help make the case for whether or not CHRISTIANITY IS UNDER ATTACK.
