He was a thug thriving on the chaos in Iraq that was created by Bush's bungling. He's not an Al-Quaida mastermind or any such bullshit that is going to be thrown our way from now till next week. Am I glad he's dead? Sure am. But it won't change a thing. Watch for the media replacement to show up soon. There will always be some bearded muslim for the US Corporate media to crow about. Certainly useful timing though. What with the atrocity in Haditha and all. The funny part is that you can't say a damn thing to contradict what Cindy Claveau has already said. 1. Al Zarqawi was not "an invented boogeyman". Just accept the fact that there are other REAL terrorist out there besides Bin Laden, and A.Z. was one of them. 2. Do you have any proof that Al-Zarqawi was "just a thung" and not connected to Bin Laden? 3. How can you say he is not a "mastermind" when many documents have shown that he is Bin Ladens #1 man in Iraq and as Cindy already pointed out, he has conducted numerous successful terrorist attacks. 4. U.S. Corporate media? Oh yeah thats right, you get your news from those reliable online sources such as www.democraticunderground.com or some such nonsense. 5. Atrocity in Haditha? IF our soldiers are guilty, I feel sorry for them that the stress of their duty in Iraq pushed them over the edge. I will not condemn them. I don't see much here other than you making a very wild assumption. About the other thing, look. People in the Middle East are taught to hate almost from the moment they are born. It's codified in their school books, for chrissake. It's taught to them along with 2+2=4. It's ingrained in the culture. It will be like that until they decide to change it. There's not much to be gained in trying to win a popularity contest with them. Kendra, I used to be a lot more like you. I used to really think their culture was every bit as good as ours. But it isn't; it's sick. It's sick to teach your kids that the best thing to aspire to is to blow yourself up. If the cycle of animosity between us and them is ever going to end, I submit that they have a lot more changing to do than we do. _____________________
