From: Luth Brodie Is that the new word for it? Gender intolerant? Ha. I'm not an idiot yet I use the "c" word every day. I call my husband it all the time. He calls me it back. We say it in jest cause it makes me laugh. It's just the same as calling a male a dick. (can I say that?) But the word has been so over used its not a touchy subject. Why not fight the real battles like equal pay, protection from domestic violence, and force fed gender roles from birth? That's FAR more important then some guy implying the "c" word on some forums. Not to mention if you read the signature its about free speech not about gender. Duh. People who scream "gender intolerant" make me ashamed of being a feminist.
I wasn't battling the damn thing in the FIRST place. I'm not the one who AR'd it.coco

From: Jonas Pierterson I reacted a bit harshly, I admit, reading back. Still though, I won't respect any resmod locking. Roo, you (as a person) have my apology for the way I expressed my feelings.
Edit: I don't have a problem with her resmodding job. I have a problem with the residents moderating the forums. The Lindens seem completely unconcerned with the mass of people who are against the program, so its obvious they don't really care what anyone has to say about it. Thank you, Jonas. It takes a great deal of integrity to say these words, and I admire you for your strength. Truly, no harm, no foul. I tend not to take any of this personally. Oddly enough, I feel that I am helping protect open discourse by participating as a Res-Mod. How, you ask? Well, if I can step in and help with an on-going debate, then threads don't get closed, minds don't get closed, we all win. I know that many will strongly disagree with this point; my reply? Please do. Do it loudly. Do it well. Give it your best shot. Yes, I am a volunteer. Sure, I am canon fodder. I could even be a participant in an experiment gone hay-wire--but how the heck are we going to know that until this discussion has run its course and concensus, of some sort, is reached? Now back to your discussion. . .

For the record, it doesn't mater who sends abuse reports. I've the validity of the ARs I've recieved on the content of the thread being ARed and I try to figure out context as well.

That is not anything you could not already do as a non-ResMod. I mean that as no disrespect, Euterpe, but you don't have to be turned into a hall monitor to be able to express your opinion on how to get a thread back on track. You have always been able to say "Hey wait a minute, this is out of control. Can't we stop attacking each other and go back to talking about [whatever we are supposed to be talking about]. The ResMod thing just separates you from the rest of us. Leadership comes from respect, not from simply being annointed to a position. You have the respect without the position in the first place.

Ok let me get this straight its ok to tell another person in these forums to "fuck off" or to "go fuck yourself" but it's not ok to call them "stupid". That is the reality of this moderated and resmoded forum. Like it or not that is the fact of the matter. Proof positive. Moderate the forums correctly or shove them up your stu.... f... a.... Ban me and you better damn well ban everyone before me who has said this s... and gotten cleanly and clearly in a bias way, away with it b... Yeah I can play the game too. How about a little "balance, fair, consistant, not who you know that gets you a free ride" moderation. What a load of crap!

Here's something curious.... How is it that Cristiano Midnight's post (#125) was "last edited by Barbarra Blair"? I thought ResMods did not have to ability to edit someone else's posts?

Glad to see it's getting even worse. Yay ResMods.

I don't care if they're being consistant with it or not. They aren't supposed to be able to do it at all. I want to know if LL actually gave other residents the ability to edit our posts and change or remove our words.

I did not read what parts were edited by the res mod there is nothing to indicate what was edited.

Why am I not surprised there is not even a standard on how to edit if you are going to have it edited. Instead of just replacing the word with commas, it should just say *edited* and the edit note should explain why it was edited. Basic stuff.

Last I checked, ResMods aren't supposed to be able to edit a thread/post at all. The only reasonable explanation is that it was a permission screwup. Also, If she did edit the post, what did she edit?

Also, If she did edit the post, what did she edit? I believe it was that word that begins with the letter that follows "E" in the alphabet. (Whispering ... can't be too careful -- even if that word has been allowed to flourish elsewhere.)

Also, If she did edit the post, what did she edit? She did edit it. She removed an expletive. Though interestingly enough, Jeska's example points out it is fine to say "work was a bitch", but not to call someone a bitch. I used the word as an adjective, not targetted at anyone, but apparently, it is too scary for adults to see that word!

From: Aimee Weber You can sign up here: /203/f3/84873/1.html But be warned, they seem to select a tiny % of their Resident Moderators from the people who apply. From what I can see on this list, Strife Onizuka was the only person who signed up. In other words, if you actually WANT to be a ResMod, don't apply, and you'll have a better chance of being chosen? I recently found the "edit" button as well. There may be an error in the permissions setup, because it's news to me too.

In this forum I've been asked to explain why I IM'd some posters and why I took out some objectionable words (none of which started with a b to my recollection). I received more than 10 reports on the two posts that I edited within a very short time. Everyone knows that the forums must adhere to PG guidelines and should not engage in personal attacks. Right now we are waiting on clarification on whether res mods should edit posts or simply close the thread. Our only other option is to IM the poster or ask for Linden intervention, which can result in disciplinary actions. (Res mods cannot take such action.) I chose to IM the posters and not close the thread, but I didn't want my mail box filling up with these complaints. What the res mods are supposed to do is to communicate with people privately (not reprimand them on the forums). I sent polite requests that relayed the concerns expressed by those reporting posts. Since then this thread has only become more abusive, so obviously I made the wrong choice. Let me know now whether you think that I should have simply closed the thread or asked the Lindens to take action. In the meantime, I want to let you all know that I do not have a beef with anyone here and would not hurt anyone's feelings for the world. I enjoy the free exchange of ideas, but I don't think anyone is enjoying all the ill feelings here.
