What was it supposed to memorialize in the first place and what prompted the rededication? Well intentioned or not it's inappropriate and it should be removed. If people want to honor the war dead they can do so without violating the constitution or casting non-Christian soldiers as second class citizens. _____________________

While it seems that proponents of the Cross agree that it violates the California constitution, attempts to sell the land have met with additional lawsuits about the legality of the sale. If the Federal government decides to make the memorial a national monument then it will not be subject to California contitutional judgements and will be allowed to remain as it is, but as a national monument. |
